Donald L. Alley
Retired carpenter

Donald L. Alley, 73, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at his home at 3 Fairview Ave.

He was born in Fostoria Aug. 18, 1925, to John and Iva (Clark) Alley. On Sept. 1, 1951, in Angola, Ind., he married Norma J. Sholl. She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Bonnie) Raitz and Mrs. Roger (Shari) Hill, both of Tiffin; two brothers, Ralph and Raymond Alley, both of Fostoria; three sisters, Florence George of Colorado, Helen Burns of Toledo and Mrs. Edward (Joyce) Agerter of Tiffin; eight grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were seven brothers, Richard, John, James, Clark, Robert, Carl and William; and three sisters, Cory Stocker, Patricia Frontz and Louise Morhman.

Mr. Alley, a member of the Prostestant faith, had been employed with ITT as a carpenter for 32 years.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he also was a member of Tiffin VFW Post 2858.

Services in Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

 

 

Raymond ''Pud'' Alley
Seneca Wire retiree

Raymond ''Pud'' Alley, 82, of Watson Avenue, Fostoria, died at 8:41 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Fostoria, Feb. 9, 1916, to John and Iva (Clark) Alley. His wife, Margaret E. (Crawford) Alley, whom he married April 12, 1941, in Defiance, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a brother, Ralph Alley of Fostoria; three sisters, Joyce Agerter of Tiffin, Helen Burns of Toledo and Florence George of Montrose, Colo.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, James, Don, Clark and Robert Alley; and two sisters, Clorinda Stocker and Louise Moehrman.

A veteran of the U.S. Cost Guard, having served during World War II, Mr. Alley retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1981 from Seneca Wire in Fostoria after 45 years of service.

He was a member of Fostoria Elks Lodge 935 and the Fostoria Country Club.

Graveside services in Graham Cemetery, near Wayne, will be 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Edmond Zickefoose officiating.

Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 7-9 p.m. today.

Franklin Ames

Former Fostoria resident

Franklin Ames, 83, formerly of Lynn Street, Fostoria, died July 28, 1998, in St. Catherine's of Findlay.

He was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Vickery, Ohio, to the late David and Mary (Carson) Ames. He married and later divorced Venus (Matthews) Ames-Meade, who survives in Port Clinton.

Mr. Ames was a former electrician at Standard, Port Clinton.

A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Parkhurst Cemetery, Sandusky County.

 

 

Edith E. Arend
Former Fostoria resident

Edith E. Arend, 89, of Lorain, formerly of Fostoria, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in the Hospice Residential Center, Lorain.

She was born Jan. 8, 1909, in West Independence, to John W. and Theresa (Yost) Emerine. On Oct. 8, 1938, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, she married Clifford D. Arend. He died May 11, 1991.

Surviving are three daughters, Rosemary Butler and Joanne Fillhart, both of Fostoria, and Janet Caskey of Tiffin; a son, James C. Arend of Lorain; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold Emerine of Fostoria.

A graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Mrs. Arend had been employed at Autolite for five years, worked as a cook at the Fostoria Country Club and Good Shepherd Home and also worked at the Kroger Store, all of Fostoria.

She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its Rosary Altar Society and the Fostoria Eagles Auxiliary Golden Eagle 430, where she was a life member.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rosary recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. and Eagles Auxiliary Memorial services will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church.

 

 

Doris Yvonne (Fields) Ashley
Retired Ashley's Anchor owner

Doris Yvonne (Fields) Ashley, 71, of 725 Buckley St., Fostoria, died at 10:22 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born in Jellico, Tenn., Dec. 11, 1926, to James and Margaret (Miller) Fields. She first married Joseph C. Siler, Dec. 24, 1945, in Middlesboro, Ky., and they were divorced. He survives in Defiance. Her second husband, Hobart J. Ashley, whom she married Oct. 23, 1949, in Neon, Ky. survives in Holland, Oh. They also were divorced.

Survivors also include: a son, John Ashley of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Pamela) Copeland of Defiance, Mrs. Rocky (Candi) Baker and Mrs. Randy (Tanya) Ferguson, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild; four brothers, Harry Fields of Hamilton, Virgil and Patrick Fields, both of Monroe, Mich. and Francis Fields of Sandusky; and two sisters, Mrs. Dena Hill ot Tucson, Ariz. and Mrs. Barbara Shurtz of Holland.

Mrs. Ashley owned Ashley's Anchor in Fostoria, retiring in 1993.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Minton officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Dillon Road Baptist Church.

 

 

Helen Augsburger
Bendix Autolite retiree

Helen Augsburger, 74, of South Popular Street, Fostoria, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born in Putnam County, Feb. 25, 1924, to Homer and Eva (Ball) Scott. Her husband, Lewis H. Augsburger Sr., whom she married Nov. 30, 1940, in Fostoria, preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1997.

Surviving are two sons, Lewis Jr. and Kenneth Augsburger, both of Fostoria; five daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Watkins, Mrs. David (Peggy) Bohanan and Mrs. Mike (Daisy) Lewis, all of Fostoria, Mrs. Clinton (Mary) Wheeler of Tiffin and Mrs. Fred (Nancy) Wilson of Findlay; four brothers, Ray, Pete, Jim and Frank Scott, all of Fostoria; a sister, Betty Sheller of Fostoria; 23 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Rozella Ball and Agnes Haynes; and two brothers, John and Galen Scott.

Mrs. Augsburger retired in 1984 as a line operator from Bendix Autolite (now Allied Signal), Fostoria.

Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor Bob Chew officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

John W. Baker
National Carbon fireman

John W. Baker, 96, of 200 E. North St., Fostoria, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Arcadia, March 25, 1902, to Lemuel and Metta (Dorsey) Baker. On Sept. 22, 1923, in Findlay, he married Olive G. Swihart. She died Aug. 24, 1997.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Dona) Smith of Fremont; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a son, Dwight Baker; a brother, Harry Baker; and two sisters, Lois Skidmore and Frances Kazmaier.

Mr. Baker, who served in the Navy Reserves, worked as a fireman at the National Carbon (now National Electrical Carbon) in Fostoria for 30 years, retiring in 1963.

He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, the Sportsman Club and Fostoria Senior Citizens.

The Rev. Jeffrey Waite will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Gordon E. Ball
Retired Chrysler millwright

Former 46 Fairfield Ave. resident, Gordon E. Ball, 71, of 5271 W. Liberty TR 156, Kansas, was killed in a traffic accident in Huron County, US 224 west of Willard, at 7:59 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998.

He was born in West Lodi, July 27, 1927, to John Bernard and Grace Ellen (Moyer) Ball. On April 7, 1950, in St. John's United Church of Christ, Tiffin, he married Anna L. Kirchner. She preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1985.

Survivors include: a son, Alan E. Ball of Kansas, with whom he had resided for the past five years; two grandchildren; Alan E. Ball Jr. and Charlotte Dunfee; a brother, William Ball of Bucyrus; and two sisters, Evelyn Reitz of Bucyrus and Gladys Lennhoff of Fremont.

Also preceding him in death were his son, Robert E. Ball, daughter-in-law and her children, who was killed in the same traffic accident; six brothers, Ardra ''Art,'' John, Howard, James, Clifford and Leonard Ball; and three sisters, Mildred Gruhn, Myrtle Ball and Etta Williams.

Mr. Ball, a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, retired as a millwright from the Chrysler Plant in Fostoria. He later worked as a security guard at Premier Services Corp in Bettsville.

A graduate of Townsend High School, Vickery, he was a member of the Tiffin American Legion, where he had served as commander for several years and also was very active as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years.

Pastor Herbert T. Hill will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service on Tuesday.

Beulah Molter Bame
Fostoria homemaker

Beulah (Calhoun) Molter Bame, 89, of 11203 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born in Bettsville, Nov. 8, 1908, to Perlee and Lillian (Holzwarth) Calhoun. Her first husband, Paul E. Molter, is deceased. Her second husband, Ralph D. Bame, whom she married July 3, 1952, in Tiffin, preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1996.

Survivors include: a daughter, Judy M. Molter of Fostoria; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Ronald Molter; three daughters, LaDonna Colwell, Paula Walton and Betty Molter; and four brothers, Glen, Harold, Dick and Don Calhoun.

Mrs. Bame, an avid piano player, played the organ and piano for silent movies in the 1920s at the Old Majestic Theatre in Fostoria. She was a homemaker.

The Rev. Paul Myers will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel. Interment will follow in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Robert E. Baxter
A T & T System technician

Former Risingsun resident, Robert E. Baxter, 70, of 1455 Pounds Road, Lilburn, Ga., died in the Eastside Medical Center, Snellville, Ga., at 10:57 a.m. Monday, May 25, 1998.

He was born in Bucyrus, Nov. 17, 1927, to Albert H. and Mary L. (Graham) Baxter. His wife, Rosemary (Grimes) Baxter, whom he married June 16, 1956, in Toledo, survives in Lilburn.

Other survivors include: six sons, Brian W. Baxter of O'Fallon, Mo., Patrick A., Christopher P. and Robert C. Baxter, all of Risingsun, Jeffrey R. Baxter of Fostoria and Jay H. Baxter of Arlington; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Julie) Lantz, Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Dyer and Cynthia Baxter, all of Fostoria; a brother, Melvin G. Baxter of Brownsville, Pa.; a sister, Helen Tretter of Bowling Green; and 17 grandchildren.

An Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Baxter retired in 1988 as a system technician, after 30 years of employment with A T & T.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Paul Myers officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria..

Visitation at the funeral home is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

John B. Barbour
Fostoria businessman

John B. Barbour, 55, of W. Jackson Street, Fostoria, died at 8:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Medical College of Ohio. He was born March 30, 1943, in Fostoria to Dale and Alma (Frankart) Barbour, who survive. On Feb. 17, 1973, in Wayne, he married Ann M. Scott. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include a brother, Gary Barbour, and a sister, Mrs. Marshal (Jane) Burns, both of Fostoria.

Mr. Barbour was a 1961 graduate of St. Wendelin High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He had been the owner and operator of the ''Whippy Dip'' ice cream store in Fostoria.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Maxine D. Bennett
Fostoria Industries retiree

Maxine D. Bennett, 84, of Fox Run Manor, Findlay, formerly of West Shore Drive, Findlay, died at 6:53 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

She was born in Putnam County near Leipsic, Dec. 26, 1913, to Edward and Susie (Rader) Walsh. On July 15, 1942, in Cleveland, she married Ralph A. Bennett. He died Sept. 13, 1965.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Bennett of Eustis, Fla.; and two brothers, Wally Walsh of Findlay and Henry Walsh of Leipsic.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Maurice, Robert and Ralph Walsh; and a grandson, Jamie Bennett.

Mrs. Bennett, a 1931 graduate of Leipsic High School, retired in 1978 from Fostoria Industries, where she had been employed for more than 20 years.

Memorial services are at 1:30 p.m. today in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home today.

Orville F. Bentz
Brother of Tiffin woman

Orville F. Bentz of 691 Angela Drive, Fostoria, Ohio, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Seneca County to the late Ferdinand and Mary (Hoffbauer) Bentz, and he married Evelyn Mae Kinney Sept. 25, 1937, in Angola, Ind.

He is survived by: his wife Evelyn of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Garry (Carol) Phelps of Fostoria; a granddaughter, Staci Phelps of Fostoria; and a sister, Anna Mae Randall of Tiffin.

A brother, Carl Bentz, preceded him in death.

Mr. Bentz worked for 28 years as a clerk at Ford Autolite, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Fostoria Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, and burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the Eagles will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to The Living Tree at Fostoria Community Hospital.

 

 

Betty J. Biddle
Ex-Cello Co. retiree

Betty J. Biddle, 75, of West Lytle Street, Fostoria, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, 1998, at her home.

She was born March 1, 1923, in McComb, to Charles and Laila (Morrison) Rahrig. Her husband, Carl F. Biddle, whom she married July 6, 1946, in Fostoria, died May 10, 1979.

Surviving are: a son, Robert Biddle of Wadsworth; a daughter, Mrs. William (Linda) Price of Toledo; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Charles Rahrig of Fostoria.

A sister, Virgene Barkley, is deceased.

A 1941 graduate of Fostoria High School, Mrs. Biddle retired in 1983 from the Ex-Cello Co. in Fostoria after 30 years of employment.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Eagles and AMVETS, all of Fostoria. She also was an avid fisherman on Lake Erie.

The Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite will conduct the 2:30 p.m. Friday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Memory Gradens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today.

 

 

Justin Edward Shultz-Bishop
Infant Son

Graveside services for Justin Edward Shultz-Bishop, infant son of Jason Edward and Angela Mae (Shultz) Bishop, of Fostoria, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Scott-Trinity Cemetery, Scott Township, Sandusky County, the Rev. Gustavus Christo-Baker officiating.

There will be no visitation.

The infant was stillborn at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 1998 at Fostoria Community Hospital.

Surviving besides his parents are paternal grandparents, Earl McKee and Sharel Bishop, and Gary Bishop, all of Marion; maternal grandparents, Michael and Catherine Shultz, Fostoria; paternal great-grandparents, William and JoAnn Pheasant, Marion; maternal great-grandparents, Fred and Anna Faye Preston, and Mary Jane Krotzer, all of Risingsun; a paternal great-great-grandmother, Opal Schnieder, Marion; and a maternal great-great-grandparent, Avis Krotzer, Risingsun.

Arrangements are being handled by Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne.

 

 

Betty L. Boes
Fostoria homemaker

Betty L. Boes, 71, of 237 Watson Ave., Fostoria, died in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria, at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 1998.

She was born in Fostoria, June 1, 1927, to Nicholas and Helen (Potteiger) Kauffman. On Aug. 29, 1944, in St. Wendelin Church, she married Vincent C. Boes. He survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Margaruite) Williams of Covington, La., and Mrs. Walter (Kathy) Haynes of Fostoria; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Kauffman of Modale, Iowa; a sister, Joanne Rhiness of Fostoria; two half sisters, Marlene Rahe and Pat Richards, both of Findlay; and a half brother, Jim Kauffman of Arizona.

A sister, June Williams, is deceased.

Mrs. Boes, a homemaker, was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and its Rosary-Altar Society.

She also was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles 430 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus 1197, where she was a charter member, all of Fostoria.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where Eagles Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. and a Christian Wake service at 8:30.

Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice of Seneca County.

 

 

Rosetta M. Bohn
Fostoria homemaker

Rosetta M. Bohn, 100, of St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria, died at 12:22 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, at the nursing home.

She was born April 12, 1898, in Washington Township, to the late Curtis and Sophia (Borer) Fox. She married Clarence J. Bohn on June 1, 1918 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. He died Aug. 10, 1973.

Surviving are: two daughters, Geraldine Coppus and Eileen Gehring, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeanette Miller and Helen Scharf, both of Fostoria.

Two sisters, Marcella Burns and Ruth Conine, are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Bohn was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where shewas active in the Rosary-Altar Society and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She also belonged to the Fostoria Woman's Club.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with burial in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. A Catholic Ladies of Columbia Memorial service will be 7 p.m. followed by a Wake service at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Carl C. Bouillon
Fostoria Industries retiree/farmer

Carl C. Bouillon, 72, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home at 7106 W. Loudon TR 102.

Born May 8, 1926, in New Riegel, to Joseph Edward and Corrine (Frankart) Bouillon, he married Rita Scherger, April 25, 1951, in St. Mary Church, Tiffin. She survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Stephen Bouillon of Fostoria and David Bouillon of New Riegel; four daughters, Mrs. Gary (Constance) Saxton of Tiffin, Mrs. Stephen (Jane) Schalk and Mrs. Douglas (Janet) Ink, both of New Riegel, and Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Carabin of Medina; two brothers, Gerald Bouillon of Tiffin and Harold Bouillon of New Riegel; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Doris) Lortz of Carey, Mrs. Ralph (Josephine) Kimmet and Theresa Bouillon, both of New Riegel, and Mrs. Carl (Mary Ellen) Hoffman of Burgoon; and 21 grandchildren.

Three brothers, Edmund ''Jim,'' Brother Rene, O.S.B., and Floyd, are deceased.

Mr. Bouillon, a 1944 New Riegel High School graduate, retired from Fostoria Industries, where he had been employed for 29 years.

Also a retired farmer, he was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel.

The Rev. Leonard Kistler will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rosary recited at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today, where a Wake service will be at 4 p.m.

Don E. Bradner
Fostoria Resident

Don E. Bradner, 59, of County Road 28, Fostoria, died of natural causes Friday morning, Oct. 30, 1998 on Township Road 84 in Seneca County.

He was born March 15, 1939 in Fostoria to Donald and Dorothy (Aspell) Bradner. His mother survives in Irons, Mich. He married Malinda J. Swyers on Jan. 5, 1970 in North Baltimore, and she survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are five sons, Jerry Leak, of Columbus; Shawn Bradner, Amsden; Donnie and Timothy Bradner, both of Fostoria; Christopher Bradner, Camp LeJeune, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Joe Aspell, Columbus; Harry Aspell, Okla.; Ike Eisenhour, Jenera; and a sister, Shirley Welch, Irons, Mich.

Mr. Bradner was a retired self-employed steeplejack.

He was governor of Fostoria Moose Lodge 1576, and a member of Fostoria United Sportsmen's Club, Fostoria Eagles Club, and the U.S. Parachute Association.

He as a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin and Fostoria Moose Lodge officers officiating.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Florence R. Brant
Retired State of Ohio inspector

Florence R. Brant, 89, of 1206 Roosevelt Road, Fostoria, died at 11:41 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 1998, at her residence.

She was born in Fostoria June 3, 1908, to John and Edna (Thomas) Wise. On Sept. 3, 1925, in Fostoria, she married Ralph F. Brant. He died Feb. 25, 1998.

Surviving are a son, Charles R. Brant of Titusville, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Maxine) Lombardi and Mrs. Ernest (Betty) Bossler, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Harold Wise; and a sister, Katherine Wise.

Mrs. Brant, a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria, retired in 1976 after 30 years as an inspector for the State of Ohio Women's Minor Wage and Hour Division.

The Rev. Larry Blunden will conduct the 1:30 p.m. Wednesday service in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be noon until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Annabelle Brickner
Fostoria Industries retiree/homemaker

Annabelle Brickner, 74, of 752 Eastern Ave., Fostoria, died in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, at 2:42 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998.

She was born Nov. 16, 1924, in Seneca County, to Benjamin and Clara (King) Berrier. Her husband, Edmund A. Brickner, whom she married Sept. 7, 1946, in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Liberty Township, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: three sons, Ronald Brickner of Walbridge, Brian and Chris Brickner, both of Fostoria; a daughter, Denise Woosley of Fostoria; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Benjamin Berrier of Tiffin; and five sisters, Geraldine Sheldon, Mary Lang and Estella Kelbley, all of Tiffin, Florence Williams of Findlay and Lucille Studer of New Washington.

Preceding her in death were: a grandchild, Brad Brickner; a brother, John Berrier; and a sister, Margrette Harshman.

A homemaker, Mrs. Brickner retired in 1977 from Fostoria Industries.

She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

A funeral Mass in St. Wendelin Catholic Church will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rosary recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Edwin Merritt Brown
Former Fostoria resident

Edwin Merritt Brown, 78, of Brookhaven Convalescent Center, Toledo, Ohio, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at the center. He formerly lived at 880 N. Loudon TR 47, Fostoria.

He was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Aloha Township, Cheboygan, Mich., to the late Wilfred and Eva Irene (Pallister) Brown. His first marriage was to Mildred Meister, who died in 1968. The following year, he married Edith Meister. She survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are: two sons, Albert Brian Brown of Waterville and Bryce Justin Brown of North Lewisburg; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Brenda) Goshe of Fostoria and Mrs. James (Laura Elizabeth) Gorrill Jr. of Southfield, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

His twin, Albert Henry, and another brother, John, are deceased.

Mr. Brown was a 1938 graduate of Cheboygan (Mich.) High School and served overseas during World War II. He owned and operated the Merchants Credit Bureau in Fostoria 1954-78 and had worked briefly for Fifth Third Bank and Heidelberg College in Tiffin. A member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, he was a member and founder of Fostoria Chapter of Toastmasters, where he served many years as an officer. He also belonged to United Conservation and Outdoor Association Inc., Findlay, and was a former member of Fostoria Kiwanis Club.

A funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with a rosary being recited at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Parish Cemetery, Petoskey, Mich.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Steven D. Brown
Vaughn Industries welder apprentice

Steven D. Brown, 18, of Fostoria, died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 1998, on Rt. 30, five miles east of US 23, in a car accident.

He was born in Tiffin June 4, 1980, to Darrell W. and Ora M. (Hughes) Brown. His parents survive in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a brother, James R. Brown of Fostoria; maternal grandfather, James H. Hughes of Upper Sandusky; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Tyree of Tiffin; and paternal great-grandparents, James and Lola Brown of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold W. Brown; and maternal grandmother, Carol M. (Tucker) Hughes.

A 1998 graduate of Fostoria High School, Mr. Brown was a welder apprentice for Vaughn Industries, where he began working June 8. He had a love for stockcar racing and also helped his father in racing.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Donald R. Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

James W. Browning
Retired from Southern Railway Co.

Funeral services for James W. Browning, 93, of Fostoria, will be held at noon Friday at First Baptist Church, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Mr. Browning died Monday, June 15, 1998 at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

He was born Nov. 23, 1904 in Union County, S.C. to Irving and Sarah (Smith) Browning. He married Annie Mae Choice, and she died in 1932. He married Martha Rice on Nov. 13, 1940, and she died in 1982.

Surviving are a son, J.C. of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Lorine) Gaffney, Augusta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Emerson; and a grandson.

Mr. Browning retired in 1964 after working 16 years as a laborer for Southern Railway Co. in South Carolina. He moved to Fostoria in 1989 from Fairforest, S.C.

He was a member of Fairforest Baptist Church and had served on the board of trustees.

Dorothy Bruggemann
Homemaker

Funeral services for Dorothy Bruggemann, 94, of Dayton, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, the Rev. Richard Hofmann officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be held one hour before the service Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Bruggemann died at 4:35 p.m. Monday, July 6, 1998 at a care center in Kettering.

She was born Sept. 28, 1903 in Charleston, S.C. to Edward and Agnes (Bayne) Hahn. She married Gerhard H.W. Bruggemann, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, William G. of Toledo; George E. of Kettering; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Hahn.

Mrs. Bruggemann was a homemaker.

Thelma Aileen Burson
Fostoria teacher/homemaker

Thelma Aileen Burson, 99, formerly of 968 S. SR 587, Fostoria, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in St. Francis Health Care Center, Green Springs.

She was born Dec. 13, 1898, in Oakwood, Paulding County, to Hiram B. and Ada E. (Wiseley) Stopher. She married Harrison S. Burson Sr. April 24, 1921. He died July 20, 1968.

She is survied by two grandchildren, Michael H. and Christy Anne Burson, of Orange Park, Fla., and Jacksonville, Fla., respectively, and by twin great-granddaughters.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and two sons, Harrison S. Burson Jr. and Richard Allen Burson.

Mrs. Burson graduated from Ada High School in 1915 and from Ohio Northern University Normal School in 1917. She taught elementary school at Foraker in Upper Sandusky and in Fostoria and was also a homemaker. A member of Tau Kappa Kappa Sorority and the Franklin Literary Society in Ada, she belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ and was a member of its Women's Guild.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood, Brown Township, with the Rev. Donald Mueller, chaplain of St. Francis Health Care Center, officiating.

There is no visitation. The Foos and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
