Fostorians Mother

Doris M. Porter, 82, formerly of 60 N. SR 101 Lot 77, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Toledo, to Charles and Mary (Adams) Finch. On March 9, 1940, in Bowling Green, she married Floyd Thomas Porter. He died Jan. 28, 1997.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas A. Porter of Toledo, Paul F. Porter of Tiffin and David L. Porter of Fostoria; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Katherine) Bobel of Gallipolis and Mrs. James (Helen) Beam of Tiffin; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Two brothers also are deceased.

Mrs. Porter, a graduate of Bowling Green High School, had been employed as a secretary at Union Carbide in Fostoria for 11 years.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, its Trinity Twosomes and Mother's Circle.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will be in Sandridge Cemetery, Bascom.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Trinity United Church of Christ.


Rosenfelt, Jack W.
National Carbide retiree

Jack W. Rosenfelt, 69, 35 St. Francis Ave., died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Beatty) Rosenfelt. He had never married.

Survivors include: a brother Frank Rosenfelt Jr. of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Shirley Ann) Barsness of Simsbury, Conn. and Mrs. Terry (Mary Elizabeth) Smith of Buckeye, Ariz.

A sister, Helen Marie Rosenfelt, died in infancy.

Mr. Rosenfelt, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from the National Electrical Carbon in Fostoria, where he had worked 1956-86.

He spent his life serving Veterans Organizations including member and as an officer of the following:

AmVets, where he served as post sergeant-at-arms, 1999-2000, as post senior vice commander 1996-97 and post junior vice commander 1995-96.

American Legion where he served in the following: county commander 1998-99, county first vice commander 1997-98, post first vice commander 1997-98, county 2nd vice commander 1996-97, post 2nd vice commander 1996-97, post commander 1993-94, post 2nd vice commander 1992-93, county commander 1987-88, county first vice commander 1986-87, county 2nd vice commander 1985-86, post commander 1984-85, post 2nd vice commander 1983-85 and post sergeant-at-arms and honor guards 1954-56.

40/8 Voiture Local 1057 officers-1998-99 local Chef-de-Gare, 1996-98-local Chef-de-Train; 1988-89 Commisar Internant; 1964-69-local Chef-de-Gare and 1990-95-local Cheminots.

Seneca County United Veterans Council officers: 1997 and 99-first vice president.

Department of Ohio Sad Sack Officers, 1999-2000-Hoosegow and 1998-99 Worm.

AmVets 13th District officers: 1996-97 District Provosr Marshal and 1954-99 Volunteer Service Veterans Organizations.

AmVets Post 48 Officers: 1994-95 Post First Vice Commander; 1993-94 Post 2nd Vice Commander and 1992-93 Post Trustee.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde, with Jim Rochester as clergyman.

Following the graveside service, friends may call at the Tiffin AmVets.

Memorials may be made to the United Veterans Council, in care of the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, who are in charge of arrangements.


Ranker, Robert L.
Retired Webster employee

Robert L. Ranker, 79, died at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his home at 7 W. Market St.

He was born March 31, 1921, in Tiffin, to Raymond C. and Florence (Frary) Ranker. His wife, Phyllis M. (Powell) Ranker, whom he married Oct. 17, 1942, in St. Mary Church, Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Ronald L. Ranker of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Patricia A.) Bishop of Bucyrus; two brothers, Raymond Ranker Jr. of Bloomville and Mervin Ranker of rural Tiffin; three sisters, Mrs. James (Mildred) Comer and Mrs. Eugene (Phyllis) Kauffman, both of Tiffin, and Mrs. Wilbur (Jean) Elchert of Fostoria; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a son, Robert L. Ranker Jr., and two sisters.

Mr. Ranker, a veteran of the Civil Conservation Corps and the Navy, retired in 1986 as a welder from Webster Mfg., after 30 years of employment. He also mowed fairways at the Mohawk Golf Course.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 846, Eagles 402 and the Bloomville American Legion.

A funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Keith Stripe as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 12:15 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where Moose Lodge services will be at 7 and a wake service at 8.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.


Pohlman, Steven A.

Word has been received of the death of Steven Allen Pohlman, 53, Flushing, Mich., and formerly of Fostoria. He died Jan. 5, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center, Michigan.

He was born Feb. 5, 1947 in Fostoria to Leroy William and Sandra Lou (Seitz) Pohlman. He married Dorothy A. Schrass July 2, 1971 and they later divorced. He later married Aimee Marie Luea April 29, 1983 in Flushing, Mich. and she survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Ted, Ben, Sam, and Philip; a daughter, Sally; his father and stepmother, North Carolina; a brother, Mark Pohlman, Florida; three sisters, Sherry VanWagoner, Chris Ann Jacobs, and Jill Harner, all of Georgia; a stepbrother, Jeff Light; two stepsisters, Renee and Laura Light; an uncle, Ben J. Pohlman, Fostoria; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; a brother-in-law, Phyleetus VanWagoner; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Pohlman and Mr. Clarence Gilbert
