Betty D. Hatfield, 70, of Fostoria, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan.
6, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
She was born May 14, 1931, in Fostoria to Bevon G. and Delilah
E. (McGough) Painter. Both are deceased. She married Charles W.
Hatfield on Oct. 7, 1950, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. He survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: three sons, Dr. Jeffrey Hatfield of Marysville,
and Timothy and Gregory Hatfield, both of Fostoria; a brother,
Thomas C. Painter of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Ronald E. (Sally
Jo) Harden of Fostoria; a step-sister, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Brown
of Carey; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First
Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest
Cemetery near Arcadia.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home in Fostoria.
Hunt, Harold
Funeral services for Harold W. Hunt, 76, of Allen Avenue,
will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral
Home, the Rev. Michael L. Thompson officiating. Burial will
be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, with military rites
by Hancock Veterans Memorial Squad.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the
funeral home.
Mr. Hunt died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Winebrenner
Schaefer Care Center.
He was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Fostoria to Laurence Mason
and Jennie (Hazelton) Hunt. He married Juanita Knepper on
Oct. 13, 1946, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sanna C. Talley, Fostoria;
Shawn Cook, McComb; a son, Stephen of Fostoria; eight grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren;
a sister, Mrs. Clare (Velma) Hanley, Fostoria; and a brother,
Cecil Mason, address unknown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Pauline Hall.
Mr. Hunt retired as a packer set-up from Bendix Corp. (now
Honeywell) in Fostoria.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a
gunner on the USS Saratoga. He also served with an Army Reserve
unit in Kenton.
He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and
a former member of VFW Post 5645.

Herman, Kenneth
FOSTORIA -- Kenneth Paul Herman Sr., 83, of
424 Burnham Drive, Fostoria, died Sunday morning, Jan. 13,
2002, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Sandusky to
John "Doc" and Lucille (Ott) Herman. He married Genevieve
E. Davis on April 25, 1942, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth E. and
James, both of Fostoria; Thomas Paul of Alvada; Donald J.
of Bucyrus; two daughters, Mrs. Jere (Kathleen) Witt, Martin;
Mrs. Henry (Janine) Schultz, Fostoria; 18 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Peggy Sullivan, Crystal
Lake, Ill.; and Dorothy Brown, Toledo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward.
Mr. Herman retired after 42 years as a teacher,
administrator and coach for St. Wendelin School System.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World
War II.
He was named Ohio Football Coach of the Year
in 1961-62 and was inducted into Sandusky St. Mary's Basketball
Hall of Fame.
Mr. Herman was a 1937 graduate of Sandusky
St. Mary's High School, where he was a member of the 1936
state championship basketball team. He was a graduate of DeSales
College, Toledo.
He was a member of American Legion Post 73
and St. Wendelin Catholic Church, both of Fostoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the
parish cemetery, with military rites by United Veterans of
Fostoria.
Visitation will be held from 2-9 p.m. Thursday
at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a rosary will be
recited at 8:30 p.m. A rosary also will be recited at 10 a.m.
Friday at the church.

Jane C. Hare, 80, of 1000 Independence Rd., Fostoria, Ohio
and formerly of Cambridge, Ohio, died at 6 p.m. Sunday Jan.
13, 2002, at the Independence House, Fostoria.
She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Cambridge, Ohio, to the late
Ebenezer J. and Cecile A. (Buckingham) Burris. On May 25,
1941, in Cambridge, she married Robert M. Hare. He died July
29, 1996.
Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Robert H. (Peggy) Hare
of Orlando, FL, Thomas R. (Carolyn) Hare of Fostoria, Ohio
and Edward J. (Nancy) Hare of Massillon, Ohio; a daughter,
Mrs. Dennis (Elizabeth J.) Gibbs of Casper, Wyo.; two brothers,
Robert H. and Donald F. Burris, both of Cambridge, Ohio; eight
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer E.,
Walter A. and Joseph D. Burris; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth
Curtis.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hare, graduated in 1938 from Cambridge
High School. She was a member of Tops Club and Faith United
Methodist Church, both of Cambridge and attended Wesley United
Methodist Church, Fostoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 18, at the
Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 139 S. 9th St., Cambridge, Ohio,
with the Rev. Mick Foster officiating. Interment will be in
Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, Ohio.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the Mann-Hare Funeral
Home, Fostoria and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Thorn-Black

Mary Helen Jones, 87, of 725 Columbus Ave, Fostoria, died
at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Good Shepherd Home,
Fostoria. She was born May 15, 1914, in Lorain to the late
Brice and Iva (Blake) Kissell. She married Edward L. Buttermore.
He preceded her in death. On Feb. 23, 1979, she married Ormal
D. Jones in Fostoria. He died Sept. 29,1993.
She is survived by two sons: John Steven Buttermore of Bradenton,
Fla., and Gregg Buttermore of Fostoria.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home
with Rev. Alonzo Wise officiating.
Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. prior to services Friday at Mann-Hare

Hellriegel, Charles F.
Charles F. Hellriegel, 81, of 5614 N. CR 25, Fostoria, died
at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, at Riverside Methodist
Hospital, Columbus. He was born March 11, 1920, to the late
William and Anna (Scharf) Hellriegel. In Waveland, Ind., Jan.
21, 1962, he married Mabel I. Sheley. She survives in Fostoria.
He is also survived by a brother, Robert W. (Marian) Hellriegel
of Findlay.
Mr. Hellriegel was a World War II Army veteran.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Home,
Covington, Ind. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington,
with military graveside rites conducted.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria,

Carl Albert Hammer, 86, of 1021 N. Loudon TR 57, Fostoria,
died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in St. Catherines
Care Center, Fostoria. He was born June 6, 1915, in Fostoria
to Charles M. and Josephine (Droll) Hammer, both of whom are
deceased. He married Alice M. Kuhn at St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Tiffin, on Oct. 20, 1951, and she survives.
He is also survived by: a son, Daniel Carl Hammer of New
Riegel; four daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Kathleen) Cobb of Sachse,
Texas, Mrs. Sinclair (Donna Jean) Hugh of Lutz, Fla., Mrs.
Jeffery (Lisa) Lieske of Helena and Mrs. William (Denise)
Hoffman of New Concord; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren
and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; three brothers,
Alvin "Sam", Donald and Clair "Bill" Hammer; and a sister,
Wilma Storey.
Mr. Hammer was a lifelong Seneca County farmer who also
worked 35 years as a Loudon Twp. employee before retiring.
He was an avid gardener, member of the St. Wendelin Catholic
Church in Fostoria and belonged to the New Riegel American
Legion.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and flew 35
battle missions. His valor was decorated with the Distinguished
Flying Cross, three Bronze Oak clusters and three Bronze Stars.
The Rosary will be recited 10 a.m. Thursday followed by
the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wendelin
Catholic Church, Fostoria. New Riegel American Legion will
conduct military funeral rites.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Hoening
Funeral Home, Fostoria. There will be a Christian Wake service
at 8:30 p.m. with an American Legion memorial service following.

Louis A. Hagen, 80, formerly of Van Buren Street, Fostoria,
died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care
Center, Fostoria.
He was born June 28, 1921 in Hamler to Albert and Minnie
(Baden) Hagen. He married Luella Joseph on Nov. 21, 1942,
and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs.
Charles (Lynn) Willett, Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren;
a brother, Raymond of Hamler; and three sisters, Esther Sonnenberg,
Hamler; Arlene Rathge, Sylvania; and Edna Conley, St. Louis,
Mo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold; and a sister,
Lavina Asmus.
Mr. Hagen retired in 1979 as a foreman from Allied Signal,
now Honeywell, after more than 35 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a 1939 graduate of Hamler High School.
Mr. Hagen was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria,
where he was a deacon and past president of Hope Lutheran
Brotherhood. He was past president of Lakota Athletic and
Music Boosters, former Jackson Township zoning inspector.
He was a former coach of Fostoria junior baseball and woman's
softball teams.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at
Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Larry Knigga
officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of
Findlay, with military rites by Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria.

Miriam C. "Mickey" Harden, 80, a resident of Good
Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria,
died at 2:10 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the nursing home.
She was born July 29, 1921, in Bascom to Harry and Florence
(McHaffie) Sager.
Surviving are a son, James of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; a daughter,
Jeanette Beamer, Port Clinton; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
and a brother, Harry Sager, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kovach.
Mrs. Harden retired in 1988 from Autolite (now Honeywell)
in Fostoria after 27 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Fostoria.
She was a 1940 graduate of Cygnet High School.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Chaplain Jim Sampson officiating.

Hazel M. Hindmon, 97, formerly of Walnut Street, Fostoria,
died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday,
March 13, 2002, at Independence House, Fostoria.
She was born Feb. 14, 1905, in Fostoria to Everett and Anna
(Hooper) Hindmon.
Surviving are five nieces, Mary Ann Cook-Peyton, Karen Cook-Harman,
Dea Jo Wagner-Zimmerman, all of Fostoria; Josephine Wagner-Martin,
Dayton; Charlene Wagner-Paquelet, Massillon.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Frederick
and John Hindmon; and four sisters, Etta May Wagner, Clara
Cook, and Ruth and Helen Hindmon.
Miss Hindmon retired in 1962 from Union Carbide, Fostoria,
now National Electric Carbon, after more than 35 years.
She was a 1924 graduate of Fostoria High School.
She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria;
AARP; a 75-year member of American Legion Post 73 Ladies Auxiliary;
and a former member of Fostoria Community Hospital Association.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Terry Steinhauer officiating.
Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Marjorie "Midge" L. Henry, 74, of TR 116, Fostoria,
died at 5:30 a.m. at her grandson's house in Tiffin. She was
born Jan. 12, 1928, near Tiffin to William E. and Millie E.
(Woodruff)Luzader. She married Chester Henryin Marion, Nov.
3, 1967. He died Dec. 13, 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Vern
and Dale Luzader; and a sister, Eileen Whithed.
Survivors include: a step-son Ronald Henry of Fostoria; two
step-daughters Mrs. Arthur (Barbara) Ebright of California
and Sharon Henry of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Henry retired from Airfoil Textron, Fostoria, in 1988
after 19 years of employment. Prior to that she had worked
at Bersted Manufacturing, and as a matron with the Fostoria
City Schools. She was a member of the Dillon Road Baptist
Church, Fostoria, and former president, secretary and treasurer
of the Fostoria Saddle Club.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrold-Floriana
Funeral Home, Fostoria, with burial in Fountain Cemetery,
Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral

He was born Feb. 18, 1949, in Fostoria to Floyd B. "Ben"
and Tillie Patricia (Rathburn) Holeman. He married Elona J.
Holeman on July 21, 1998, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Clifford L. of Fostoria; two daughters,
Mrs. Brian (Angela) Haudenshild and Louella Holeman, both
of Fostoria; four stepsons, Ernest Isaac, Sandusky; Joe Fogle,
Findlay; Craig Fogle, Kenton; Dennis Mitchell, Las Vegas;
five stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert (Lori) Harris, Bloomdale;
Kimberly Isaac, Gibsonburg; Sue Ann Isaac, Clyde; Susan Schieble
and Kathi Degollado, both of Fostoria; eight grandchildren;
20 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother,
Clifford G. of Perrysburg; and a sister, Dianna Reichenbach,
Wayne.
Mr. Holeman retired in 1998 from Daimler-Chrysler Corp., Perrysburg,
after 28 years. He currently was a driver for SCAT, a transportation
organization for senior citizens in Seneca County.
He was a 1968 graduate of Elmwood High School.
He was a member of AMVETS Post 69, VFW Post 421, American
Legion Post 73, Moose, Eagles and Honor Guard, all of Fostoria.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Union, S.C. to Walter and Martha
(Sims) Epps. She married Albert Jeter, and he preceded her
in death. She then married Thomas Jones in 1977, and he preceded
her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Al "Bo" Jeter, Cleveland;
Douglas Sipe, Fostoria; four daughters, Jimmie
"Mamie" Hunter, Mrs. Manny (Cleva) Sanchez, Mrs.
Derrick (Tonee) Morant, all of Fostoria; Mrs. Eric (Janet)
Johnson, St. Paul, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Walter Jeter; a
brother, Walter Epps Jr.; a sister, Clara Browning.
Mrs. Jones retired as an inspector at General Electric.

(Conant) Harpley. He married Edith M. Kyle on Oct. 30, 1937,
and she died March 9, 1994.

daughters, Mrs. John (Patricia) MacTavish, Spring Lake, Mich.;
Mrs. Tom (Penelope) Justice, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Daniel
and Paul; and three sisters, Ida Emerson, Edna Deinzer and
Emily Dixey.
Mr. Harpley retired in 1972 as a machinist at Ex-Cello Corp.,
Fostoria.
He was a 1927 graduate of Senn High School in Chicago, Ill.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria.

Kenneth W. Jarrell, 52, of Dunkirk, died at 8 a.m. Sunday,

He was born Sept. 18, 1949, in Harrod to Wesley A. and Louise
(Mullins) Jarrell. He married Shirley Jean Wright Ruffing,
and they were divorced. She survives in Carey.
Also surviving are a son, Tomie of Findlay; a daughter, Sherrie
Jarrell, Findlay; a stepdaughter, Joyce Fizer, Clearwater,
Fla.; three grandchildren; four brothers, Rev. Forest Edward
of Lima; James Douglas of Bucyrus; Bucky Ray of Columbus;
Rev. George Haskell of Dunkirk; and three sisters, Brenda
Sue Watkins, Kenton; Mrs. Robert (Sharlene) Sipe, Nevada;
and Alice Mae Jarrell, Findlay.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Jarrell.
Mr. Jarrell was a machinist in Fostoria.
He was a member of Ada VFW Post 9381, Findlay DAV, and Emergency
Corps., Fostoria.

Charles Eugene Hossler, 70, 2193 N. CR 15, Tiffin, died at
4:51 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Seneca County, to the late James
Guy and Doris (Rathburn) Hossler. On May 12, 1956, in St.
Joseph Rectory, Tiffin, he married Marilyn G. Thom. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Dan (Sue) Hossler of Shelby
and Tim (Rose) Hossler of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters,
Mrs. Lanny (Deb) Morrow and Suzette Hossler, both of Tiffin;
five brothers, Eldon, Melvin Richard and LeRoy Hossler, all
of Tiffin, and Ray and George Hossler, both of Fostoria; two
sisters, Shirley Platt of Tiffin and Mrs. Ralph (Beverly)
Mitchel of Fostoria, eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A brother, James Hossler, and a sister, Lois Shoup, also are
deceased.
Mr. Hossler, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the
Basic Quarter Century Club, worked at the Basic for 30 years
as a carpenter, retiring in 1985. He served his country in
the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, in St.
Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James K. Say officiating.
The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral
Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where

Annette Kay Johnson, 60, of 512 S. Union St., Fostoria, died
at 6:35 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2002 at Toledo Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1941 in Risingsun to Cloman C. and Esther (Hoffnauer)
Stein, both deceased. On Jan. 19, 1963 she married Richard
E. Johnson at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and
he survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Richard E. Johnson, Jr. of
Fostoria; a daughter, Kimberlee A. Gosche of Orlando, Fla.;
two brothers, Duane Correll of Cincinnati, and Larry Correll
of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Luann Monroe of Delphos; a
step-father, David Stein of Lake St. Mary's, Ohio; and four
grandchildren.

HUNTER, WILLIAM
William Edward Hunter, 70, of 412 W. Ridge Drive, Fostoria,
died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday,
April 30, 2002, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Carey to Don G. and Mildred
(Pahl) Hunter. He married Irene M. McKinnon on July 14, 1956,
at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, and she survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Michael S. and Daniel S., both
of Fostoria; Don G. of Tiffin; Eric W. of Oregon; a daughter,
Laura A. Hunter, New York; 10 grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren;
a brother, Richard D. of Roswell, Ga.; three sisters, Beverly
Burks, Tiffin; Phyllis Frederick, Fort Myers, Fla.; Jo Lynn
Benjamin, Findlay.
He was preceded by a brother, Robert.
Mr. Hunter retired in 1993 as a rural mail carrier for the
U.S. Postal Service, Fostoria, after 30 years. He also coached
wrestling at St. Wendelin School, Fostoria.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, VFW Post
421, Elks Lodge 935, and 4th degree knight of Columbus Father
Kirsch Assembly 845, all of Fostoria; and American Legion
Post 73. He was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus Council 1197,
having served as deputy grand knight; and was named Big Brother
of the Year in 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery,
with military rites by United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at
Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service
will be held at 8:30 p.m., and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus

He was born Dec. 28, 1922, in Bradner to Arthur
and Eda (Weng) Henline. He married Thelma Damschroder on Feb.
6, 1947, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rick (Pamela
K.) Van Mooy, North Baltimore; Mrs. Rod (Susan J.) Echelberry,
Fostoria; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers,
Lloyd, Kenneth and Luther, all of Pemberville; and a
sister, Margaret Bursiek, Gibsonburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Willard;
and a sister, Laurene Buck.
Mr. Henline was a maintenance man at Hope Lutheran
Church. He retired in 1989 from Seneca Lumber, Fostoria, after
10 years. He owned and operated Forest Supermarket from 1967-79,
and had worked at Whitefront Market in Forest and Fostoria
from 1946-67.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving
as radioman Third Class on LST in the Pacific Theater.
He was a 1940 graduate of Pemberville High School.
He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, its Hope
60 Club and Lutheran Brotherhood 8751, and formerly was on
the church council. He was a member, past commander, agitate
and trustee of Earl Foust American Legion Post 73, Fostoria;
and a member of Risingsun American Legion.

92, of Woodland Avenue, Fremont, and formerly of Fostoria,

Mrs. Hilkens died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, June 21,

She was born Dec. 10, 1909, in New Straitsville
to Charles and Susan (Babbs) McClellan. She married Raymond
Lohr on Feb. 3, 1933, in Fostoria, and he preceded her in
death. She later married William J. Hilkens on April 10,
1944, in Fostoria, and he died Dec. 2, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Regina)
Wilson, Norwalk; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sheldon,
Herbert and Guy McClellan; and three sisters, Maude Baker,
Bessie Hobart and Alice Whitlach.
Mrs. Hilkens was a homemaker.
She was a member of Fostoria First Church of the
Nazarene.

She was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Hancock County

Hellriegel on Aug. 31, 1957 in Fostoria, and he survives.
Also surviving is a brother, Loren Helfer, Toledo.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean
Baughman and Louise Copely.
Mrs. Hellriegel worked as a secretary at Ford
Motor Co. and the Electric Autolite Co., Fostoria.
She was a volunteer at Chopin Hall in Findlay
and Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary, Fostoria.
Mrs. Hellriegel was a member of St. Andrew's
United Methodist Church, and a former member of the
Fostoria Women's Club. She had attended the University
of Findlay.

Myron, both of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna
Jean Ernst.
Mr. Hall was a postal carrier for the U.S.
Postal Service in Fostoria for 35 years.

Johnnie C. Hawk, 80, of West Street, Bascom, Ohio,
died at 7:55 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, in Fostoria
Community Hospital.
He was born June 10, 1922, in Seneca County to August
and Roma (Ward) Hawk. He first married Jessie "Delores"
McCullough on Aug. 29, 1942, in Fostoria; and she died
July 18, 1985. He then married Betty J. Hatfield on
Oct. 9, 1987, in Bascom.
Survivors include: his wife of Bascom; three daughters,
Mrs. Ross "Janet" Main of Fostoria, Mrs. John "Sandy"
Earl of Tiffin, and Mrs. Steve "Pam" Depinet of Fostoria;
eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers,
Charles, Warren and Harry Hawk Sr.; and two sisters,
Mabel Nighswander and Minnie Smiley.
He retired in 1987 from San Lan Landfill and was
owner and operator of Hawk Tree Trimming Service until
1998. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a member
of the Bascom United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002,
in Bascom United Methodist Church in Bascom, Ohio, with
the Rev. Hal Keeton and the Rev. Ivan Schwenn officiating.

Jr. They survive in Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Brian.

married Emery Hedrick in August

Ilene J. Haver, 71, of Betty Lane, Fostoria,

She was born Sept. 19, 1930, in North Baltimore
to Lawrence and Irene E. (Miller) Lindenman.
On June 28, 1952, she married Laurence Haver
in Fostoria.
Surviving are: her husband, Laurence Haver
of Fostoria; a son, Scott Haver of Fostoria;
a daughter, Mrs. Suzanne (Robert) Speelman
of Findlay; a sister, Mrs. Jane (Nelson) Hazeltine

She was preceded in death by her parents,
Lawrence and Irene Lindenman.
Mrs. Haver retired in 1991 as a kindergarten
teacher for the Fostoria City Schools, with
30 years of service. She was a 1948 graduate
of Fostoria High School and a l952 graduate
of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor
of Science in education. She was a member
of WEsley United Methodist Church, United
Methodist Women, Alpha Delta Kappa.
Mrs. Haver was named Teacher of the Year in
1984 and became the first recipient of the
H.L. Ford Excellence in Education Award.
She volunteered with the "Right to Read" Program
and Meals on Wheels in Fostoria and was also
a Fostoria Redmen Booster

Clarence L. "Jakie" Jacob, 85, of VanBuren

He was born April 15, 1917, in Fostoria
to Earl and Esther (Nick) Jacob. On July
13, 1940, he married Jean (Conklin) Jacob
in Fostoria. She survives in Fostoria.

Mr. Jacob retired in 1986 as the auditor
for the city of Fostoria, with 23 years
of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran,
serving during World War II. He was
a 1935 graduate of Fostoria High School
and attended Ohio State University.
Mr. Jacob was a life member of local and
national committees of the American Red
Cross; Kaubish Memorial Library Board of
Trustees, Board member of Good Shepherd
Nursing Home; active with the City Planning
Commission; Fostoria Bureau of Concern;
Fostoria Republican Club; Fostoria Kiwanis
Club; past commander of the Fostoria American
Legion; past troop leader of the Boy Scouts
of America; past president of the Ohio Municipal
Financial League and was an avid coin collector
and wood worker.

Yellow Cab Taxi Service in Fostoria.

Lauren Elizabeth Walker; sisters,
Virginia Sussang and husband, Gene
of Weslaco and Barbara Ann Klopp
of Winterhaven, FL and a brother,
Robert R. Hill of Weslaco. Also
surviving him and numerous nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents and two brothers.
He served his country in the
United States Army during the Korean
Conflict reaching the rank of sergeant.
In 1961, he moved from Ohio to Donna
and later worked at Knapp Motor
and Sherry-Barbee Implement Co.
in Weslaco and owned and operated
the Humble Gas Station at the corner
of Missouri and Business 83 in Weslaco.
He and his wife purchased French's
Repair Service in 1965 and operated
it until the time of his death.
David was a member of the Donna
Masonic Lodge 1136 where he obtained
the prestigious position of Worshipable
Master and became a 32nd degree
Master Mason and was a member of
the Al Amin Shrine Temple of Corpus
Christi. As a member of the Weslaco
Elks Lodge 2057, he was elected
Exhaulted Ruler for three terms
and at the time of his death was
serving as secretary of the lodge.
For his devotion to the lodge, he
was awarded Elk of the Year in 1985.
He was also a member of the board
of directors of the Texas Elks Children's
Service Hospital, Octine, Texas,
and was elected as district vice
president of the Texas Elks Association
and served as the District Deputy
Grand Exhaulted Ruler for the Southern
District of Texas of the Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks. He
was also a member of the Weslaco
Noon Lions Club, the Terlingua American
Legion Post 10464, where he was
awarded a lifetime membership for
his dedication and also was a member
of the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at McCaleb
Funeral Home Chapel of Weslaco.
The Rev. Howard Bloomquist, pastor
of the First Christian Church of
Weslaco and the Weslaco Elks Lodge
2057 officiated. Interment followed
at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco,
Masonic graveside rites were conducted
by the Donna Masonic Lodge 1136.
Serving as pallbearers were Dennis
Eugene Hill, Jim Watson, Bob Watson,
Mark Watson, Tom Watson, Keene Moncus
and officers and members of the
Weslaco Elks Lodge 2057. Friends
who wish may make memorial contributions

She was born May 12, 1931, in
Carey to Virgil and Mary Leona (Frey)
Thompson. They are deceased. She
married Watson
O. "Bud" Harden Aug. 27, 1950, in
Fostoria. He survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two
sons, Terry D. of Fostoria, and
Harvey J. "Jay" of Cygnet; two daughters,
Diana Pitts of Fostoria, and Rexella
"Sis" Devylder of Defiance; eight
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
a great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren;
eight step-gret-grandchildren; a
brother, Norman "Bill" Thompson
of Findlay; and a stepbrother, Jack
Brubaker of Fostoria.

Betty Jane Haws, 82,
of 637 Davis St., died Sunday,
Oct. 6, 2002, at Winebrenner Extended
Care Facility.
She was born March
27, 1920, in Kalida to Carl F.
and C. Marie (Hutton) Stauffer.
She married Harold Ritter,
and they were divorced. She later
married Delmar Haws, and they
were divorced. They both
preceded her in death.
Surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. Robert (Dixie)
Myers, Mrs. Dennis (Bonnie) Yeager,
Mrs. John (Nancy) Shoop
and Mrs. Paul (Anna) Reusch; two
sons, Harold "Bud" Ritter and
Daniel Haws; 16 grandchildren;
27 great-grandchildren; three
brothers, Carl William Stauffer,
Fostoria; Gerald Stauffer,
Mission, Texas; James Stauffer,
Reston, Va.; and a sister, Mrs.
Arlo (Patricia) Miles.
She was preceded in
death by a daughter, Denise Pearson;
and two sisters, Frederick M.
Pugh and M. Joyce Sites.
Mrs. Haws was a retired
cook at several area restaurants,
including Carriage House, Lucky's,
Dog House/The Gathering
and Oler's.
She was a 1938 graduate
of Findlay High School.
She was a member of
Women of the Moose.
Funeral services will
be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Coldren-Crates
Funeral Home, the Rev. Alan
Schroeder officiating. Burial
will be private.

held from 5-8 p.m. today and from

Herman A. Dennis, 88, of
Burnham Drive, Fostoria, died
at 4:09 p.m. Thursday, Oct.
10, 2002 in St. Luke's Hospital
in Maumee. He was born Aug.
6, 1914 in Fostoria to Ansel
and Clara (Gobel) Dennis. He
first married Dorothy Rowles
in 1941 in Fostoria, she died
in 1983. He then married Wanda
Pelton-Crammer in Nov. 1985
in Fostoria, she died in 1993.
Surviving include: a step-son,
Larry Crammer of N.Y.; two step-daughters,
Mrs. Linda Hathaway of Bryan,
and Mrs. Lois Myers of Fostoria;
a brother, Joel Dennis-Basinger
of Fostoria; two sisters, Gladys
Dennis-Basinger of Fostoria,
and Anselia Regnier of Eclectic,
AL; seven step grandchildren
and six step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dennis was a U.S. Army
Veteran serving during WW II
and a recipient of the Purple
Heart.

Russell U. Jones,
94, a resident of St. Catherine's
Care Center, Fostoria, died
at 11:50 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002,
at the care center.
He was born Dec. 15,
1907, in Fostoria to Russell
and Hazel (Moore) Jones. He
married Marie Doll on
Aug. 29, 1932, and she died
Jan. 10, 1998.
Mr. Jones retired
in 1976 as manager of Ohio State
Liquor Store, Fostoria. He previously
owned and operated Jones
Recreation, Fostoria.
He was a member of
Fostoria Eagles and Senior Citizens.
He attended Fostoria
High School.

He was preceded in

Mr. Heinze retired
in 1985 from Union Carbide Corp.
(now National Electrical Carbon
Corp.), Fostoria, after 44 years.
He was a member of

American Legion Post 73, Eagles
Aerie 430 and Moose Lodge 1567,
all in Fostoria.
He was a U.S. Army
Air Corp veteran of World War
II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific
Theater.

veteran of World War II, where
he served aboard the USS Polaris.
Mr. Hughes received a Bronze
Star.
Funeral will be 11 a,m. Friday,
Nov. 22 at the Walton-Moore
Funeral Home in Sycamore, with
the Rev. Carl Angel and the
Rev. James Spurlock officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.

Kathryn E. Harrison, 102,
died 10:33 p.m. at Good Shepherd
Nursing Home in Fostoria, where
she was a resident.
She was born Aug. 9, 1900,
in Seneca County, to Irvin and
Alice (Wyer) Trumbo. She married
Ray W. Harrison on Sept. 12,
1917, in Hancock County.
He died Oct. 9, 1968.
Surviving are: two sons,
Royal and Frank Harrison, both
of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs.
Donald (Betty) Shaull of Tiffin;
six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; parents; a sister,
Florence Trumbo and a granddaughter,
Janet Schmidt.
Mrs. Harrison was a homemaker
and member of the Rehoboth United
Methodist Church in Fostoria.
She was a former member of Women's

United Methodist Woman of the
Church.

He was born June 5, 1926,

(Orwick) Hendricks who are deceased.
He married Cleora A. Coleman
Oct. 26, 1946, in St. Wendelin's
in Fostoria and she survives
in Fostoria.

great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by a stepfather, G.A.
Fountaine.
Mrs. Hillier was a
homemaker.
She was a 1921 graduate
of Fostoria High School and
attended Tiffin University.
She was a member of
Wesley United Methodist Church,
Fostoria Forum & Altrusa
Club and Toledo Weaver's
Guild.
