Kathryn L. Sacksteder, 87, of 182 St. Francis Ave.,
Tiffin, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born July 11, 1914, in Tiffin to Andrew
and Catherine (Carrigan) Sacksteder and both are deceased.
Survivors include: a brother, Thomas Sacksteder
of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Miriam S.) Fanshaw of Tiffin;
and 16 nieces and nephews.
Deceased also include: three brothers, James, Richard
and Robert P. Sacksteder.
Miss Sacksteder graduated in 1933 from Calvert High
School and worked as a teller for many years for Citizens Savings
and Loan (First Bank of Tiffin).
She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Tiffin;
a Penthouse member; and a volunteer in the gift shop at Mercy
Hospital of Tiffin.
The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Thursday
followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The Rev. James K. Say will be the officiant. Burial will be in
St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Gottfried
Funeral Home.

Marganne M. Sherrard,
53, of 1570 Pelton Rd., Fostoria, died Saturday, Jan.12, 2002,
at Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born Aug.23, 1948, in Fostoria to Joseph
D. and Rosemary R. (Rock) Clark Sr. He is deceased and she survives
in Fostoria. She married Thomas A. Sherrard on Nov,24, 1973, at
St.Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria and he survives.
Survivors also include: a son, David T. Sherrard
and a daughter, Amanda M. Sorg, both of Fostoria; a grandson;
three brothers, Joseph D. Clark Jr. of Randolph, N.J., Hugh R.
Clark of Yuma, Ariz., and Robert B. Clark of Clearwater, Fla.;
three sisters, Roxanne R. Harmon of Bluffton, Patricia E. Clark
of Largo, Fla., and Barbara J. Sauber of Fostoria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday
at St. Wendelin Catholic Church where the rosary will be prayed
at 10 a.m. Internment will be in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery.

Edna V. Sperry-Helms, 81, of Christopher Drive, Fostoria, died
at 1:21 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the St. Catherine's Care
Center, Fostoria. She was born Dec. 23, 1920, in South Portsmouth,
Ky., to Doc and Hailey (Potter) Parker. They are deceased. She
was first married to Forest I. Sperry. He is deceased. Her second
husband, Rollie "Corky" Helms, died in 1988.
Survivors include: two sons, Jack and Theodore Sperry, both of
Bradner; three daughters, Ramona Maxwell of Gibsonburg, Mrs. Dale
(Edith) Helms and Mrs. Clarence (Hailey) Crump, both of Fostoria;
two step-daughters, Wendy Blausey of Gibsonburg and Vickey Vrabel
of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren;
19 step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Milioni officiating. Interment
will be in the Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Scholidon, Ruby. E.
Ruby E. Scholidon, 73, of 816 Eastern Ave., Fostoria, died at
3:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Blanchard Valley Regional
Health Center, Findlay. She was born in Ada on Sept. 22, 1928,
to Marcelles "Ted" and Golda (Stevenson) Kimble, both of whom
are deceased. She married John F. Scholidon on April 26, 1947,
in Tiffin and he died on April 19, 1992.
Survivors include: two sons, John D. Scholidon of Fostoria and
Daniel J. Scholidon of Weston; four daughters, Joan F. Scholidon,
Patricia Ann Scholidon, Mary Christine Scholidon and Susan I.
Scholidon, all of Fostoria; a brother, Charles "Chick" Kimble
of Lodi, Calif.; three sisters, Marcella Peterson of Portland,
Ore., Ruth Wildman of Amsden, Clara Williams of Fostoria; and
four grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home.
Internment will be in St. Wendelin Cemetery, Fostoria.

Joseph Willard Shook
I, 77 years old, 769 Greenfield Court, Tiffin, Ohio, died at 4:30
p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, in Mercy Hospital Emergency Room,
Tiffin.
He was born July
14, 1924, in Bascom, Ohio, to the late Eber and Nettie (Emerine)
Shook. On Dec. 2, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin,
he married Phylis M. Kirchner, who survives.
Other survivors include:
two sons, Joseph Willard Shook II and wife Mendy of Attica, Ohio,
and David Charles Shook and wife Julie of Toledo, Ohio; a daughter,
Rebecca Elaine Botton and husband John of Tiffin; a sister, Leota
Mears of Fostoria, Ohio; and eight granddaughters. Also preceding
him in death were four brothers and four sisters.
A graduate of St.
Wendelin High School, Fostoria, Mr. Shook retired in 1982 after
32 years at National Machinery Company, Tiffin. A U.S. Army veteran
of World War II, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church,
Tiffin and the Quarter Century Club.
A funeral Mass will
be at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 26, in St. Joseph Catholic Church,
with the Rev. James Say officiating. The rosary will be recited
in church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph
Cemetery.

Betty J. Snelling, 69, of 8435 CR 31, Bettsville, died at 12:15
a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002. She was born in Hubell, W.Va.
April 9, 1932, to Talmadge and Dellie (Cremeans) Porter, both
of whom are deceased. On July 8, 1950, she married Harold
A. Snelling in West Hamlin, W. Va., and he died Feb. 29, 1992.
She is survived by: two sons, (Charles) and Judy Snelling of
Bettsville and (Robert) and Barbara Snelling of Lindsey; two
daughters, Carl and (Linda) Wyant of Fremont and Peter and (Darlene)
Green of Fostoria; two brothers, Calvin Porter of
Branchland, W.Va., and Billy Ray Porter of Tiffin; two sisters,
Alma Mae Beard of Tiffin and Barbara Ann Cooper of
Branchland, W.Va.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Snelling was a homemaker who lived most of her life in
the Seneca County area. She was a member of the Tiffin Freewill
Baptist Church.

Home with the Rev. Charles Snelling and the Rev. Robert
Snelling officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Funeral services for Margaret Marie Swartz, 77,
of Courtly Drive, Fostoria, and of North Fort Myers, Fla., will

Mrs. Swartz died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002,
at her residence in North Fort Myers, Fla.
She was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Prairie Depot (now Wayne)
to Walter Ray and Ina Gladys (Bressler) Ostrander. She married
Harry Frank Swartz on Feb. 8, 1947, and he survives.
Also surviving are a son, Bill of Fostoria; six daughters,
Mrs. Mike (Diana) Mock and Mrs. William (Jacquie) Newman,
both of Findlay; Mrs. Larry (Luci) Runion, Fostoria; Laura Smith,
Lake Station, Ind.; Mrs. Gary (Ginny) Shinew, Cygnet; and
Mrs. Scott (Jane) Benroth, Bluffton; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Ron Ostrander, Old Town, Fla.; and two sisters, Alta
Sexton, Wayne; and LouEllen Duty, Bowling Green.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harry "Sonny" Jr.;
and three sisters, Orvetta Smith, Lois Risenburg and Pat Dispennett.
Mrs. Swartz was a homemaker and had worked at RCA, Findlay,
for eight years.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria,
and a former member of its Rehoboth Circle. She was a member of
Elks Lodge 935, Fostoria, and Coachman Club. She was a former
member of< Lakeland Golf Club, Fostoria; Swinging Satellites Square
Dancing Club; and Vagabonds Camping Club.

60, of 810 Wayne Place, Fremont, and formerly

Cemetery, Monroe, Mich.

Mr. Tuttle died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002,
at Wade Park Veterans Affairs Center, Cleveland.
He was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Fostoria to Orville
E. and E. Pauline (Livers) Tuttle. He married Jane K.
Wickenheiser on Oct. 22, 1966, and she died Jan. 20, 1989. He
married Alice L. Harbaugh Dec. 2, 2001, and she suvives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dawn M. Tuttle-Goddard,
Fostoria; and Antionette E. Tuttle, Risingsun; a son, Jeffrey
S. of Dallas; two stepsons, Brian L. Speicher, Tiffin; and Donald
J. Speicher III, Greensprings; nine grandchildren; a stepgrandchild;
two brothers, Robert J. of Tiffin; and Ronald D. of Fostoria;
and a sister, Mrs. Norman (Alice F.) Frye, Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by two infant children.
Mr. Tuttle was a salesman.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He was a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846 and Fremont
American Legion.

Elizabeth S. Stewart, 92, formerly of West Lytle Street,
Fostoria, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at St.
Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
She was born Jan. 15, 1910, in Gibsonstation, Va. to Sid
and Martha (Jenkins) Stigualle. She married Woodrow Stewart
on April 24, 1939, and he died Nov. 18, 1983.
Surviving are two sons, Virgil, in Michigan; Richard of Fostoria;
five daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Ann) Spittler, Wyandot, Mich.;
Mrs. Ray (Lucille) Garza, Lincoln Park, Mich.; Ruby Newton,
Houston, Texas; Mrs. James (Margaret) Bateson-Tucker, Findlay;
Mrs. Ron (Dorothy Jean) Henry, Fostoria; 29 grandchildren;
50 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Shelby; a daughter, Marie
Stewart; a sister and a brother.
Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker.
She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of
God and was affiliated with First Church of the Nazarene,
both in Fostoria.

Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. Robert Chew officiating.

Albert J. Thomas, 105, a resident of Good Shepherd Nursing
Home, and formerly of Perrysburg Road, Fostoria, died at 2:38
p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his residence.
He was born May 17, 1896, in Hancock County to James and
Eliza (Grant) Thomas. He married Mattie M. Hopkins on May
2, 1922, in Findlay, and she died June 16, 1968.
Surviving are a son, Junior R. of Clyde; two daughters, Florence
Burgbacher and Bernita Hakes, both of Fostoria; five grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren; a great-grandchild;
seven brothers, Sam, Jim, Frank, Don, Charles, Clark and Arthur;
and four sisters, Mae Caldwell, Ollie Litzenburg, Elizabeth
Brookman and Marguerite Papenfus.
Mr. Thomas retired in 1961 as a finisher for Union Carbide
Co., Fostoria, after more than 28 years.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War I, serving in the
37th Buckeye Division.
He was a member of American Legion, VFW, Eagles Club and
AMVETS, all in Fostoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Chaplain Jim Sampson officiating.
Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery, with military rites by

Zenith S. Snyder, 95, a resident of Good Shepherd Nursing
Home, Fostoria, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002,
at her residence.
She was born March 9, 1906, in Seneca County to Oliver and
Mercy (Cypher) Funk. She married Roscoe Fruth on Jan. 17,
1932, and he died in May 1972. She then married Norman T.
Snyder on March 31, 1973, and he died in June 1999.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jerry (Norma) Kwiatkowski,
Toledo; a stepson, Terry Snyder, Portage; two step-grandchildren;
and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Snyder retired in 1972 as the society editor of the
Review Times, Fostoria. She also formerly owned and operated
Fruth Laundry, Fostoria.
She attended Tiffin High School and graduated from Tiffin
University in 1924.
She was a member of Heatherdowns Church of the Brethren;
Kings Daughters Westminster Circle; Knights Templar Ladies;
and was a 50-year member of Fostoria Chapter 94 OES.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Paul E. Myers officiating.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, near Fostoria.

The Rev. T. Patrick Scharf, 59, formerly of Fostoria, died
at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Hospice of NW Ohio,
Perrysburg.
He was born June 9, 1942, in Fostoria,, to Lawrence A. "Gus"
and Catherine "Kate" (Cleary) Scharf. His mother
survives in Mansfield.
Other survivors include: a brother, the Rev. Larry Scharf
of Monroeville; three sisters, Kathleen Scharf, Ph.D. of Chicago,
Ill.,Paula Adsit, Ed.D. of San Francisco, CA and Mary Angela
"Angie" Alpin of Mansfield; and a nephew, Sean Alpin,
of Mansfield.
His father is deceased.
The Rev. Scharf attended St. Wendelin Elementary and High
School, graduating in 1960 from St. Meinrad High School and
St. Meinrad College of Philosophy in 1964. He also graduated
from Mount St. Mary's of the West Seminary, Cincinnati in
1968 and attended Xavier University Graduate School, Cincinnati.
He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest, May 25, 1968 for
the Diocese of Toledo and served as an associate pastor at
Holy Angels, Sandusky; St. Joseph, Sylvania and St. Charles,
Lima. He served as pastor at Our Lady of Mercy, Fayette; Our
Lady of Fatima, Lyons; Immaculate Conception, Toledo; Little
Flower, Toledo and was currently the pastor of St. Augustine
Catholic Church, Napoleon, Ohio.
A Reception of the Body and Vespers are at 5 p.m. today with
visitation until 9 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church,
Napoleon.

Buelah M. Steck, 85, St. Catherine's Care Center, formerly

to the late John Wesley and Elizabeth "Libby" (Young)
Brooks.
She married Henry J. Steck in Tiffin March 12, 1934. He preceded
her in death.
Survivors include: a son, Robert Steck of Fostoria; two daughters,
Mrs. Gary Weicht of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Betty Paris of Upper
Sandusky; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and
a great-great-grandchild.

Clyde Shackelford, 74, of Woodward Avenue, Fostoria, died
at 6:13 a.m. Sunday, April 7,2002, at St. Vincent's Medical
Center, Toledo.
He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Bell County, Kentucky to Charles
and Elizabeth (Baker) Shackelford. He married Geraldine M.
Peace on June 27, 1947, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ralph E. and Steve, both of Fostoria;
two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Gwendolyn) Burrows and Mrs. Robert
(Sue) Garza, both of Fostoria; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Garrett of Fostoria; and two sisters, Thelma Mason
and Kathleen Shackelford, both of Pineville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Shackelford;
a grandchild; a brother, Ed; and a sister, Francis Helton.
Mr. Shackelford retired in 1990 as a setup man at Chrysler
Corp., Perrysburg. He formerly worked at Fostoria Foundry.
He was a member of Dillon Road Baptist Church.

She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Fostoria, to Orestus and Jeletta
(Swartzmiller) Potteiger. She married Carl J. Shank Aug. 26,
1951 in Fostoria. He survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: three sons, Raymond J. Nye, Tom Nye
and Jack D. Nye, all of Fostoria; two brothers, Robert Pottieger
of Concord, Calif., and Theodore Potteiger of Findlay; 10

Robert Vance Slaughterbeck, 78, of West Millgrove, died at
1:15 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Bowling Green to George O.
and Mary L. (Robison) Slaughterbeck. He married the Rev. Mary
L. Paddock on Feb. 14, 1945, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Robert A. of Risingsun; John
V. of Bowling Green; Dennis J. of Pemberville; Mark D. of
Wayne; a daughter, Karen L. Hansen, Wayne; 27 grandchildren;
24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul "Barney"
of Wayne; three sisters, Virginia Oberle, Fostoria; Lois Fultz,
Stowe; and Georgia Feasel, Arcadia, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul W.
Mr. Slaughterbeck retired as truck terminal manager for the
former Matlack terminal of Woodville.
He was a U.S. Army infantry veteran of World War II. He received
the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon
with three bronze stars, good conduct medal, World War II
Victory Medal; combat infantryman badge and rifle marksman.
He was a member of Kings Parish Church, Hatton, and Albert
Bowe American Legion Post 338, Bradner. He was a former member
of West Millgrove Volunteer Fire Department and West Millgrove
Council.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barndt
Funeral Home, Wayne, the Rev. Betty Wineland officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, West Millgrove.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at
the funeral home.

NETA LUCILLE
Neta Lucille Schultz, 86, of Taft Blvd., Fostoria, died at
8:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Home
in Fostoria. Born May 13, 1915 in Bloomville to John and Tina
(Newson) Wolfelt, both deceased. On Dec. 31, 1946 she married
Harold F. Schultz, and he survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, James Haynes of Fostoria,
and Thomas Thompson of Titusville, Fla.; two daughters, Carolyn
Rivera and Janet Sue Priddy, both of Fostoria; 12 grandchildren,
21 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death were two sons, Ernie Eugene and Stanley
Wolfelt.
There are no services or burial plans.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April
27, 2002 at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Graveside services for Harold F. Schultz, 80, a resident of
Good Shepherd Nursing Home,
Fostoria, and formerly of Taft Boulevard, will be held at
1 p.m. Monday at Fountain Cemetery,
Fostoria, the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Military rites
will be conducted by Joint Veterans of Fostoria.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Schultz died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his
residence.
He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Sherwood to Joseph and Stella
(Guilford) Schultz. He married Neta L. Wolfelt on Dec. 31,
1946, in Fostoria, and she died April 24, 2002.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Carolyn Rivera and Janet
Sue Priddy, both of Fostoria; two stepsons, James Haynes,
Fostoria; Thomas Thompson, Titusville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother,
Charles L. of Defiance; and two sisters, Violet Keckler and
Rose Talbott, both of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Stanley and Ernie
Eugene Haynes; a brother, Albert; and a sister, Alberta Schultz.
Mr. Schultz retired in 1981 as a truck driver for Hal Miller
Trucking Co., Helena.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services for Franklin F. Steffen, 87, of Wayne, will

Mr. Steffen died at 1:57 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Independence
House, Fostoria.
He was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Paulding County to Will and
Mary Jane (Hardy) Steffen. He married Lois C. Brandeberry
on June 10, 1936, in Bloomdale, and she died April 21, 1994.
Surviving are a companion, Ferne E. Stahl, Wayne; and a sister,
Alice G. Spira, Wayne.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland; and two sisters,
Jo and Jessie.
Mr. Steffen retired as superintendent of the maintenance department
for Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria.
He was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church and Wayne-Bradner
Senior Citizens.

KATHRYN
Kathryn Geraldine Stagger, 76, formerly of Upper Sandusky,
died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at
Medi Lodge Nursing Home, Monroe, Mich.
She was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Hollister to Clarence and Sylvia
(Davis) Bethel. She married Paul W. Stagger on Oct. 10, 1947,
in Fostoria, and he died Feb. 6, 1980.
Surviving are two sons, James Allen of Monroe, Mich.; and
Robert W. of Columbus; two daughters, Shirley A. Stansbery
and Nancy E. Nelson, both of Upper Sandusky; nine grandchildren;
eight
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Madeline Woods, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Stagger was a homemaker. She retired as a housekeeper
from the Holiday Inn, Toledo, after 10 years.
She attended Christ Lutheran Church, Monroe, Mich. She was
a member of VFW Post 1138 Ladies Auxiliary, Newport, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bringman
Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will
be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral
home.

WALTER
Walter Saldausky, 83, of West Jackson Street, Fostoria, died
at 2:10 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Cleveland to Casimer and Magdalyn
(Thompson) Saldausky. He married Dorothea Duncan on Jan. 30,
1948, in Fostoria, and she died Aug. 31, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Dennis of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs.
Glen (Linda) Tatman, Chillicothe; 11
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, William
of Fostoria; and a sister, Mary Windsor, Grand Haven, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Monasmith;
and four brothers, Frank, George, Mike and Andy.
Mr. Saldausky retired in 1981 as an inspector at Fostoria
Foundry.
He was a 1937 graduate of Fostoria High School.
He was a former member of Fostoria United Sportsmen Club.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Leonard W. Theiry, 79, of 1341 South SR 19 Republic, died
Friday afternoon, May 31, 2002, in the emergency room at Mercy
Hospital of Tiffin, after a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Fostoria, to Jacob and Barbara
E. (Eisley) Theiry.
He is survived by: longtime companion, Martha Soski of
Republic; a daughter and son-in-law, Anthony and Rebecca Searcy
of University Heights, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Tymothy
and Joan Theiry of Inverness, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Mrs.Luke
(Sue) Kerns of Tiffin and Mrs. Sue Ashton of Rossford, Ohio;
a stepson, Mark Soski of Bellevue; two grandchildren, Mrs.
Raya Summers of Greensboro, N.C. and Rani Shields of Oakwood
Village, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Brandenand Jordon
Summers of Greensboro, N.C. and Nicholas Shields of Oakwood
Village, Ohio; a brother, Gerald Theiry of Bradenton, Fla.;
and a sister, Mrs. Helen Gray of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Banks and
a brother, Herman Theiry.
Mr. Theiry retired from National Machinery in 1985, where
he was employed as a tool maker for 38 years. He was a W II
Marine Corp. veteran, serving as a presidential guard for
President Roosevelt. A member of the St. Aloysius Catholic
Church in Republic, the St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus Council
11287, the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and a life
member of the Tiffin VFW.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Lindsey-Olds
Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 Bloomville. The Quarter Century
Club will have a visitation at 7 p.m., and the St. Aloysius
Knights of Columbus will have services and recite the Rosary
at 8:45 p.m.

Marilyn M. Tiell, 67, of 616 W. 4th St., Fostoria, died
unexpectedly at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at their
summer home in Oak Harbor.
She was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Fostoria to William and
Bessie (Mills) Clary. She married John H. Tiell on May 21,
1955, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. He survives
in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two sons, John Paul Tiell of
Calif.; and George William Tiell of Fostoria.; three daughters,
Mrs. Veronica (William) Barfield of Findlay, Camille Thompson
and Nita Tiell, both of Fostoria; eight grandchildren; and
a sister Mrs. Shirley (Melvin) Schreiner of Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Tiell was a 1953 graduate of Fostoria High School.
She worked at the L&K Motel, and Candyland Restaurant
in Fostoria. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Wendelin
Catholic Church in Fostoria and the New Riegel American
Legion Women's Auxiliary, Unit 354.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday
at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. Burial will
be in St. Michael's Parish Cemetery in Findlay.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening

Legion Ladies Auxiliary memorial service will be at 4 p.m.

She was born May 29, 1929, in Bloomdale to Charles
and Zella (Slotterbeck) Bohring. She married George D.
Swinehart on Aug. 17, 1949, in Fostoria, and he died Aug.
26, 1986.
Surviving are a son, George of Pyongtaek, South
Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Nancy) Ferguson, Fostoria;
Margene Gonyer, Tiffin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Leo Bohring, Port Clinton; Raymond Bohring,
Bloomdale; and a sister, Edna Sliffe, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dale Couch;
two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Floyd
and Dale Bohring; and two sisters, Chlo Shaull and Mildred
Pranwant.
Mrs. Swinehart retired in 1986 from RCA, Findlay,
after 25 years.
She attended Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church
of God and was a member of American Legion Post 354 and
Moose Lodge 1567.

Douglas E. Schmuck, 44, of 125 Midvale Terrace, Sebestian,
Fla.,, died 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Kindred
Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1957, in Tiffin, to Donald
E. and Betty I. (Shambaugh) Schmuck. On July 25, 1987,
he married Tami M. (Shellenberg) Schmuck. She survives
in Florida.
Other survivors include, his father, Donald Schmuck;
a daughter, Gretchen Schmuck of Bucyrus; a brother,
Gary E. Schmuck of Forest; four nieces and three nephews'
a great-niece and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Schmuck
of Tiffin and a brother, Bradley.
Mr. Schmuck was a 1975 graduate of Upper Sandusky
High School. While in Ohio, he worked at Atlas Crankshaft
in Fostoria, the U.A.P., in Forest and Cooper Tire in
Findlay. In Florida, he worked for eight years as a
corrections officer for the Indian River Co. Sheriff
Dept. and for the past three years as a parts deliveryman
for Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach, Florida.
He enjoyed spending time on his computer, doing lawn
work, boating, carpentry and wood working, telling jokes,
cooking out at the annual Christmas party in Florida,
and being a Michigan Wolverine fan. In earlier
life, he enjoyed his motorcycle and his 1977 black Corvette.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bringman
Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the
Rev. Joseph Searfoss officiating. Burial will be in
Wharton Richland Union Cemetery in Wharton.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home.

Frances M. Smith, 75, of Sandusky, died 6:30 a.m.
Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at St. John's Westshore Hospital
in Westlake.
She was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Albany, Ind., to the
late John Eugene and Eunice (Gettys) Harper. Her husband,
Charles Smith, died in 1990.
Surviving are: three sons, Kenneth Smith of Loraine,
Greg Smith of Fostoria and Jeff Smith of Sandusky; a
daughter, Wendy Pilkenton of Huron; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Toft Funeral
Home in Sandusky. Burial will be Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday until the time
of the service at the funeral home.

BRENDA K.

Brenda K. Swisher-Shaull, 49, of Fostoria.

Mrs. Swisher-Shaull died Wednesday morning,
July 10, 2002, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born June 14, 1953, in Fremont to
Owen H. and Cleo V. (Orndorff) Peer.
Surviving are four daughters, Kristye Swisher,
Findlay; and Amy Woodland, Rachel Dunfee and Sarah
Dunfee, all of Fostoria; a son, Jason Swisher
of Fostoria; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and
a sister.
Mrs. Swisher-Shaull was an attendent at
Clark Service Station, Fostoria.
She was a social member of AMVETS, Fostoria.
She was a 1971 graduate of Fremont Ross
High School.

RALPH T.
Ralph T. Stark, 87, of 18815 SR 12, Arcadia,
also formerly of Fostoria and Ridgecrest, La., died
Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 18, 1915, in Carey to Theodore
P. and Mary Jane (Feasel) Stark. On March 1, 1941,
he married Gertrude M. (Girdham) Stark in Greenville,
Ohio. She died on Nov. 3, 1993.
Other survivors include: a son, Leonard R. Stark
of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Sally (Gordon)
Riser of Fostoria; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren;
a brother James D. Stark of Risingsun and a sister,
Hazel Coppler-Rowles of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers,
Cecil Stark, Aloys Stark, Theodore Stark Jr. and
Robert Stark; six sisters, Cinderella Fox, Genevieve
Johnson-Jordan, Rosemary Kovach, Protase Fox, Gervase
Stark and Rita Mae Murnen.
Mr. Stark retired in 1977, after 36 years at
Union Carbide, (now National Electric Carbon) in
Fostoria. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army Air
Force during WWII, serving in the South Pacific
from April 1943 - December 1945. He was a
member of the Eagles Aerie 430, Loyal Order of the
Moose 1567, FV.F.W. Post 421, American Legion Post
73, all of Fostoria; and the Disabled American Veterans
Chapter 43 of Findlay.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20
at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria, with
the Rev. David Bringman officiating. Burial will
be in Arcadia Cemetery with military graveside rites
conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at
the funeral home.

LOUISE C.
Louise C. Swartz, 74, of High Street, Bellevue,
died Friday, July 26, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Bellevue to
Samuel and Mildred (Kudro) Tuttamore. They are
deceased.
She married Robert L. Swartz July 26, 1946.
He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Michael
of Toledo and David of Ashland; three daughters,
Patricia Swartz of Fostoria, Mary Schiwitz of
North Fairfield, and Debra Rister of Bellevue;
eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and
a brother, David Tuttamore of Bellevue.

29, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church,
Bellevue, with interment in Bellevue Catholic
Cemetery.

LEIPSIC -- A funeral Mass for John
V. Schroeder, 69, of Leipsic, will be celebrated
at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church,
Leipsic, the Rev. John Joseph officiating. Burial
will be in the parish cemetery, with military
rites by local veterans organizations.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m.
today and from 9 a.m. until services Friday
at Love Funeral Home, Leipsic, where a
scripture service will be held at 8:45 p.m.

Mr. Schroeder died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday,
Aug. 6, 2002, at SCCI, Lima.
He was born Jan. 1, 1933, in Leipsic
to Julius and Agnes (Niese) Schroeder. He married
Carol L. Recker on April 7, 1956, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Keith
of Leipsic; Kevin of McComb; four daughters,
Mrs. Stu (Tina) Beall, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Tim
(Cindy) Meyers and Mrs. Denny (Pam) Maag, both
of Fostoria; Mrs. Mitch (Jule Ann) Hiegel, Leipsic;
18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Mary Schroeder; and two sisters, Jeanette Stechschulte
and Angie Odenweller.
Mr. Schroeder retired from SCM, Gainesville,
Ga., and had worked at the former Libby-McNeil-Libby,
Leipsic.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church.

Walter P. Schumaker, 88, of Good Shepherd
Home in Fostoria, died 11:20 a.m. Sunday,
Aug. 11, 2002, in Good Shepherd Home.
He was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Ottawa to
the late John and Anna (Maas) Schumaker. On
Sept. 26, 1934, he married Irene K. (Hark)
Schumaker in Kalida. She died Dec. 2, 1984.
Surviving are: three sons, Verne Schumaker
of California, Norman Schumaker and Gary Schumaker,
both of Fostoria; 11 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren; four step-sons, Edwin
Boff of Gibsonburg, Donald Boff of Fostoria,
Thomas Boff of Indianapolis, Ind. and John
Boff of Weaverville, NC; five step-daughters,
Donna Jean Sanders of Shelby, Mrs. Darene
Harden of Port Clinton, Mrs. Geraldine Borer
of Tiffin, Mrs. Suellen Decker of Arcadia
and Patricia Miller of Clyde; 22 step-great-grandchildren
and a step-great-great-grandson.

JAMES
James Thomas Sr. passed away at his home
in Steilacoom, Wash., after a long bout
with cancer. His wife Carol and their three
puppies were at his side.
He was born May 16, 1932, in Fostoria
to Ralph and Maude (Ringle) Thomas.
Surviving are: his wife Carol Thomas
of Steilacoom, Wash.; a son, Jonathon Thomas
of Tiffin; two brothers, Dave and Albert
Thomas; a sister, Bertha Rowe of Fostoria;
a sister-in-law, Phyliss Humes of Green
Springs and a special niece and nephew,
Bonnie and Ronald Thomas of Fostoria; six
stepsons, Larry, Richard, Robert, Donald,
Michael and James Fillhart and many grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first
wife, Carol J. Thomas, a son, James Thomas
and a daughter, Kathryn Richenbach.
Mr. Thomas retired from Atlas Crankshaft
in Fostoria. He also retired from the U.S.
Army in January 1969. He was a lifetime
member of the American Legion in Fostoria
and the Eagles for many years.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug.
17, at the Christ Church of Tiffin. Burial
will be in Bascom. Refreshments will be
served at the Sportsmans Hall, Fostoria
following the service.

FOSTORIA -- Mary Catherine Schroeder,
80, formerly of 354 W. Fremont St., Fostoria,
died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug.
15, 2002, at Winebrenner Village, Findlay.
She was born July 5, 1922, in
Fostoria to John and Mary (Parsh) Droll.
She married Martin F.
Schroeder on July 5, 1952, at St.
Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and
he died Sept. 27, 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
John (Christine) Keagler, Oregon; three
grandchildren; and three sisters,
Florence Droll and Mrs. Don (Margaret)
Schetter, both of Fostoria; and Mrs. Ron
(Emma) Sprankle, Findlay.
She was preceded in death by
six brothers, Albert, Francis, Edward,
John, Clarence and Willis Droll;
and two sisters, Eleanor McGee and Josephine
Droll.
Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Wendelin
Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at
the church. Burial will be in the
parish cemetery.

Theodore "Ted" Smith, 87, of Kirkwood
Court, Findlay, died 3:12 p.m. at Blanchard
Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.
He was born Feb. 3, 1915, in Fostoria
to John and Florence (Duffey) Smith.
He married Florence (Alley) Smith in
Fostoria. She preceded him in death
in 1996.
Surviving are: five sons, Bud Smith
of Florida, Don Smith of West Virginia,
Joe Smith of Dunkirk, Sam Smith of Big
Rapids, Mich., Doug Smith of Findlay;
three daughters, Diane Roberts of Van
Buren, Pam Pritchard of Carrol, Mo.
and Sandra Flowers of Michigan; a sister,
Margaret Shaver of Fostoria; 22 grandchildren
and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was a WW II, U.S. Army
veteran.

Mrs. Saltzman died Friday
afternoon, Aug. 23, 2002, at Jellico
(Tenn.) Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 25, 1918,
in Findlay to Parl C. and Estella
M. (Bash) Jolliff. She married Dale
Davidson in 1959, and he died Sept.
29, 1982. She later married Joseph
Saltzman on Dec. 3, 2001, and
he survives in Vanlue.
Also surviving are four

Paul Richard Schafer, 85, of
St. Francis Avenue, formerly of
46 Grace St., Tiffin, died Thursday,
Sept. 5, 2002, in St. Francis Home.
He was born May 16, 1917, in
Tiffin, to the late Otto John and
Bertha Clara (Frederick) Schafer.
He never married.
He is survived by his sisters,
Mrs. Lawrence (Helen) Miller of
Fostoria, Mrs. Charles (Margaret)
King Sr. of Attica, Mrs.Robert (Agnes
Elizabeth "Betty") Mohler of Moab,
Utah, Mrs. Owen (Drusilla) Shutt
and Mrs. Clarence (Iris) Arter,
both ofTiffin; and sister-in-law,
Mildred Slife of Navarre, Ohio.
A brother, William Carl Schafer
and a sister, Mary Katherine Erchenbrecher
are deceased.
Mr. Schafer was a 1935 graduate
of Columbian High School. In 1936
he entered the Civilian Conservation
Corps at Ft. Knoxand was shipped
to Superior, Mont. In 1942, he entered
the army serving in the South Pacific.
In 1950, Paul graduated fromHeidelberg
College with a BA and in l952 received
an MA in history and teaching from
Ohio State. He was manager
of S.S. Kresges and retired in l980
after 28 years as a purchasing agent
for General Electric. He was one
of the founders of the Seneca County
Coin Club and walked five and a
half miles daily until his late
70s. He was a member of St.
Mary Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be at 10
a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, in St. Mary
Catholic Church, with the Msgr Edward
Dunn as celebrant.The rosary will
be prayed at 9:45 a.m. Saturday
at the church. Burial will be in
St. Mary Cemetery, with military
graveside services conducted by
the United Veterans Council.

9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.
27, 2002, in St. Francis Home,
Tiffin.
She was born April 2, 1926,
in Alvada, to the late Michael
and Emma (Hammer) Frankart.
On Feb. 7, 1948, in Alvada,
she married Victor Smith,
who survives.
Other survivors include:
five sons, Michael (Mary)
Smith and Victor (Jean) Smith
Jr., both of Tiffin, Jerry
Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Kevin
(Roxanne) Smith of Zionsville,
IN and Steven (Leslie) Smith
of Republic; a daughter, Mary
(Daniel) Reimer of Tiffin;
18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren;
a brother, Paul Frankart of
Fostoria; and two sisters,
Christina LaFountaine and
Corrine(Paul) Williams, both
of Fostoria.
A son, Robert Joseph Smith;
two brothers, Francis and
Alfred Frankart and a sister,
Mary Williams, also are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Smith
was a member of St. Aloysius
Catholic Church, Republic,
its Rosary Altar Society and
Prayer Group. She also was
a member of the Seneca County
Farm Women's Club and Senior
Citizens of Republic Share
and Care.
A funeral Mass will be
at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2,
in St. Aloysius Catholic Church,
Republic, with the Rev. Joseph
Szybka as celebrant. The rosary
will be recited at the church
at 9:45 a.m. Monday. Burial
will be in St. Joseph Catholic
Cemetery, Tiffin.
Visitation is 1-4 and 6-8
p.m. Sunday at Hannay-Traunero

Axel Anthony Stansbery
died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002,
in St. Vincent Mercy Medical
Center, Toledo.
He was born Tuesday, Nov.
26, 2002, in Toledo to Steven
Stansbery and Kara Buskirk
of Tiffin.
Other survivors include:

Buskirk of Fostoria; maternal
grandmother, Sherrie Everetts
of Tiffin; maternal
step-grandfather, Lee Everetts
of Tiffin; paternal grandmother,

services at 1:30 p.m. today
at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery
(Egberts), Tiffin.

SMELSER,
HARRY E.
Harry E. Smelser,
75, of Township Road 34, Fostoria,
died at 2:30 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 2, 2002, at his
residence.
He was born July
12, 1927 in Bettsville to
William A. and Mary Eva (Doran)
Smelser. He married Verna
J. Steiner on Dec. 27, 1950,
and she survives.
Also surviving are
two sons, Steve of Walbridge;
and Larry of Fostoria; three
daughters, Donna and
Carla Smelser and April Hartman,
all of Fostoria; eight grandchildren;
and two brothers, James of
Sandusky; and William of Pleasanton,
Texas.
He was preceded
in death by a sister, Agnes
Parrish.
Mr. Smelser retired
in 1989 as a tool grinder
at Airfoil Textron after 35
years.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II.
He graduated from
Hopewell-Loudon High School
He was a member
of AMVETS and Eagles.
A memorial service
will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, the
Rev. Thomas Rasey officiating.

WILLIS C.
Former Fostoria
Willis C. Smith, 65, of Ottawa
Lake, Mich., died Sunday, Dec.
8, 2002, at his residence.
William was born in rural
Tiffin on Oct. 9, 1937, to
Dale E. and Dorothy (Bland)
Smith, and after his father's
death in 1939, was also raised
by his maternal uncle, Harry
T. Bland.
Following graduation from
Fostoria High School, Willis
served his country in the
U.S. Air Force.
He was employed for 26
years at St.Vincent's Medical
Center in Toledo, and for
two years at North American
Science Associates in Northwood,
followed by a full-time career
as a photography artist, public
speaker and writer. He also
gained fame as one of only
two known photographers of
the Christ-like image which
appeared on a Fostoria oil
tank in 1986.
Willis married Suzanne
M. Prusakiewicz, in Toledo,
on April 16, 1966. She died
Aug. 8, 1992. Also preceding
him in death are his parents,
son Michael C. Smith and uncle
Harry Bland.
Surviving are his brother,
Eugene (Pat) Smith of Tiffin,
aunt Helen, nieces, Jessica
and Gena, and nephew Delbert

Fox. She married George
W. Stainbrook on April
14, 1937, in Fostoria, and
he died Feb. 26, 1991.
Surviving are
a son, James L. of Bowling
Green; three grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by three sisters,
Lula Zuern, Clara Siegchrist
and Bessie Clouse; a brother,
Carl Fox.
Mrs. Stainbrook
was a cafeteria worker at
Fostoria Community Schools.
She was a member
of Hope Lutheran Church,
Fostoria, and its Hope 60
Club and Serving Circle;
Shepherd Center, Fostoria;
Farm Bureau Council; and
West Millgrove Fire Auxiliary.
She also was a 4-H
advisor.

Joanne Sprout on
Dec. 31, 1976 at First
Presbyterian Church, and
she survives.

JoAnn F. Sabbagh,
Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter,

taught at Owens Community
College for 10 years.
He was a graduate
of Toledo Woodward High
School and attended Purdue
University, Henry Ford
Community College, University
of Toledo, University
of Michigan and Ohio State
University.
He was in the
military for 35 years,
having served in the U.S.
Army, Marine Corps, Navy,
regular reserves
and National Guard, and
in the U.S. Air Force
during the Korean War.
Mr. Sabbagh
was an elder and deacon
at First Presbyterian
Church, and was a member
of Fostoria Lodge
288, Garfield Chapter
150, Fostoria Council
90, Fostoria Commandery
62, Fostoria Chapter 94
OES, Retired Enlisted
Association and Tiffin
DAV. He was a past treasurer
of Fostoria Council of
Christian Education.
