PICTURE # 30 MISC1
PELTON STONE QUARRY ON COUNTYLINE ST. Taken in early 1890s. During
the early 1940s a couple of kids, of whom this writer was one,
took an old rowboat and measured the depth in numerous places.
Using a heavy rock and some bindery twine they found it nearly
uniform at 40 feet from the water surface. Judging from the height
of the ladders in the background they were not down to this level
yet when the photo was taken.
Today the PHARM and PIZZA HUT occupy the land at the top of the
far bank in this picture, as well as a number of single family
homes. To your left are the Park Shore apartments. To your right
are more single family homes.
