American Pie 2 "American Pie 2" rated R
The sequel to American Pie this takes place in 1999. Enjoyed the first one more; but this one did have some funny lines.
Some college kids rent a house on the lake for the summer and what fun they have. Oz (Chris Klein) is without a girlfriend, she is in Paris, and Jim (Jason Biggs) is preparing for a dream girl Nadia. Also stars Casey Affleck, Seann William Soctt and Tara Reid. Some of the situations are hilarious, but would have to rate American Pie better in the long run.

It is a Shakespearean tragedy set in modern time in an American high school. Martin Sheen is the basketball coach at a prep school. On his team are Josh Hartnett (his son in he movie), and Mekhi Phifer (a black scholarship student). Julia Stiles plays the daughter of the dean who falls in love with Odin (Mekhi Phifer).. The jealous son, of the coach, causes a big rift and lots of tragedy.
I really enjoyed the movie but was frustrated by events throughout the entire move.
The Deep End "The Deep End" rated R
Written and directed by David Siegel and Scott McGahen.
A mother (Tilda Swinton) finds her son is leading a secret gay life with a bar owner. This leads to a murder and cover up one suspecting the other of the murder. An investigator (Gorin Visnjic) happens on the scene which attacts the mother. Lots of intrigue in this one, sources say Tilda might be a possible oscar candidate!

Finds that these kids have a rough home life and really likes them. it urns it into a positive experience, except for some language is suitable for 10 and up. Directed by Brian Robbins.

Ted Brautigan (Anthony Hopkins) moves in an upstairs apartment and changes everyones life. Bobby (whos father is dead) and Ted become friends, and Bobby helps Ted fend off the unknown and the past.

Wasn't very good (really slow); but had a great cast of Julie Roberts, John Cusack, Billy Crystal and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
For an awkward, self-conscious girl like Kiki, being the personal assistant to a beautiful mega-star like Gwen isn't easy. At first it seems her challenge is to keep the peace between Gwen and Eddie and their public image intact, but soon Kiki is faced with a more personal concern as her longtime friendship with Eddie begins to take a romantic turn.

Liked it as well as the first one with lots of action and great special effects.

This infamous island, once InGen's site B, has become both a primordial breeding ground for John Hammond's magnificent creations and a magnet for thrill-seekers eager to encounter them. In their perilous attempt to escape, the dwindling group encounters terrifying new creatures undisclosed by InGen, and Grant is forced to learn the dreadful implications of his raptor intelligence theory firsthand.
Legally Blonde "Legally Blonde" rated PG-13
Is silly, but entertaining.
Elle Woods has it all. She's the president of her sorority, a Hawaiian Tropic girl, Miss June in her campus calendar, and, above all, a natural blonde. She dates the cutest fraternity boy on campus and wants nothing more than to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III. But, there's just one thing stopping Warner from popping the question: Elle is too blonde. Growing up across the street from Aaron Spelling might mean something in LA, but nothing to Warner's East-Coast blue blood family. So, when Warner packs up for Harvard Law and reunites with an old sweetheart from prep school, Elle rallies all her resources and gets into Harvard, determined to win him back. But law school is a far cry from the comforts of her poolside and the mall. Elle must wage the battle of her life, for her guy, for herself and for all the blondes who suffer endless indignities everyday.

"Princess Diaries" rated G
Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews starred in this comedy about a young New York girl who finds out she is a princess of a small European Country. Her grandmother comes to America to try and convince her to return as princess of her country, she is the only heir. Most of the funny situations were in the previews. Age for this movie is about 7 years to 14 years.
"Planet of the Apes" rated PG13
Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors. Special effects were great; thought the first planet movie is still the best. Mark Wahlberg and Tim Roth also star in this movie with lots of action. The movie has a familiar plot; an astronaut crashes on the Planet of the Apes, is captured, and plans his escape.

Takes place in 1945 off the coast of England. Nicole Kidman stars in this thriller. Her two children, played by James Bentley and Alakina Mann (by the way excellent acting), live with her in a secluded house and acquire 3 servants. The children claim the house is haunted and say they have seen the ghosts. Really slow but the ending is really a surprise.
First English language by Alejandro Amenabar and produced by Tom Cruise. Not one of favorites!!

Writen and directed by Woody Allen it was good.
This is a period piece during the 1940s; comedy drama with some mystery thrown in. Allen is an insurance investigator who is put under a spell by an act at a club. The one who puts him under uses him to rob houses that he has burlar proofed. Along with his do-worker (Helen Hunt) it becomes love and hate. Only Woody Allen has such wit. Dan Acroyd and Charlize Theron also star, enjoyed it ver much.

Don't Say A Word

"Don't Say A Word" rated R
What a good thriller. Confusing at first; which makes you wonder how they will tie it all together.
Preeminent New York psychiatrist Dr. Nathan Conrad has a successful practice, a beautiful wife and a charming daughter. Making his way home for the Thanksgiving holiday, Conrad is summoned by a colleague to examine a young woman. Elisabeth Burrows presents a history of unexplained violence, failed treatments and misdiagnoses. In short, the kind of case Nathan used to live for before he went 'uptown.' Now he is Elisabeth's last chance before she is shipped off to a state institution. Nathan's skills and intuition begin to make headway into Elisabeth's case. Little does Nathan suspect that Elisabeth is tied to a danger that has closed in on him and his family. Nathan's daughter has been kidnapped by ruthless thieves, and to save her he must somehow unlock a 6-digit number locked away in Elisabeth's troubled mind. With his daughter's captors watching his every move, Nathan is constantly reminded: if he wants to see his daughter alive, he dare not say a single word.
This movie is along the lines of "Rear Window" and Fatal Attraction" meaning lots of action.

Training Day "Training Day" rated R
A cop thriller starring Denzel Washington as a REALLY evil cop, Sgt. Alonzo Harris, hardened by the years of catching criminals. This is his most evil role yet, but he does an excellent job.
Harriis is training a rookie cop, John Yoyte played by Ethan Hawke to be on his elite narcotics squad. They ride around town (LA) in a customized Cadillac and Jake finds his deadly routine full of violence, murder, theft and lots of treachery. A good thriller, lots of violence.. Supporting roles played by Tom Berenger, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Scott Glenn. This film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David Ayer.
Serendipity ""Serendipity" rated pg-13

In their wake, they leave a trail of chaos, disguises, wrecked automobiles -and an adoring public- while fleeing from the law. Their operation is running smoothly until they have an unexpected run-in with Kate, who is drawn to the thieves as a way to escape her ordinary life. Together Joe and Terry are the most successful bank robbers in U.S. history. To Kate, they also combine to make the perfect man. Things get more complicated when the police and media assume that Kate is their hostage and organize a massive manhunt to save her from the clutches of Joe and Terry.
A cross between bonnie and clyde and butch cassidy and the sundance kid. Written by Harley Peyton and directed by Barry levinson this is a must see.

"From Hell" rated R
The old tale of Jack the Ripper; this movie stars Johnny Depp, Heather Graham and Robbie Coltrane. Depp plays an opium addicted detective who investigates the murders of prostitutes in London, and has visions of the ones who are killed. The special effects are awesome but a little slow and hard to follow in the beginning. Are they covering up the killer because he is royalty?? This movie is based on the novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell and directed by the Hughes brothers.
The Glass House "The Glass House" rated pg-13
Like this move also; a thriller starring LeeLee Sobieski. The brother and sister are orphaned and the guardians are old neighbors. Of course, they live in a glass house and their name is glass....Lots of tension in the house, he owes money and she is a drug addict so basically they want the children's' money. The tension builds slowly but you don't know until the end who really killed who.

"The Last Castle" rated R
Like this movie also; a little unrealistic for prison life (a cross between Brubaker and Shaw Shank Redemption) but lots of action. This movie revolved around a prison for Service men convicted of crimes in the military. The prison overseer (James Gandolfini) is power hungry, mean, and conniving. Robert Redford becomes a friend and leader of the prison and they try to overthrow Gandolfini) lots of action and of course Robert Redford is always good. Steve Burton plays Lt. Peretz and a slow inmate who wins your heart.

A movie based on the autobiographical novel by Beverly D'Onofrio it takes you through her life from 1961 - 1986. It stars Drew Barrymore as Beverly who becomes a mother at 15 married to a high school dropout Ray (Steve Zahn). She feels her life is over, she always wanted to write for a newsspaper. Her father, a policeman, is played by James Woods and her mother is played by Lorraine Bracco, they feel she is wasting her life. She soon becomes a single mother and she and her best buddy(Brittany Murphy) who by the way does an excellent job in this movie. When Bev leaves Ray, her son becomes the main man in her life. This movie is funny, sad, and romantic. Its written by Morgan Upton Ward and directed by Penny Marshall.

A mysterious mental patient Prot (Kevin Spacey) appears at Grand Central Station and claims to be an alien from K-PAX, of course he is immediately taken to a mental institution where a Dr. Mark Powell (Jeff Bridges) becomes his doctor. Overworked and not spending a lot of time with his family Dr Powell becomes entranced by Prot. Prot has the attention of all the patients on his floor, promising to take one along when he returns to K-PAX on July 27th. Also staring Alfre Woodard as Dr. Claudia Villars, Mary McCormack as Marks' wife and Aaron Paul. This movie is a little like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Starman" also starring Jeff Bridges. Is he really an Alien?; he is believable.... so-so movie, Spacey does an excellent job but moves a little slow.
Domestic Disturbance "Domestic Disturbance" rated Pg-13
What a good "thriller", pins and needles through most of the movie. The preview did reveal a lot of the movie but it was still good. John Travolta stars as the divorced father, Frank Morrison, who is told by his son that his ex-wives new husband has murdered someone. There is not evidence or body so the police do not believe him but frank does. The new husband, Rick, is played by Vince Vaughn, the ex-wife by Teri Polo of "Meet the Parents". Of course Rick is not who he says he is, he has a record. I liked this movie, lots of dark scenes and pop outs. Directed by Terry Zwigoff and written by Daniel Clowes.

Based on J.K. Rowling's best selling novel, pretty much follows the book.

He is finally told that he has been accepted at the Howarts School for Wizards. Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) comes to surrey and take him to the school. He meets all kinds of special kids and great teachers. They discover a secret trap door guarded by a 3 headed dog. Richard Harris plays Dumbledore who is the head honcho at the school. O'Brother, Where art thou? O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? -
(Maumee Cimema)
A movie you walk out of not sure if you liked it or not! George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson did a great jobs of portaying 1930 escaped prisoners. The humor was bizarre somethimes but the Coen brothers ("Fargo") are known for that, enjoyable but don't think I would watch it again...
Chocolat

CHOCOLAT -
(Maumee Cimema)

Not sure I would call it a comedy, very sensative. It was narrated somewhat and a delightful movie to watch. The movie took place in the 1950's and the costomes were great. Enjoyed it a lot and would recommend this one!!

Save the Last Dance SAVE THE LAST DANCE - (pg-13)
(Maumee Cinema)
A great movie for all ages. It was kind of a female version of "Billy Elliot" (which was excellent).
A white girl (Julia Stiles) looses her mother and is forced to move to Chicago with a father she doesn't know. Her love of ballet is put on the back burner until she meets an African American young man (Sean Patrick) Thomas, who also loves dancing.
The music and dancing are great; very entertaining.
Wedding Planner

THE WEDDING PLANNER -
(Carmike Findlay 6 movie theater.)
Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey do a half decent job but a lot of slow spots!! It's comedy about a wedding planner who falls for one of her client's fiance'. Number one, on the charts, for second week in a row but not in by book.

State and Main

STATE and MAIN -
(Southwyke Cinema)
It is a very good, funny, romatic, adult comedy about the movie the making business.
How they will try anything to get their movie made, written and directed by David Mamet. It is worth seeing.

The Pledge THE PLEDGE -
(Maumee Cimema)
Did not care for it. I have always like Jack Nicholson; this reminded me of his role in "The Shining". I was slow and hard to follow in a lot of parts.
It's about a retired policeman who buys a business in a small town but is obsessed about a murder. A really confusing movie with a dumb ending!! Even went all the way to the Maumee Cinema to see is. only 1 1/2 m&m's.

Staring Anthony Hopkins and Julianne Moore is the third installment of the Thomas Harris' novels.
Anthony Hopkins is great as usual; but the movie is not! Julianne Moore does a good job but is not seen in the movie a lot!
Lots of guts and gore, great special effects; I might not see the next installment!!
Sweet November

SWEET NOVEMBER-
(AMC Century 14 Theater in Hollywood CA.)
Take a lot of tissue. Charlize Theron does a super job - Keanu Reeves' acting could be improved. This is a remake of a 1968 movie by the same name; but the original was probably better.
Scenery is great and Reeves and Theron have great chemistry on screen.

3000 Miles to Graceland 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND-
(Maumee stadium theater)
This movie was number four for the week in the ratings.
I loved it.... Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner are great. Lots of violence; ex-cons rob a casino in Las Vegas dressed as Elvis Presley during an Elvis contest.
Won't rate it better because most people will not like the amount of violence.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON-
(Maumee stadium theater)
Cinematography was wonderful, but reading the subtitles and watching the screen are difficult to do.
Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh do a great job. Lots of martial arts mixed with a little romance while recovering a stolen sword. Will do well at the oscars!!

Before Night Falls BEFORE NIGHT FALLS-
(Southwyke Art Cinema)
Before Night Falls (rated r), is based on Reinaldo Arenas autobiography.
Javier Bardem does a great job in the lead role (Oscar material). The movie traces his life from childhood, to his life in exile in New York City.
Arenas lived as a political dissident, homosexual in Cuba in the 1940's. His was a very difficult life, dying of aides at an early age.
The movie was very difficult to follow; old film clips, included in the new movie. Background pictures made it hard to read some of the subtitles; with the movie being in English along with parts subtitled.
THE MEXICAN

THE MEXICAN-
Really enjoyed this movie, with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. What charisma between the two actors!!!
It is shot in LA and Mexico; has lots of humor, some violence, and James Gandofini (from the Sopranos) does a great job also.

Of course Robert Deniro is always good in whatever he is in. Has a great cast; Edward Burns, Kelsey Grammer (from Frasier), and Melina Kanakaredes (from Providence).
A New York City detective teams up with a arson investigator to track down a couple of cold blooded killers who are making a movie of their escapades.
Really violent and lots of action.
Enemy at the Gates ENEMY AT THE GATES- rated R
(Maumee Stadium theater)
What a movie to see on the big screen!
It is based on a true story of Soviet World War II snipe,r Vassily Zeitsev, played by Jude Law. Other actors include Bob Hoskins, Ed Harris, Joseph Fiennes, and Rachel Weisz. Some violence but great acting, writing, directing, and produced by Juan-Jacques Annaud.
heartBREAKeRS HEARTBREAKERS- rated PG-13
(Carmike Theater Findlay)
Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt star in this comedy along with Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta. The two women lure the rich men, marry them and then try to get all there money... very slow, could have cut about 20 minutes off of it.
Pollock

POLLOCK- rated R
(Columbus (Bexley) to the Drexel)
What a good movie. Ed Harris and Marcia Gay Harden were superb, would have picked Marcia Gay Harden as best supporting actress if I had seen the movie earlier.
Based on a true story of abstract artist Jackson Pollock in the 1940's. It shows his turmoil and rage in life, but what a talented artist.
