Banks, Steve

Fostoria St. Wendelin graduate ... Lettered as a defensive back at the University of Toledo from 1969-71 when the Rockets were 35-0 ... Was named second-team All-Mid-American Conference in 1970 ... Tied for all-time punt returns (60) and fourth all-time with 346 punt return yards at UT ... Holds UT records for most punt (10) and kickoff returns (7) in a game against Marshall in 1971 and 1970, respectively ... Still holds St. Wendelin school-record in the long jump.

 

Echelberry, Cory

1999 Fostoria High School graduate ... Holds the OHSAA Division II state discus record set at 1999 championships with a throw of 202-4 ... OHSAA Division I discus runner-up as a junior ... Four-year football letter winner ... Currently at Bowling Green State University.

 

Fisher, Brad

Fostoria High School graduate who was an All-Ohio pick as a senior and went on to start for two seasons for the Clemson University football team ... The 6-foot-4, 230 pounder started at left guard as a junior and at left tackle as a senior on Clemson's 1981 team, that won the Orange Bowl and the national championship with a perfect 12-0 record.

 

Hipsher, Dan

Fostoria High School graduate ... A standout basketball player at Fostoria High School and Bowling Green State University, Hipsher has a 172-105 record in 10 seasons as a head coach at Stetson University of Akron ... He coached the Zips to an 18-9 record in 1999.

 

Jackson, Grant

Pitched for six major league teams from 1965 to 1982 ... Had .534 win percentage with 889 strikeouts ... Career ERA of 3.46 ... Went 6-0 during the latter half of 1976 with the New York Yankees (1.69 ERA) ... Member of two World Series teams.

 

Johnson, Joe

High school honorable mention All-American at Fostoria High School and the Class AA state long jump champion for the Redman in 1979 ... Johnson went on to be a four-year starter as a defensive back at the University of Notre Dame ... Tallied 60 total tackles for Fighting Irish his senior year in 1984, with 19 solos, two broken up passes and two caused fumbles, starting every game but one ... Had season high 11 tackles against Purdue his senior year ... He also played for the Jacksonville Bulls in the short-lived United States Football League.

 

Kidwell, Dick

The winningest coach in the long and storied history of Fostoria High School football ... Kidwell posted a 173-74-3 mark in 20 years as head coach ... During his tenure the Redmen won two state championships and several Great Lakes League crowns despite being the smallest school in the league.

 

Lee, Tony

Fostoria St. Wendelin graduate ... University of Toledo kicker ... Booted a 41-yard game-winning field goal in 1981 with no time on the clock to beat San Jose State 27-25 at the California Bowl ... Lettered in 1981, '82 and '83 ... Third on all-time field goals list with 39 ... Had 15 in both '82 and '83 ... Kicked four against Central Michigan in 1982 ... Was 30 of 30 in extra point kicks in 1981 ... Played in United States Football League.

Longtime professional baseball scout ... Scouted for the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies over a span of nearly 40 years ... Signed 50 players who eventually played in the major leagues ... Namesake of the Tony Lucadello Invitational, an annual high school baseball tournament hosted by Fostoria St. Wendelin.

 

Maxwell, Dick

Fostoria High School and Bowling Green State University graduate ... Currently the director of communications for the National Football League ... He has also worked as head of public relations for both the Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

 

McBeth, Casey

Fostoria High School graduate ... University of Toledo's second leading rusher all-time with 2,719 yards ... Lettered in 1991, '92 and '94 ... First team All-MAC tailback in '92 and '94 ...Holds UT's single-game rushing record with 304 yards versus Akron on October 22, 1994. Had 5 touchdowns, 32 points and 370 all-purpose yards in the game ... Rushed for 192 yards in 1993 versus Northern Illinois and 169 against Ball State in 1992 ... Third on UT's all-time all-purpose yardage list with 3,257.

 

McDonald, Doug

Lettered on the Ohio State men's basketball team in 1961, '62 and '63 ... Played in 74 career games with the Buckeyes, averaging 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds ... Was 189 of 418 (.452) from the field and 82 of 135 (.607) from the free throw line in his career.

 

Moore, Clayton

Four-year starting linebacker at UT from 1981-84 ... Third leading all-time tackler with 414 stops ... Had 22 tackles in 1983 and 154 in 1984, both season highs ... Ohio state wrestling qualifier as a senior at Fostoria in his first year of wrestling ... Older brother of Philadelphia Eagles safety Damon Moore.

Four-year letterman as safety at Ohio State, starting 36 games ... First-team all-Big Ten in 1997 and '98 ... Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1999 NFL Draft in the fourth round (128th overall pick) ... Led Ohio State in tackles as a sophomore and senior ... Three-year starter at Ohio State earning all-Big 10 honors twice while a candidate for the Jim Thorpe award for the country's top defensive back as a senior ... Led Fostoria Senior to the state finals in 1992 as a first-year quarterback ... Also helped the Redmen to the regional basketball berth his senior year.

 

Sheeran, Jessie

Fostoria High School graduate ... Two-time Division II Ohio discus champion in 1997 and '98 ... Akron University school-record holder in the shot put ...Two-year letter winner for the Zips ... Also a member of the Fostoria girls basketball and tennis teams in high school.

 

Tyson, Jeff

MAC basketball player of the year for Western Michigan during the 1976 season when he averaged 17.9 points per game ... He lettered in 1974, '75 and '76 for the Broncos and was a second team all-MAC player in 1975 ... 11th on WMU's career scoring list with 1,206 points and 6th in career field goals with 513.
