Fostoria
Community Schools Philosophy for Literacy Fostoria Community Schools are dedicated to literacy development for ALL students. Literacy is defined as the ability to effectively use reading, writing, and communication as tools in our global community. We believe in an equal partnership between home, community and school. Everyone has an obligation to value, interact, model and support literacy development:
·
Students are
prepared, responsible learners who work to develop their literacy skills
so they are able to learn, enjoy, and improve the world around them
through reading, writing, and communicating with others. ·
Teachers,
using a variety of strategies, instruct, coach, model, and build enthusiasm
for literacy development in all students. ·
Parents value
and model literacy at home by reading, writing, and communicating with
their children and sending them to school ready to learn. ·
Administrators,
as instructional leaders, work with teachers, parents, and students
to provide resources, support, and feedback to create an environment
for literacy development. ·
Board of Education
members develop policy to support the development of literacy for
all students, allocate resources, and set a standard for literacy that
is shared publicly in the community. · Community-at-large values and supports the development of literacy for all of its members, and volunteers time and resources to ensure a fully literate community. Together, our literacy goal is to motivate, teach, and develop effective, responsible,
independent thinkers, readers, writers, and communicators – both now
and in the future. |
