The NWOIAA Executive Board met on February 4, 2002, in Findlay. Those in attendance were: Paul Holan, Jim Chambers, Steve Bouillon, R.J. Euckert, Don Cooper, Kevin Calver, Bill Axe, Kent Asher, and Mary Ruth Crandall. President Paul Holan called the meeting to order.

 

Bill Axe made a motion that the January minutes be approved. R.J. Euckert, second. Passed unanimously. Mary Ruth reported that there was a balance of $4343.02 in the treasury.  Bill Axe made a motion that the treasurer’s report be accepted. Kevin Calver, second. Passed unanimously. It was reported that we have one additional member.

 

John Brueggemeier was absent; thus, there was no Northwest District report. Bill Axe reported that at the winter meeting, the Board discussed looking at people from the officials’ ranks to assign officials. A Spending Plan Committee was formed so that there will be a policy developed for the purpose of spending District money. Scholarships were increased. Spring assignments are done; however, there will be site changes in the future. Bill announced that Mac Morrison had five by-pass surgery and is doing fine. Dick Hoover had a leg removed below the knee, but he also is doing fine.

 

Jim Chambers gave the OIAAA report. They will be bringing in John Olson for LTC courses at the state conference, so this will be an additional expense to us. The pole vault is in place for track, and the Cross Country tournaments have been moved up a week. The starting date for volleyball and cross country has been moved up two days. The double base in softball is recommended, but not mandatory yet. No college credit will be given for our LTC courses. If one wants college credit, it must be gotten through Ohio University. OIAAA voted unanimously against girls’ pole vault.

 

Old Business: R.J. Euckert has sent the application to the Stranahan Foundation for shirts for the conference. He asked for 500 shirts at $25.00 per shirt. Steve Bouillon will purchase the note pads and pencils for the spring conference. He will also get the Woody Hayes Impersonator for the State Conference. Urban Meyer has committed to speaking at our spring conference dinner.  The discussion topics for the spring conference were set. 8:45 am Bob the Builder and This Old House (Chip Ebert, Steve Bouillon and Don Cooper) 9:15 am Here’s the Keys, Kid (Kent Smelser  and Jerry Snodgrass) 9:45 am Are you Primed? (NWOAL A.D’s.) 10:15 Open Discussion. Bill Axe will teach the LTC 501 course and Glen Gillespie will teach the LTC 502 course. The Distinguished Service/Award of merit nominations are closed and we will vote at the March meeting. Schedule Star has donated a $400.00 door prize. Bill Axe will get the grand door prize which will be either at Big Bear, Saw Mill Creek or Maumee Bay.

 

New Business: We will sell shirts at the spring conference – golf shirts - $30.00 and hunter green denim shirts - $35.00. Paul Holan announced that we should develop a constitution for our district. Members were given a copy of the COIAAA constitution to look over. Members were given a copy of the Northeast state conference financial breakdown. Paul Holan will send a letter to Rick Mann, the attorney who will speak at our state conference. The cost will be $350.00 At the March meeting we will decide on rooms for the state conference.

 

A get-well card was signed by all to be sent to Larry Jones. We all wish him well.
