The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home of Fostoria
has received word of the death of Marilyn Jean Burford,
73, of Chatham, Ontario, Canada, who died Friday, April
21, 2000, at the Cooper Terrace Long Term Care Facility,
Chatham.
She was born Sept. 24, 1924, to Elza and
Inez (Allen) Angles. On Jan. 23, 1960, she married Richard
Burford in Fostoria. He survives in Chatham.
Other survivors include: seven sons, Dennis
Mellroy and Gary Mellroy of Toledo, Butch Mellroy and
Mike Mellroy of state of Delaware, Chuck Mellroy of Port
Charlotte, Fla., Gregory Angles of Fostoria, and George
Burford of Toronto, Ontario; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Allen Angles of Urbana, Milton and Duane
Angles, both of Fostoria, Ron Angles of Cape Coral, Fla.;
and a sister, Donelda Myers of Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas
Burford; a grandson; and two sisters, Audrey and Constance
Angles.
Mrs. Burford was a homemaker and a member
of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Chatham.
Services were April 24 at the church,
with burial in the Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.

A memorial service for Harry William Buis,
64, of 810 McConnell Ave., will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday
at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Harris Schultz
officiating. Burial will be in Van Horn Cemetery, Amanda
Township.
Visitation will follow the memorial service
in the church fellowship area.
Mr. Buis died at 3 p.m. Saturday, April
29, 2000 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay
Campus.
He was born Aug. 11, 1935 in Findlay to
Samuel and Dorothy (Bright) Buis. He married Sally K.
Simpson on Oct. 5, 1958, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, William Alan
of Findlay; a daughter, Mrs. Be (Shari) Brandeberry, Findlay;
two grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Allen of Fostoria.
Mr. Buis retired from the U.S. Postal
Service where he was a letter carrier and had served two
terms as union president.
He was a 1953 graduate of Findlay High
School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in
the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a member of First Presbyterian
Church, the Ohio Genealogical Society, the American Association
of Navy Hospital Corpsmen and the Nuclear Veterans Association.
Mr. Buis was a member of Findlay Lodge
227 F&AM, Chapter 58 RAM, Council 50 R&SM and
Commandery 49 Knights Templar. He was a past "Dad" advisor
for DeMolay.

Earl A. "Jake" Bronson,
68, of SR 587, Fostoria, died at 6:29 p.m. Thursday,
May 11, 2000, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
Mr. Bronson was born May
20, 1931, in Fostoria to Arthur and Hazel (Myers) Bronson.
He married Jean Bowerman on Oct. 2, 1953, in Fostoria,
and she survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are: a son,
Jeffrey A. of Fenton, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Jill)
Brose of Fostoria; four grandchildren; and two sisters,
Betty Myers of Fostoria and Helen Gasakalla of New Riegel.
His parents are deceased.
A U.S. Army veteran, who
served during the Korean Conflict, he retired in 1985
as a press operator for General Electric in Tiffin with
22 years of service. He was a member of the Grace United
Church of Christ in Fostoria and past president of the
Church Consistory.
Funeral services will be
10 a.m. Monday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home
in Fostoria with the Rev. Lucinda Hunter officiating.
Interment will be in Seneca
Memory Gardens.

She was born in Fostoria, July 7, 1957,
to the late Clifford M. and Rosella (Young) Thompson.
Her companion of 21 years, Larry O. White Sr., died
Nov. 24, 1999.
Survivors include: four sons, Chris
A. Thompson, Myron L. Bates, Timothy and Larry O. White
Jr., all of Fostoria; six grandchildren; six brothers,
Bob Steele of Fostoria, Skip Steele and Mark Thompson,
both of Tiffin, Clifford Thompson and Mike and Bill
Myers, all of Fostoria; and three sisters, Ruby Lawrence
of Tiffin and Dee Dee Chafin and Maeve Thompson, both
of Brooksville, Fla.
Mrs. Bates was a homemaker.

Walter R. "Jack" Baker, 89, of Broadway
Street, Fostoria, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, May 29, 2000.,
in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born in Fremont, March 10, 1911,
to Walter and Katherine (Shumaker) Baker. On June 21,
1948, in Pineville, Ky., he married Elsie Hubbard, who
survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: four sons, Roy
and Carl Baker, both of Fostoria, Dale Baker of Columbus
and Robert Baker of Clyde; five daughters, Nancy Baker
of California, Ruby Baker of Toledo and Lois, Ruth and
Francis Baker, all of Clyde; a sister, Eva Baker-Shivley
of Toledo; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Three sons, William, James and Thomas
Baker, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Baker, a World War II U.S. Army veteran,
retired in 1960 as a Sandusky County roadworker.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday
in Knollcrest Cemetery, near Arcadia, with the Rev. Donald
Goodwin officiating.

Fostoria Foundry retiree
Lloyd W. Agnew, 89, of Union Street, Fostoria,
died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 2000, in St. Catherine's
Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born in Seneca County, Feb. 17,
1911, to Samuel and Lulu (Kinsey) Agnew. His wife, Helen
M. (Myers) Agnew, whom he married May 22, 1937, in West
Independence, survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert
Agnew of Columbus; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara Jane)
Heimberger of Willowick; and four grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a brother,
Dr. J. Wilbur Agnew; and two sisters, Marjorie and Helen
G. Agnew.
Mr. Agnew, a 1928 graduate of Jackson
Liberty High School, retired in 1973 as a foreman, from
the former Fostoria Foundry, after 44 years of service.
A former member of the Arcadia Lions Club,
he was a member of High Street United Methodist Church,
Fostoria and the AARP.
The Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite will be the
officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the Harrold-Floriana

Raymond F. Bakies, 77, of 5044 S. TR 25,
Alvada, died at 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2000, in
the Autumnwood Care Center.
He was born in Carey, Nov. 2, 1922, to
Grover and Rosa A. (Kin) Bakies. On June 18, 1949, in
St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, he married Rosemary
Schmitz. She died Sept. 22, 1984.
Surviving are: four sons, Raymond J. Bakies
of Tiffin, Ronald G. Bakies of Harrogate, Tenn, Roger
J. and Rodney J. Bakies, both of Alvada; three daughters,
Mrs. Walter (Rebecca A.) Bakies-Davis of Harrisburg, N.C.,
Mrs. Andy (Rose Ann) Bakies-Turbeville of Charlotte, N.C.
and Mrs. Christopher (Roberta J.) Bakies-Stevens of Tallahassee,
Fla.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren;
four brothers, John Bakies of Carey, Grover E. Bakies
of Gretna, La., Vincent Bakies of Alexandria, La. and
James Bakies of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three sisters, Mrs.
Dolores Hoerig of Toledo, Mrs. Richard (Rosemary) Ward

Anthony Bakies, are deceased.
Mr. Bakies, a 1941 graduate of Carey High
School, retired in 1978 as a sheet metal worker from the
former Fostoria Foundry.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was
a member of St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Alvada;
New Riegel American Legion Post 354, of which he was a
life member; the Knights of Columbus and Disabled American
Veterans Chapter 34, Tiffin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at
10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church,
with the Rev. Leonard Kitsler officiating. Interment will
be in the parish cemetery, where there will be military
graveside rites.

died at 11:13 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2000, in the Emergency
Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born June 13, 1923, in Tiffin,
to Arthur Brownell and Mabel (Shauan) Brownell Stanton.
On Nov. 10, 1959, in Tiffin, he married Helen Holman,
who survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Robin
L. Brownell of Tiffin; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Grace)
Johnson, also of Tiffin.
A sister, Mrs. Madeline Johnson, also
is deceased.
Mr. Brownell, a Junior Home Kid, worked
as a straightener for the former Tiffin Glass and also
as a security guard at Fostoria Wire and Hayes Albion.
He was lifetime member of Disabled American
Veterans 34 and a member of the Methodist Faith..
A disabled veteran, he served in the U.S.
Army during World War II.
The Rev. Melanie Haack will be the officiant
at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery, where
military graveside services will be conducted by the United
Veterans Council.

Hildred C. Funk Adams, 93, of Independence
House, Fostoria, formerly of Bascom, died at 4:32 p.m.,
Wednesday, June 14, 2000. She was born April 10, 1907
to Perry and Minnie (DeWald) Funk. On Aug. 19, 1943 she
married J. Earl Adams, he died march 26, 1993.
Survivors include: five nieces, Janet
Funk Dutt of Tiffin, Judy Funk Davis of Dover, Ma., Susan
Funk Williams of Oriental, N.C., Nancy Funk Mitchell of
N. Olmstead, and Ann Funk Boncimino; and 12 great nieces
and nephews.
Preceded in death were: five brothers
and five sisters, Wayne D., Wenner, and twin brothers
Allon N. and Dr. John Funk, M.D. and her twin H. Squire
Funk., Hester Dysart, Hazel Rowe, third set of twins,
Mary Hope Funk and James Walter Funk died in infancy,
and Helen Funk.
Mrs. Adams is a graduate of Columbian
High School Class of 1925, and graduated Heidelberg College
Class of 1930, she spent two years in Germany and two
years in Japan, she taught school at the Junior Home and
Hopewell-Loudon, she retired. A member of Bascom Union
United Church of Christ, former Bascom Garden Club Member
and she was active in all church organizations.
The Pastor James Michaels will officiate
the 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2000 funeral service
at the Bascom Union United Church of Christ. Burial will
be at Sand Ridge Cemetery.

Jon C. Brough, 38, died Thursday, June
15, 2000, at his home in Tolland, Conn.
He was born Aug. 8, 1961, in Fostoria,
to Dr. Gerald and Jo Ann (Simpson:) Brough, who survive
in Fostoria. His partner, Evelyn Eisenhardt, survives
in Tolland.
Survivors also include: two brothers,
Jeffrey D. Brough of Waterville and Jay F. Brough of Fostoria;
and a sister, Jessie Jo Segretti of Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Brough, a 1979 graduate of Fostoria
High School, attended the University of Toledo and graduated
in 1983 from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor
of science degree in communications. He then received
his certificate of teaching in 1999 from Central Connecticut
University.
He was employed as a high school technology
education teacher in Plainville, Conn.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday in the Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, with the
Rev. Karl Kessler officiating.

Barbara A. Biddle, 65, of West Center
Street, Fostoria, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20,
2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born June 1, 1935, in Sycamore,
to the late Claude and Florence (Roberts;) Wagner. She
first married Gerald Corey, and they were divorced. She
later married Gary Biddle, and they also were divorced.
Survivors include: two sons, Gregg G.
Biddle of Fostoria and Douglas Corey of Lakewood; a brother,
Roger Hottenstein of Fostoria; and three grandchildren.
A homemaker, Mrs. Biddle was a 1953 graduate
of Fostoria High School. She was a member of High Street
United Methodist Church, Fostoria.

Anna R. Bailey, 76, of SR 101, Clyde,
died Monday, June 26, 2000, in the Arbors of Clyde.
She was born March 20, 1924, in Tiffin,
to Courtney and Inez (Sours) Egbert. Her husband, William
H. Bailey Sr., whom she married in 1946, died in 1952.
She married Neal Fowler in 1956. He died in 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Jean
Davenport of Clyde; two sons, William H. Bailey Jr. of
Bloomville and Thomas Bailey of Clyde; 11 grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters,
Alvin Egbert of Clyde, Pauline Schultz of Republic, Mardell
Woolston of New Jersey, Edith Rhoads of Bloomville, Dale
Egbert of Fostoria and Lois Jean Egbert of Tiffin.
Two sons, Don and Ted Egbert, also are
deceased.
Mrs. Bailey, a 1942 graduate of Republic
High School, had been employed as a cook for 18 years
at St. Francis Home, Green Springs, and then as a cook
for the Green Springs Methodist Green Thumb Program.
She was a member of Green Springs United
Methodist Church, Green Springs VFW Auxiliary, of which
she was a life member; Bellevue Ladies of the Moose, Rebecca
Lodge Order of Eastern Star, Republic; and a former member
of Clyde Eagles Auxiliary.
She also volunteered at St. Francis for
many years.
The Rev. James Scott will be the officiant
at the 2 p.m. Thursday service in the Mitchell-Auxter
Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Egbert Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Fostoria,
to the late Pink and Jessie Mae (Parkman) Evers. Her husband,
James C. Browning, whom she married Oct. 21, 1955, in
Fostoria, survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: a son, Tracey
C. Browning of Fostoria; a daughter, Roxanne S. Browning,
also of Fostoria; a stepdaugher, Brenda G. Tucker of Fostoria;
three sisters, Nannie M. Adams of Columbus, Fern Martin
and Addie L. North, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren,
two step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death were a son,
Watson J. Browning; two brothers, Robert and Paul Evers;
and a stepsister, Rosalie Woodley.
Mrs. Browning, a homemaker, had worked
at Fostoria Community Hospital in the 1950s.
A 1953 graduate of Fostoria High School,
she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fostoria.

Thomas W. Basinger, 45, died at 8:45
p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home on West Tiffin
Street, Fostoria.
He was born Nov. 5, 1954, in Fostoria,
to L. Wayne and Clara (Iler) Basinger. His father survives
in Fostoria. His wife, Dianne K. (Whitta) Basinger,
whom he married Sept. 24, 1976, in Fostoria, also survives
in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two sons, Christopher
T. and Robert W. Basinger, both of Fostoria; a daughter,
Heather A. Basinger of Fostoria; two brothers, John
E. and Scott E. Basinger, both of Fostoria; and a sister,
Bonnie L. Basinger, also of Fostoria.
His mother is deceased.
Mr. Basinger had worked at Allied Automotive
Corp. (now Honeywell Corp.) for 13 years and then was
a sprint car racer for eight years. For the past 12
years, he was self-employed at Basinger Auto Specialties
in Fostoria.
A 1973 graduate of Fostoria High School,
he was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

10:34 p.m. July 20 2000 at Ohio State University Center,
Columbus.
He was born June 30,
1916 in Fostoria to Elza and Inez (Allen) Angles. He married
Devota Wise 62 years ago and she servives.
Also surviving are
two sons; Carl A. Angles, Ruckersville, Va. and Gordon
L. Angles, Kennesaw Ga.; four daughters: Lana L. Seeberg,
Mrs Bill (Patricia A.) Cromwell, and Mrs. Tony (Charlotte
D.) Markin, all of Urbanna, and Judith E. (Rodney) Brooks,
Joplin, Mo.; four brothers, Duane, Milton and Greg Angles,
all of Fostoria and Ronald (Ruth) Angles, Cape Coral,
Fla.; one sister Donelda Myers, Fostoria, 12 grandchildren
and seven great-grand-children.
He was proceed in death
by thre sisters and two grandsons.
Mr. Angles retired
from th ulrbanna Daily Citizen and Armstrong & Allen
Furniture Store. He was a member of the Rotary Club
of Urbana, and the Presbyterian Church where he was a
choir member for over 40 years. A Professional pianist, he
was also a member of the Springfield Musicians Local.
Services will be 10
a.m. Tuesday in the Presbyterian Church 116 W. Court St.,
Urbana, the Rev. Kathy Horne officiating. Burial
will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery.

Raymond C. Aldrich, 84, of CR 21, Risingsun,
died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.
He was born Nov. 9, 1915, in Rollersville,
to Arla and Anna (Schoendorff) Aldrich. His first wife,
Fern (Limke) Aldrich, whom he married Oct. 10, 1936, died
Jan. 21, 1968. He later married Wilda Jeane Myers on July
28, 1977, in McComb. She survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Thomas
Aldrich of Byron, Ga. and Gerald Aldrich of Risingsun;
two daughters, Mrs. Paul R. (Mary Ann) Evans and Mrs.
Douglas L.(Jane) Smith, both of Fostoria; a step-daughter,
Bonnie Zimmermen of Virginia; two step-sons, Richard Myers
of Rockville, Md. and Daniel Myers of Cheney, Wash.; a
sister, Annabelle O'Neill of Phoenix, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren
and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Aldrich, a lifetime farmer, also worked
as a welder for the J.E. Baker Lime Plant in Millersville

Fostoria; and William K. Jr., Tecumseh, Mich.; one brother,
Harry R. Wagner, Port Clinton; one sister, Mrs. Larry
(Betty Anne) Noward, Waterville; seven grand children,
and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother
Wallace Wagner; and two sisters, Gladys and Helena.
Mrs. Adams graduated from high school
in Bowling Green and later moved to Montgomery Township
with her husband where they operated a dairy farm.
She was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m.

Fostorian's Father
Paul I. Behm, 77, of 15 N. Main St., Attica, died Friday
evening, Aug. 4, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical
Center, Toledo.
He was born July 17, 1923, in Bloomville,
to Irvin A. and Florene (Adams) Behm.. On June 8, 1975,
he married Doris Bollinger, who survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Marshall
Behm of Silverdale, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Steve
(Barbara) Schaaf of Attica, Mrs. Kenneth (Victoria)
Walliser of Fostoria and Mrs. David (Valerie) Gordon
of Stilwell, Kan.; a step-son, Rockne Martin of Attica;
four step-daughters, Patricia Kean, Lydia Martin, and
Shirley Jaynes, all of Attica and Susan Robbins of Lebanon,
Ky.; seven grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and
nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Don E. Behm
of Republic; and a sister, Dr. Raymond (Zoe Ann) Brown
of Lyndhust.
He also was preceded in death by a brother,
Dr. Gordon Behm.
Mr. Behm, who lived in the Bloomville
area until moving to Attica in 1972, graduated in 1941
from Bloomville High School and attended Bowling Green
State Univeristy and Heidelberg College.
A World War II in the U.S. Army Air
Force, ATC veteran, he was the owner and operator of
the Attica Cafe for 22 years 1970-1992, and also farmed.
He served as the former distribution
manager for Field Enterprises Inc., which distributed
the World Book Encyclopedia; worked as a courier for
Sutton Bank and assisted Pancoast Funeral Home and Furniture
Store in Republic.
Mr. Behm was a member of Attica United
Methodist Church, where he was active with the choir;
served on the Seneca County Fair Board, referreed local
high school basketball and football and was a life member
of the Bloomville American Legion.
He also was a member of Willard VFW,
Eden Lodge 310 Free and Accepted Masons, Accent Accepted
Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Temple Shrine,
Toledo; and Luella Chapter Order Eastern Star. He was
a former member of Willard Eagles and Elks.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday
in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W.
Tiffin St., Attica, with the Rev. Thomas Kalb officiating.
Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Township Cemetery,
Attica.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home, where Masonic services
will be at 6:45 p.m.

Leona A. Boyd, 84, of Walnut Street, Fostoria,
died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at her residence.
She was born June 8, 1916, in Tiffin to John and Bertha
(Warnement) Welter. On June 3, 1948, she married Hugh
"Buck" Boyd at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tiffin. He
died July 25, 1996.
Surviving are a son, Chuck Boyd of Quincy,
Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Sue Reiter, Mrs. Nancy Whipple,
Mrs. Martha Mireles and Mrs. Peggy Ward, all of Fostoria;
a brother, Carl "Jake" Welter of Tiffin; a sister, Sister
Margaret Welter, OSU, Toledo; and nine grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were six brothers,
Pius, Leon, Reginald, Albert, Raymond and John "Jack"
Welter; and a sister, Mary Homan.
Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker and worked at
the SS Kresge Store in Tiffin. Her memberships included:
St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its Rosary-Altar Society,
Fostoria; Honorary member of the Circle of Mercy; Daughters
of Isabella and its card flight; Fostoria Woman's Club;
Fostoria Lineage Society; Child Conservation League and
Fostoria Historical Society. She was a 1934 graduate of
Calvert High School; she was an avid card player and genealogist.
The Rev. Daniel Ring will officiate the
Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
19, 2000, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will
be at Kansas Cemetery, Kansas.
Visitation hours are 2-5 and 7-9 tonight
at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. A Christian wake
service will be at 8:30 tonight at the funeral home, and
a rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Bernita M. "Bea" Brickner, 76, died at
9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at her home at 723 Buckley
St., Fostoria.
She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Tiffin,
to Raymond and Remah (Phelps;) Gase.On April 13, 1944,
in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married Paul C. Brickner,
who preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1971.
Survivors include: a son, James P. Brickner
of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. David (Carol) Wagner of
Tiffin; a sister, Mary Hoepf of Republic; three grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers,
Robert and Harold Gase; and a sister, Florence Fruth.
Mrs. Brickner, a homemaker, also retired
as a clerk from St. Vincent DePaul Store in Fostoria.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic
Church, Fostoria, where she served as a greeter; the Just
For Friends Singles Group, which she helped form; St.
Patrick's Sewing Group at the Good Shepherd Home; Women
of the Moose and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, all of Fostoria.
She also served as a volunteer at the Sharing Kitchen,
also of Fostoria.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday
in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will
be recited at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Andrew
Parish Cemetery, Liberty Township.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday
in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary
will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Cleophas Otto Brickner, 82, of 6018 W.
CR 38, Fostoria, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24,
2000, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Seneca County
to Otto S. and Mary (Scherger) Brickner. He married Rita
M. Breidenbach Nov. 22, 1945, in St. Joseph Catholic Church,
Tiffin. She survives.
Also surviving are a son Ronald O. of
Fostoria; three daughters Darlene Hohman of New Riegel,
Mrs. Brett (Lois) Willoughby and Mrs. Paul (Donna) Gosche,
both of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
and a sister Mrs. Carl (Bernadine) Depinet of Bascom.
Two brothers, Arthur and Urban, are deceased.
Mr. Brickner was a farmer and a National
Machinery Quarter Century retiree; a member of the St.
Andrew Catholic Church, Bascom, and of the Quarter Century
Club at National Machinery.

followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 in the St. Andrew
Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating.

She was born May 21, 1937, to Charles
and Emma Dee (Greene) Elliott. They are deceased. On March
31, 1956, she married Frank M. Adams. He survives.

D. Adams of West Chester, Pa., and Gerald W. Adams of
Fostoria; two daughters, Diane K. Woodland of Findlay
and Mrs. Lori A. Sebastiano of Cadillac, Mich.; a sister,

D. Elliott of Bessimer, Ala.; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a brother,
Earl Elliott, and a sister, Catherine Fancher.
Mrs. Adams was a 1956 graduate of Bessemer
High School and a homemaker.

Lota Faye Burns, 70, of 210 Jeanette Dr.,
Fostoria, died at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in
the home of her daughter, Sandra Herman of Fostoria.
Mrs. Burns was born May 24, 1930, in Van
Zant County, Texas, to Harvey and Lota (Fails) Teel. She
married Floyd W. Burns Oct. 20, 1951, in Fostoria. He
died in February 1990.
Survivors include: two sons, Larry Burns
of Fostoria and Robert T. Burns of New Riegel; two daughters,
Mrs. Duane (Dina) Schreiner and Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Herman
Jr., both of Fostoria; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Helen Wybensinger of Bellevue.
A sister, Ida Bell Crisler, also preceded
her in death.
She was a homemaker, had worked at the former
Buckeye Mart, Fostoria, and Lord's Dress Shop; was a member
of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and past member and president
of the Columbianas of K of C, Fostoria.

in the St. Wendelin Church followed by the Mass of Christian
burial at 10:30 a.m. and burial in St. Wendelin Parish
Cemetery.

15, 2000.
Mr. Alge was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Fostoria,
to Ray D. and Bernice M. (Karns) Alge who are both deceased.
He married Joyce A. Kromer in Carey at the Basilica of
Our Lady of Consolation on May 2, 1970, and she survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Jason J. of
Columbus; two daughters, Jill R. of Moultrie, Ga. and
Jennifer A. at home; two brothers, Mike of Fostoria and
Tim of Covington; three sisters, Gloria Tusing of Jacksonville,
Fla., Mary Alge of Fostoria and Betty Alge of Sidney.
Preceding him in death were: an infant
son, Jamie; a brother, Richard R.; and a sister, Theresa
Alge.
Graduating in 1966 from Fostoria High
School, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam War; worked
for the past 32 years for General Dynamics in Fostoria
and Lima as an inspector/assembler UAW Local 2075 Lima;
volunteered as a soccer coach for the Lima YMCA and Lima
Bath School youth programs; and of the Methodist faith.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday
in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the
Rev. Ernest Waechter OPM Conv. officiating. Military graveside
rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations
at St. Mary's Cemetery in Carey.

Krohn on Oct. 27, 1975; they divorced in 1990 and she
survives in Jerry City. He then married LaVenda J. Sterling
on May 9, 1995, and she survives.

Fremont; Deanna J. Bauman, Jerry City; four step-daughters,

they were divorced. He then married Beverly Kraylek,
April 10, 1980, and she died Nov. 10, 1990. He then
married Delilah M. Lowery, Dec. 11, 1991, in Fostoria
and they were divorced. On March 20, 1996, in Myrtle
Beach, S.C., he married Marilyn M. Moore, and they were
divorced.
Survivors include: stepfather, Nick
J. Rarey of Findlay; two sons, Brian J. and Jack A.
Burkett, both of Findlay; a step-son, Ryan Bacon of
Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Jason (Lisa) Lanning of
McComb and Lori Burkett of Findlay; three grandchildren;
two brothers, Larry A. Burkett of Fostoria and Mark
Rarey of Findlay; and two sisters, Mrs. Greg (Janet)

High School, a U.S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam era
and had been employed at Whirlpool Corporation in Findlay

Club and Amvets, all in Fostoria; an avid bowler and
was formerly the Fostoria City Association Bowling League
secretary.

Church, Fostoria, and he died May 31, 1984.

Amherst; a daughter, Jeannette Miller, Joliet, Ill.;
12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren;
a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Anthony "Bud" Brant
of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and a sister, Evelyn Stuber,
Arcadia.
She was preceded in death by a daughter,
Margaret "Peg" Reid; and a grandchild.

1934, he died Sept. 27, 1966.

M. LaFollette of McCormick, S.C., and Darlene M. Black

16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great

She was preceded in death by: a daughter,
Roseanne B. Ballreich; a sister, Marcella Colby; three

Mrs. Ballreich was a waitress at the
Island House in Port Clinton for many years and also
worked at Travelers Restaurant, Port Clinton. She retired
in 1983 from H.B. Magruder Hospital, where she worked
in dietary services. She was a member of Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, Women of the
Moose, Port Clinton Lodge, Port Clinton Senior Citizens,
Ohio Chapter of The United Grandmothers chapter of the
United States of America, Port Clinton Mother of Twins,
and AARP.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church, Port Clinton. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, where he had been
a resident for five months.
He was born April 28, 1913, in Seneca
County to Willard Stratton and Beulah Mae (Dunlap) Burns.
On Oct. 15, 1938, in the Church of Christ in Tiffin,
he married Evelyn Marie Creeger, who died Aug. 16, 1999.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs.
William (Beverly Ann) McCallister of Spencer; three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a brother,
Joseph Burns of Marion.
Also deceased are a brother, Eldon R.
Burns; and two sisters, Llavon B. Lupton and Dolly (Burns)
Zimmerman.
Mr. Burns, who was educated in Tiffin
and Michigan, retired from Whirlpool Corp.
He was a member of the First Christian
Church, Tiffin Lodge Free and Accepted Masons 77, Order
Eastern Star Tiffin Chapter 189, Tiffin Lodge Service
77 Free and Accepted Masons and Ancent Accepted Scottish
Rite, Valley of Toledo.
The Rev. David Mills will be the officiant
at the noon Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral
Home. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today
and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral
home.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice
and the Good Shepherd Home.

Virginia N. Burks, 69, formerly of South
Sandusky Street, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19,
2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center, where she had been
a resident since Feb. 1, 1998.
She was born June 12, 1931, in Miami,
Ariz., to the late King and Nellie (Griggs) Turpin.
Her step-mother, Bertha Green, survives. On Oct. 1,
1948, in Pikesville, Ky., she married Curtis Burks,
who also survives.
Other survivors include: six sons, Allen
Burks of Harriman, Tenn., Jerry Burks of Pemberville,
Jack Burks of Tiffin, Joe Burks of Bloomville, Rick
Burks of Sandusky and Randy Burks of Fostoria; 19 grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren; six half-brothers, Jim
Turpin of Princeton, W.Va., Robert Turpin of Burgoon,
Melvin and Doug Turpin, both of Fostoria, Wayne Turpin
of Kansas, Ohio and Roger Turpin of Fremont; a sister,
Pauline Davis of Virginia; and five half-sisters, Kathryn
Graham of Kansas, Alice Hatfield of Findlay, Teresa
Halcomb of Gibsonburg, Linda Halcomb of Fremont and
Sandra Turpin of Alabama.
A brother, Jack Turpin, also is deceased.
Mrs. Burks, a homemaker, was a member
of the Pentecostal Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in
the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas
Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in Seneca Memory
Gardens.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today
and one hour before the service Friday at the funeral
home.
