Kenneth P. Smith, 72, of 3274 W. TR 98,
New Riegel, died at his residence at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec.
31, 2000.
He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Seneca County,
to Albert and Martha (Welly) Smith. On June 11, 1955, in
St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Mary A. Bogner,
who survives.
Survivors also include: three sons, Mark
A., Gary L. and Greg P. Smith, all of New Riegel; two daughters,
Mrs. Daniel (Cindy) Holman and Mrs. Larry (Sandy) Bouillon,
both of New Riegel; three brothers, Carl Smith of Fostoria,
Richard Smith of Tiffin and Myron Smith of Sandusky; a sister,
Catherine Schalk of New Riegel; nine grandchildren and a
step-grandchild.
A half sister, Alice Seitz; and two brothers,
Alfred and Maurice, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Smith, a lifetime grain and livestock
farmer, was retired. He also had worked at the former Miller
Tile Yard in Bascom.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic
Church, New Riegel and a former member of the Bascom Elevator
Board of Directors.
He enjoyed attending farm auctions.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday
in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Scott Kramer
C.PP.S. and the Rev. Leonard Kistler C.PP.S., as concelebrants.
The rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the
church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday in the
Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Christian wake
service will take place at 4 p.m.

Sendelbach, Edna Marie

Edna Marie (Adelsperger) Sendelbach, 79,
39 Braden Court, died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001,
in the Autumnwood Care Center.
She was born July 22, 1921, in Seneca County,
to Burton and Callie (Sellers) Adelsperger. Her husband,
Robert Sendelbach Sr., whom she married July 29, 1944, in
St. Patrick Rectory, Bascom, survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Robert
C. Jr. and Donald Sendelbach, both of rural Tiffin; a brother,
Harold Adelsperger of Fostoria; five grandsons, two granddaughters
and three great-grandsons.
Also preceding her in death were a sister,
Ethel Shultz Smith and three brothers, Cecil, Russell and
Wilbur Adelsperger.
Mrs. Sendelbach, an avid bingo player, had
worked at Montgomery Wards and at the D of A Home. She was
a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
The Rev. Frank A. Murd will be the celebrant
at the 10 a.m. Thursday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic
Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45
a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Liberty
Township.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday
in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service
will take place at 7:45 p.m.

Word has been received of the death of
Harriette Thrailkill, formerly of Fostoria.
Thrailkill, 88, died Dec. 26, 2000 at
11:20 a.m. in Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Ill.
She was born Sept. 11, 1912 in Fostoria
to Clarence and Chloe (Mills) McClead. She married Paul
Thrailkill March 1, 1941 in Fostoria and he died March
30, 1987.
Surviving are a son, Sidney P. Thrailkill,
Galesburg; two daughters, Sandra Banks, Galesburg; and
Judith Rowe, Mount Zion; three sisters, Lillian Wice,
Fawn McClung, and Beth Butler, all of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thrailkill had lived in Galesburg
since 1950. She had been employed as a cashier at O.T.
Johnson’s Department Store. She was a member of
Faith United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at
Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 13 years.
Funeral service was Dec. 29, 2000 in Faith
United Methodist Church, the Rev. Kevin Treptow officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Shaver died from injuries suffered
in a car accident on U.S. 224, two miles west of Tiffin,
at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
He was born Nov. 5, 1965 in Findlay to
Duane R. and Mary L. (Stearns) Shaver. His mother, now
Mary Wiseman, survives in Findlay. He married Wendy Dymond
and they were divorced. His fiancée, Lisa M. Johnson,
died in the same car accident.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dana
Nicole and Holly Ann Shaver, both of Findlay; three stepbrothers,
Randy and Steven Wiseman, both of Wayne; Jeffrey Wiseman,
Bradner; two sisters, Robin Arnold and Penny Shaver, both
of Findlay; two stepsisters, Kristal Wiseman and Roxann
Garner, both of Wayne; paternal grandmother, Margaret
L. Shaver, Fostoria; maternal grandfather, Albert D. Stearns,
Kansas.
He was preceded in death by a stepfather,
Harold D. Wiseman.
Mr. Shaver was a certified welder at Fabco.
He attended Central Church of Christ.

Minnie Marie Schreiner, 92, formerly of
227 Sycamore St., Fostoria, died at 3:45 a.m. in the Bethesda
Care Center in Fremont. She was born Oct. 28, 1908 to John
and Delphine (LeClair) Kauffman. She married Wilfred "Dutch"
Schreiner on Sept. 23, 1930 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church
in Fostoria, he died July 22, 1980.
Surviving include: three daughters, Mrs.
Marilyn Sauber of Fostoria, Mrs. Norma Hibbard of Leesburg,
Fla., and Mrs. Patricia Smola of Fremont; two sisters, Mrs.
Olive Gillig of Fostoria, and Clara Kramer of Indianapolis,
Ind.; a brother, Edward Kauffman of Tell City, Ind.; 13
grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a great-great
grandson.
Also deceased are a daughter, Opal Benjamin;
a son, Carl Schreiner; three brothers; a sister; and a grandchild.
Mrs. Schreiner retired in 1969 from the
Autolite Company in Fostoria after 23 years of employment.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

will be at St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery.

Raymond S. "Dutch" Thiry, 93, formerly
of 712 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday,
Jan. 25, 2001, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Findlay.
He was born March 26, 1907, in New Riegel
to Joseph and Magdalena (Hilger) Thiry. He married Dorothy
Mahler Oct. 29, 1930, in Monroe, Mich. She died in 1961.
He married Lucille A. Prowant in 1969 in St. Wendelin
Catholic Church. She died Aug. 15, 1990.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and
a brother, Albert, of Parma.
Two brothers, Oscar and Charles Sr., and
a sister, Mae Zender, preceded him in death.
He was a retired sales coordinator and
delivery operator for Home Furniture Co., Toledo, and
a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

Monday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church followed by the
Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. and burial in the

She was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Lorain
to John and Arstella (Warrington) Snider. She married Homer
B. Spencer Sept. 3, 1947. He died in December 1980.

Dailey of Hope Mills, N.C., and Mrs. Ronald (Catherine D.)

She had been employed in the kitchen at

Edward C. Smarr, 54, of Buckley Street,
Fostoria, died at 8:56 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Fostoria
Community Hospital.
He was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Wooster,
to Carroll and Nina (Baker) Smarr. They survive in Fostoria.
He first married Sharon Young, and they were divorced. On
April 11, 1998, in Arcadia, he married Nora L. Brown, who
survives in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: a son, Eddie
Smarr of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Tod (Cami E.) Gillian
and Traci C. Moyer, both of Fostoria; three stepsons, Jeffrey
K. and Mark A. Rochester, both of Fostoria and Howard C.

Rilda F. Santangelo, 76, died Monday,
Feb. 5, 2001, at her residence on Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria.
She was born March 8, 1924, in Greensburg,
Pa., to Walter and Lucetta (Eicher) Kuhns. Her husband,
Michael A.Santangelo, died March 27, 1986.
Survivors include: a son, Orlando Santangelo
of Fostoria; two sisters, Martha Virgil of Fruitland Park,
Fla. and Ruth Virgil of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A daughter, Evelyn Santangelo; and three
sisters, Katherine Jones and Stattira and Dorothy Kuhns,
also are deceased.
Mrs. Santangelo was a homemaker.

Pauline L. Senn, 73, of 241 Rock St.,
Fostoria, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in
St. Catherines Care Center, Fostoria.
She was born Sept. 14, 1927, in Fostoria
to Louis and Anna (Hugg) Erbland. She married Paul James
Senn on April 28, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Danbury;
and he died April 4, 1989.
Survivors include: a son, Scott of Fostoria;
two daughters, Sandra Enright of Findlay and Susan Senn
Coleman of Fostoria; three grandchildren; and a sister,
Anne Mary Saldusky of Fostoria.
Two sisters, Helen Lowery and Rose Marie
Bronson, are deceased.
Mrs. Senn was a 1945 graduate of St. Wendelin
High School and attended St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

Word has been received of the death of
Louise Emanuel Strite, 82, formerly of Fostoria, who died
Dec. 3, 2000 in Danville, Ind.
She was born Dec. 14, 1917 in Sumter County,
S.C. to Charles Emanuel and Harriett Rebecca Saunders.
She married Gordon Strite, and he survives
in Coatesville, Ind. Mr. Strite was a nutritionist for the
Ohio Farmers Grain & Supply Association Feed Division
in Fostoria.
Mrs. Strite is also survived by a daughter,
Edna Tkachuk, Coatesville; a son, Charles Strite, Kokomo,
Ind.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Strite worked as a registered nurse
until her retirement in 1978. She had been employed as plant
nurse at Ford/Bendix, Fostoria.
She served as national president of the
America Cancer Society from 1966-70 and headed up the Seneca
County unit of the American Cancer Society from 1967 until
1973.
She attended the College of Charleston
and the Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing. She completed
her post graduate work at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
She also worked as a nurse for the U.S. Army during World
War II.

William and Lucy (Phillips) Simmons. She married Henry Talmadge,
and he died June 19, 1980. She then married Jim Nevels,
and he also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Talmadge,
Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and a brother, Robert Simmons, Brookport, Ill.
Mrs. Talmadge-Nevels was a homemaker and
retired nurse's aide.

He was born April 7, 1919, in Cohoctah,
Mich., to Gustave and Lillian (Fredrickson) Steinacker.
He married Norma G. Mevis on Sept. 21, 1939, in Howell,
Mich., and she survives in Palmetto, Fla.
Other survivors include: two sons, Phillip
E. of Brighton, Mich., and Daniel G. of Fostoria; a daughter,
Janet M. Vagnetti of Brighton, Mich.; 16 grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Willard of Palmetto,
Fla.; and a sister, Frances Steinacker of Fostoria.
He retired from the Livingston County Road
Commission, Livingston, Mich.; was a member of the Coach
House Square Dancing Club, Palmetto, Fla.; and was of the
Lutheran faith.

Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.
She was born Sept. 28, 1910, in Hardin County
to Frank and Alda (McGinnis) Tremain; and married Lloyd
P. Taylor who is deceased.
Survivors include a brother, Marion Tremain
of Kenton; and a sister, Jean Ann Jackson of Lima.
Also deceased are two sisters, Miriam Tremain
and Thelma Johnson.
Mrs. Taylor was a 1927 graduate of Ada High
School; a homemaker; and a member of Wesley United Methodist
Church, Fostoria, XYZ Group, Alpha Delta Sunday School teacher,
Shepherd Center and former chairperson of Naomi Ruth Circle.

SCHMIDT, JANET K.
A memorial service for Janet K. Schmidt,
56, of 519 Main St., Risingsun, will be held at 11 a.m.

scientific research.
Ms. Schmidt died at 11 p.m. Monday, March
19, 2001 at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1944 in Fostoria to
Royal and Betty (Dicken) Harrison, and they survive.

Fostoria; and a grandmother, Kathryn Harrison, Fostoria.
Ms. Schmidt worked at Autolite facilities
in Fostoria and Perrysburg for 16 years, the last three
as a benefits administrator.
She was a graduate of Lakota High School,
and received a bachelor of science degree in business administration
from Heidelberg College.
She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist
Church, where she served as church organist and treasurer.
She was a member of Jane Washington Chapter, Daughters of
the American Revolution.

She was born Jan. 4, 1907 in Seneca County
to Russell and Alma (Shaferly) Creeger. She married James
H. Streng on Feb. 28, 1933 in Tiffin, and he died Nov. 25,
1973.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Carol)
Burns, Fostoria; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
a brother, L.D. Creeger, Tiffin; and a sister, Celestia
Wade, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Maurice and Elmer Creeger; a sister, Catherine Dundore;
and a foster brother, Ray Wise.
Mrs. Streng retired in 1971 from Ford Motor
Co., Fostoria, after more than 25 years.
She was a member of St. John's United Church
of Christ, where she was a member of Ladies Aid Society
and dartball league.
She was an advisor for Quadruple 4-H Club
for more than 40 years. Mrs. Streng was inducted into the
Seneca County Agriculture Hall of Fame. She was a member
of Loudon Center Grange, and its dartball and bowling leagues,
and Seneca County Farm Bureau. She volunteered at Fostoria
Sharing Kitchen.

Walter H. "Wassie" Stansbery, 87, formerly
of 636 N. Vance St., Carey, died at 8:20 p.m. in the Wyandot
County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.
He was born on April 12, 1913, in Wyandot
County, to Leonard and Marietta "Etta" (Musgrave) Stansbery.
On Aug. 25, 1935, he married Lucille M. Dill. She died in
1980.
Surviving are: two sons; James Stansbery
of Ozark, AL., and Dennis "Toby" Stansbery of Carey, five
daughters; Helen Ratliff and Mrs. Dale (Phyllis) Hickle,
both of Carey, Rosemary Smith of Van Buren, Mrs. Walter
(Lorraine) Brown of Fostoria and Mrs. Lloyd (Margie) Logsdon
of Carey, 27 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren, three
brothers; Alfred Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, Howard and
Carl Stansbery both of Carey.
Deceased are two sons, Michael Lewis Stansbery
and Charles "Chuck" Stansbery, brothers; David , Richard,
Roy and Paul Stansbery, two sisters; Marietta Stansbery
and Clara Mae Benson.
Mr. Stansbery retired from both the C &
O Railroad in 1954 after 22 years of employment and from
National Lime & Stone Co., Carey in 1975 after 21 years
of employment. In addition, he worked part-time for the
Crawford Township Trustees.
He was affiliated with the Methodist faith,
a member of the Carey Conservation Club and a life member
of the Carey Eagle's Aerie 3098.
Service will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday,
at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and will be
officiated by the Rev. Cynthia Morrison. Burial will be
at the Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m., Friday at the funeral

2001, in Fostoria.
She was born on July 4, 1917 in Arcadia,
to William John and Florence Pearl (Duffy) Smith. In 1940,
in Ludlow, Ky., she married Harry Milo Shull. He died in
1992. Survivors include: a brother; Theodore W. "Ted" Smith
of Findlay, and a sister; Margaret Shaver of Fostoria.
Also deceased are: brothers; Leland, Milton,
Lloyd and Donald Smith and a sister; Dorothy Cranick.
Mrs. Shull was co-owner of a grocery in
Carey and had been employed at Autolite for 10 years.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist
Church, Carey, and was a graduate of Wayne High School.
Service is 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Mann-Hare
Funeral Home, Fostoria, with interment at the Van Horn Cemetery,
Vanlue.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Thursday,
prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Phyllis A. Teopas-Burns, 65, formerly of
2640 Courtly Drive, Fostoria, died at 10:04 p.m. Friday,
March 30, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 27, 1935, in Defiance,
to Cloyce and Ruth (Roughton) Stites. Both preceded her
in death. She married Paul L. Teopas, who died in December
1970. She married Robert A. Burns, who died in February
2000.
Survivors include: a son, Mark B. Teopas
of Sylvania; four step- daughters, Mrs. Mark (Mary Kay)
Lonneman of Cincinnati, Mrs. Stephen (Barbara M.) Decker
of Tiffin, Mrs. Larry (Carol M.) Gottfried of Tiffin, and
Mrs. Mark (Michelle M.) Cottingham of Cold Spring, Ky.;
11 step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gary (Sandy) Myers
of Napoleon; and a brother, Cloyce "Sonny" Stites of Fremont.
Also preceding her in death was a brother,
Sam Stites.
Mrs. Teopas-Burns was a retired registered
nurse and had been employed for many years at the late Dr.
Emmet Sheeran's office in Fostoria. She was a member of
St. Wendelin Catholic Church, a 1954 graduate of Ayersville
High School, and graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing
in Toledo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place
at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.
Burial will be at the Fountain Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Hoening
Funeral Home, Fostoria, followed by a 7 p.m. Christian wake
service. The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
the church.

STAMBAUGH, WANDA LUCILLE
Wanda Lucille Stambaugh, 89, of 739 Circle
Drive, Fostoria, died at 11:00 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2001,
at Medical College of Ohio.
She was born March 2, 1912, in Upper Sandusky,
to Bernard and Ida (Losey) Welling. In 1932, in Risingsun,
she married Harry R. Stambaugh. He died Nov. 25, 1965.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robert
(Doris G.) Gibson of Fostoria, a son, Edward Welling of
Toledo, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also deceased are: three brothers, Marvin,
Clarence and Bernard; two sisters, Bernice Caddick and June
French; and one grandchild.
Mrs. Stambaugh, a graduate of Upper Sandusky
High School, owned and operated the Cozy Corner Restaurant
in Fostoria from 1951 to 1971.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at
the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Lowell
Reeder officiating. Interment will take place at the Fountain
Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday
in the funeral home.

A funeral Mass for Gregory Joseph Tobin,
51, of Mount Vernon, Ill., and formerly of Findlay, will

Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military rites
will be conducted by American Legion Post 141, Mount Vernon,
Ill.

Mr. Tobin died at 1:43 p.m. Tuesday, April
3, 2001 at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital, Mount Vernon,
Ill.
He was born Feb. 8, 1950 in Mount Vernon,
Ill. to John Joseph and Betty Ruth (Lemay) Tobin. His father
and stepmother, Betty (Borkosky) Tobin, survive in Findlay.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Bill
(Teresa) Clark and Anne Tobin, both of Findlay; and Jonna
Tobin, Austin, Texas; and four brothers, Kevin and Tom,
both of Fostoria; Tim of Chicago; and Chad of Columbus.
Mr. Tobin was a retired Fostoria auto dealership
owner.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Military
Police.
He was a Tiffin University graduate.
Mr. Tobin was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic
Church, VFW and AMVETS, all of Fostoria; American Legion
Post 141 and Moose Lodge 755, both of Mount Vernon, Ill.;
American Legion Post 1193, Bluford, Ill.; Eagles Lodge;
and Elks Lodge, Ohio, for 16 years.

STOVER, GEORGE R.
George R. Stover, 72, of 3733 E. TR 122,
died at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at St. Vincent-Mercy
Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born October 25, 1928, in Upper Sandusky,
to Levi and Unis (Rank) Stover. They preceded him in death.
On December 28, 1946, in Tiffin, he married Jean A. Cole
and she survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Mark Stover
of Republic, and Matthew Stover of Pittsburgh, two daughters,
Diane Hampshire of Tiffin, and Susan Windsor of Fostoria,
a sister, Mildred Reis of Columbus, 21 grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are eight brothers.
Mr. Stover had been employed as a driver
with South Shore Truck Driving and retired in 1972.
The Rev. Keith Stripe will officiate the
service which is pending and will be announced at a later
date by the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Burial will take
place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Tsantles died at 7:26 a.m., Wednesday,
April 11, 2001 at Surrey Place, Bradenton, Fla.
She was born Aug. 18, 1924 in Findlay to
Orrin and Florence (Houser) Breidigan. She married James
P. Tsantles on Dec. 23, 1944, and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Nick T. of
Bradenton; Pete J. of Nashville, Tenn.; and Steve A. of
Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Marty (Christine A.) Phillips,
Fostoria; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Ruth Ellen Driggs, Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Michael
and Tommy.
Mrs. Tsantles was a retired bailiff for
the City of Fostoria.
She was a 1942 graduate of Fostoria High
School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Business
Women Association and Republican Club, all of Fostoria.
She also was chairperson of Fostoria Day in Florida.

Marie G. Saunders, 79, of Fostoria, died
at 11:55 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2001, at Fostoria Community
Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1921, in Gallia County,
to Alfred Monroe and Jennie (Strickland) Hatfield. She was
first married to Myrl Roberts, and he died. Later, she married
Walter Saunders, and he also died.
Survivors include: four sons, Eugene Roberts
of Austin, Texas, Paul Roberts of Fremont, Roger Roberts
of Columbus, and Phillip Roberts of Bidwell; three daughters,
Nargena Dimitrovski of Naples, Fla., Barbara Woodruff and
Carolyn Miles, both of Fostoria; a brother, George Hatfield
of Napoleon, two sisters, Faye Hanley of Fostoria and Rilla
Luckadoo of Gallipolis, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren
and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Saunders was a member of Springfield
Baptist Church and the Old Red Brick Church in Gallia County.
She retired as a nurse from Holzer Medical Center and the
Gallipolis Developmental Center in Gallipolis.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday
at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis. Burial
will be at the Centenary Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral
home.

Henry John Kevin Straub, 21, of CR 18, died
Monday, April 16, 2001, in Fostoria.
He was born in Tiffin, July 2, 1979, to
Robert and Janet (Smith) Straub. They survive in Bettsville.
Survivors also include two brothers, Aaron
Straub of Toledo, and Chad Straub of Fostoria; a sister,
Audrey Straub of Lakewood, paternal grandparents Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Straub, Sr. of Bettsville and maternal grandparents,
Elizabeth Smith of Tiffin and Myron Smith of Sandusky.
Mr. Straub was a member of St. James Catholic
Church. He was a 1997 graduate and avid supporter of Bettsville
High School. He was employed as Assistant Manager with Brightnet.
Services will be private and officiated
by Fr. Ted Miller.

Private services for Jacob "Jake" M. Schlenker,

Mr. Schlenker died at 8:20 p.m. Saturday,
April 21, 2001 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.
He was born Aug. 16, 1906 in Cincinnati
to Jacob and Elizabeth (Brewe) Schlenker.He married Thelma
I. Quail on June 25, 1932 in Fostoria, and she died June
21, 1976.
Surviving are three sons, Robert of New
Riegel; William of Fostoria; and John of West Chicago, Ill.;
seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Kell and Irving; and three sisters, Loretta, Emma and Mildred
Schlenker.
Mr. Schlenker retired as a self-employed
farmer in 1968. He also was a barber in Fostoria in the
1940s, and had worked at National Machinery, Tiffin.
He graduated from Fostoria High School in
1924.

THOMAS, ALBERT H.
Albert H. Thomas, 82, of 140 W. Sixth St.,
Fostoria, died at 10:57 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001 at
St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born July 12, 1918 in Wood County
to Albert and Gertrude (Hammer) Thomas. He married Kentha
K. Ewing on Nov. 7, 1940 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church,
Fostoria, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joseph
(Anne) Steyer, Defiance; two sons, Kent A. of Mount Sterling;
and Keith K. of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
and a brother, Richard of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Charles, Robert and Gerald.
Mr. Thomas retired in 1981 after 30 years
as a tool and die maker for Excello Corp.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic
Church; Knights of Columbus Council 1197, third degree,
where he was past treasurer for many years; and American
Legion Post 73, all of Fostoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Fountain
Cemetery, Fostoria, where military rites will be conducted
by United Veterans of Fostoria.

A memorial service for Donald C. Soals,
67, of Riverview, Fla., and formerly of Fostoria, will be

Mr. Soals died April 27, 2001, in Riverview,
Fla.
He was born July 19, 1933, to Bernice and
Clara (Schnitzler) Soals. He married Verlen L. Black, and
she survives him.
Survivors also inlcude four daughters, Valerie
L. Cox, Metropolis, Ill.; Julie D. Pizana, McComb; Margaret
I. Olague, Findlay; and Christine Y. Dudley, Florida; two
sons, John S. Bell Jr. and Charles A. Bell, both of Fostoria;
10 grandchildren; a brother, Robert of Niceville, Fla.;
and three sisters, Irene Bauman, Patricia Hunker and Mary
Jane Soals, all of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Richard and Joseph; and two sisters, Florence Boyd and Margaret
Nye. Mr. Soals retired in 1984 as a mill operator.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
War.
SMITH, EDSON C.
Edson C. Smith, 59, of 3404 Gwilym Road,
Fostoria, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001 at Independence
House in Fostoria.
He was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Nevada, Ohio,
to Elwood and Kathryn (Reidel) Smith and they survive in
Sycamore. On Jan. 21, 1967, at Trinity United Methodist
Church in Port Clinton, he married Rosemary English, and
she survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: a son, Christopher
E. Smith of Port Clinton; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Jennifer
Joy) Huffman of Fostoria; and a brother, James Eastman of
Toledo.
Mr. Smith was owner and president of the
Trico Glass Co. in Fostoria since 1983, having been employed
with them since 1971 until his retirement in October 2000.
He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member
of First Presbyterian Church of Fostoria, Tiffin Lodge 77
Free and AcceptedMasons, 32nd Degree York Rite Mason, a
member of Zenobia Shrine Temple of Toledo and its band,
a member and past president of Fostoria Shrine Club, Fostoria
Elks Lodge 935. He was past board president of Fostoria
Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of Fostoria Rotary
Club, Fostoria Economic Development Corp., Fosstoria Brass
Quintet, Fostoria Community Band, Flag City Band and University
Band, both in Findlay, Redmen Music Club, and curator of
Fostoria Glass Heritage Gallery from 1998-2000. He was actively
involved in the Fostoria Glass and Heritage Festival.
In addition, the Fostoria High School band
room was recently renamed Edson C. Smith Hall for his many
contributions to the FHS instrumental music program.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at
First Presbyterian Church in Fostoria and will be officiated
by the Rev. R. Edson Reed. Interment will be in the Fountain
Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the
United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will take place at 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Monday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Masonic
memorial services will take place at 7p.m.

Carl and Irene (Martin) Stauffer, and her father survives.
She married William E. Sanford Jr. on June 17, 1967, and
he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Howard
(Amy) Blair and Mrs. Jason (Sirena) Spence, both of Findlay;
two grandchildren; four brothers, Dave Stauffer, Arlington;
William and Tom Stauffer Sr., both of Findlay; and Carl

Polland, Fostoria; and Mrs. Mark (Rita) Ash, Findlay.
Mrs. Sanford was a bus driver for Findlay
City Schools for 19 years.
She was a member of Blanchard Avenue Pentecostal

Lester Blaine St. Clair Jr., 65, of Risingsun,
died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Blanchard Valley
Regional Health Center, Findlay.
He was born Nov. 19, 1935 in Bradner to
Lester Blaine and Helen L. (Schelle) St. Clair Sr. He married
Beverly D. Niswander on June 22, 1966 in Bradner, and she
survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Pierce,
McClure; six sons, Jerry Keaton, Cygnet; Willard Keaton,
Findlay; Edward Keaton, North Baltimore; Jonathan Keaton,
Bloomdale; James St. Clair, Fostoria; Tony St. Clair, Risingsun;
15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers,
Kenneth of Seattle, Wash.; James of Bradner; Merlin of Lowell,
Mass.; David of Warren, N.H.; and three sisters, Margie
Northam, Hamilton, Ala.; Mary Gump and Molly Hartman, both
of Bradner.
He was preceded in death by four brothers
and two sisters.
Mr. St. Clair was a retired laborer for
Maple Leaf Farms, Wayne.
He was affiliated with Kings Parish Church,
Hatton.

to Orville and Hazel (Ghaster) Minard. She married Herbert

June E. Stearns, 74, of Rutland, died Thursday,
June 7, 2001, at Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville.
She was born Mar. 31, 1927, in Fostoria,
to Charles H. and Mildred M. (Serfoss) Mergenthaler. Her
father is deceased and her mother survives in Fostoria.
Her husband, Warren J. Stearns, survives in Rutland.

Charles J. Stearns, both of Rutland; a brother, John Mergenthaler
of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Victor (Joan Ann) Hoover of
Tiffin; and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Stearns was a homemaker and a member

Herbert F. and Ada N. (Johnston) Lord.

Ms. Stump graduated from Fostoria High School
and attended college for two years. She retired in 2000
as a sales person at The Fireworks Store in Sandusky, after
18 years of employment. She attended the Trinity United
Methodist Church in Pt. Clinton.

at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with the
Rev. Branson Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Fountain

Robert L. Shiley, 86, of Arcadia, died at
8:24 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at St. Catherine's Care
Center, Fostoria.
He was born May 4, 1915 in Seneca County
to Lewis and Eudora (Grubb) Shiley. He married Mary C. Reinhard
on Oct. 19, 1935 in Fostoria, and she died Oct. 4, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis of Fostoria;
and David of New Knoxville; a daughter, Mrs. David (Janet)
Corbin, Arcadia; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold
of Carey; and Raymond of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren;
and a brother, Harlan.
Mr. Shiley retired in 1977 as a truck driver
for Miller Tile Co., Bascom.
He was a 1934 graduate of Fostoria High
School. He was a member of Enon Valley Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Snyder died at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, June
19, 2001 at Winebrenner Village.
He was born Feb. 20, 1915 in Cleveland to
Rowland and Julia (McGreevy) Snyder. He married Marie B.
Fornes on April 10, 1939, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Julieanne
Myers, Bloomville; and Diane Bell and Mrs. Phillip (Mary
Beth) Bower, both of Findlay; two sons, James E. of Brooklyn
Park, Minn.; and Robert J. of Plano, Texas; 14 grandchildren;
15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Dove, Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by a daughter,
Sheila Messmer; and a sister, Mary Rettig. Mr. Snyder retired
in 1976 after more than 25 years with Fornes Brake Service.
He also managed the stock yard in Arlington in the 1940s.
He was a member of Hancock County Senior Citizens; St. Michael
Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society and 55 Plus group;
Loyal Christian Benefit Association; and was past president
of Findlay Fishing Club.

THOMAS, MARY F.
Mary F. Thomas, 77, formerly of Lynn St.,
died at 1:05 p.m., June 26, 2001, at the St. Catherine's
Care Center in Fostoria.
She was born in Seneca County, March 24,
1924, to Frank D. and Minnie M. (Hawk) Calhoon, both are
deceased.
She is survived by a son, John Thomas of
Fostoria and a granddaughter, Dakota Marie Thomas of Fostoria.
Two brothers, Russell and William Calhoon
are deceased.
Mary Thomas was a homemaker and had worked
at Keyes Dry Cleaning and Sterling Foods in Fostoria.
Graveside services will take place at 10:30
a.m., Thursday, at Fountain Cemetery. The Rev. Branson J.
Hawkes will officiate.
Visitation is 9-10 a.m., Thursday, prior

Brother of Fostoria resident
John L. Sorg, 35, of Burgoon, Ohio, died
Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Memorial Hospital in Fremont.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1966, in Fremont
to Kent L. and Helen M. (Tucker) Sorg and they survive.
On June 3, 1995 in Fremont, he married Penny Jo Shearn and
she survives.
Survivors also include: a step-son, Ricky
Martin Henry of Burgoon; four brothers, David Sorg of Columbus,
Mark Sorg of Fostoria, Matthew Sorg of New York, and Luke
Sorg of Burgoon; four sisters, Kathy Rhinehart of Columbus,
Bonnie Kleeberger of Warren, Janet Ramey of Portsmouth and
Susan Rice of Burgoon.
Deceased include his grandparents.
Mr. Sorg served in the U.S. Army from 1984-89
and earned the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon,
Driver and Mechanic Badge and Marksman Qualifications Badge
(M-16). He worked as a foreman for Wollins in Clyde, Lamson
Session in Bowling Green and Besuvius USA in Bettsville.

a.m. Wednesday, at the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, 416

Margaret L. Thomas, 79, of Stinchcomb Drive
in Fostoria, died Wednesday morning, July 4, 2001, at her
residence.
She was born Nov. 26, 1921, in Green Springs
to Clarence H. and Ada Mae (Wilcox) Workley. Both are deceased.
She married Richard Thomas and they divorced. He is deceased.
Survivors include: three sons, William "Bill"
Thomas of Port Clinton, Richard J. Thomas of New Riegel
and David A. Thomas of Findlay, two daughters, Mrs. H. Richard
(Margie) Pelton of Fostoria and Mrs. Bradford (Carrie) Miller
of Alvada; a brother, Clayton Workley of Findlay, 13 grandchildren
and 8 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Sharon K. Thomas; two sisters,
Leah Mae Dillon and Bonnie Weaks; a granddaughter; and two
great-grandchildren are deceased.
Mrs. Thomas retired as a cook from the Black
Cat Restaurant in Fostoria and the Old Shell Restaurant
in Alvada.
She was a member of The Home League and
Golden Agers of the Salvation Army in Findlay.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at
the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, with Major Donald
Speakman of the Salvation Army officiating. Burial will
take place in Fountain Cemetery.

Orval B. "John" Spittler, 77, of 628 W.
Main St., Risingsun, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, July 9,
2001 at his daughter's residence in Fremont.
He was born Feb. 6, 1924 in Skelt, W.Va.
to John D. and Goldie G. (Mallett) Spittler. He married
Waveline A. McCoy on Feb. 22, 1947 in Webster Spring, W.Va.,
and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William Boyd
of Uniontown, Pa.; Robert Nelson of Luckey; five daughters,
Mrs. Richard (Pat) Carr, Seattle, Wash.; Wanda Bilger, Fremont;
Judy Blair, Fostoria; Mrs. Phillip (Mary) McConnell, Genoa;
and Mrs. Terrance (Sylvia) Keeler, Risingsun; 18 grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Oral of Buckhannon,
W.Va.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Ordrea, Ora and Calvin; and two sisters, Virginia Skidmore
and Rosetta Long.
Mr. Spittler retired in 1986 after 34 years
as a tool and dye maker at Seneca Wire Co., Fostoria. Previously
he was a coal miner in West Virginia.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War
II, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge building bridges.
He was a member of Girton Church of God and president of
UAW Local 775 for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Herbert
T. Hill officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens,
east of Findlay, where military rites will be conducted
by United Veterans of Fostoria.

SAXTON, DONALD L.
Donald L. Saxton, 83, of Fostoria, died
at 3:14 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at his residence.
He was born in West Jefferson, to Lewis
H. and Louise (Burch) Saxton, both are deceased. On July
3, 1937, in Tiffin, he married Thelma M. Hoover, and she
survives in Fostoria.
Surviving also include: a son, Gary D. Saxton
of Tiffin; a daughter, Sharon L. Saxton of Fostoria; a brother,
Ray Saxton of Tiffin; and three grandchildren.
Deceased include two sons, Gerald L. and
David L. Saxton; two brothers, John and Harvey Saxton; and
three sisters, Edith Carles, Myrtle Wilkins, and Virginia
Saxton.
Mr. Saxton retired in 1980 as a truck driver
with Central Transport in Tiffin. He was a U.S. Army Veteran
of WW II and a member of the Fostoria C.B. Club.
Services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday,
at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria, with the
Rev. Terry McBeath officiating. Burial will be in Seneca
Memory Gardens in Tiffin.

SIEKERES, ALBERT
Albert Siekeres, 85, of Fostoria, died at
1:50 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Cleveland,
to Albert and Marie (Hedervary) Siekeres Sr. Both are deceased.
He married Margaret Kathleen Amos June 6, 1940, in Portage,
and she survives in Fostoria.
He also is survived by two daughters, Mrs.
Robert (Judy) Elphinstone of Portersville, Pa., and Mrs.
Kurt (Janet) Goszyk of Washington Crossing, Pa., and nine
grandchildren. A step-brother, John A. Siekeres, also preceded
him in death.
Mr. Siekeres was a 1935 graduate of Bowling
Green State University, receiving a bachelor of science
degree in biology and a master's degree in science. He taught
at Tipton High School for two years, Arlington High School
for three years, and taught at Fostoria High School for
30 years, teaching chemistry, physics and drivers education.
He also coached basketball and was an area referee. He was
a member of High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria.
Mr. Siekeres' body was donated to Medical
College of Ohio in Toledo.
Memorial services will be at a later date.

Roger L. Sperow of Fostoria died at 10:47
a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born in Bascom to Ellis and Helen
(Hoover) Sperow and they are deceased. He married Nancy
E. Dowdy in Bowling Green and she survives.
Survivors also include: three daughters,
Mrs. Dave (Lynn) Hannigan of Risingsun, Mrs. Richard Jr.
(Nita) Haas of Maumee and Mrs. Tim (Rhonda) Schaffer of
Findlay; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Aileen) Coppus of Fostoria,
Mrs. Frank (Marilyn) Bugner of Tiffin and Mrs. Jim (Nadine)
Omlor of Bascom; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A daughter, Joni Sperow, is deceased.
Mr. Sperow retired in 1990 from Atlas Crankshaft
in Fostoria after 26 years of employment. He was a graduate
of Hopewell-Loudon high school and was a World War II U.S.
Navy veteran.
He was a member of Amvets Post 21, Moose
Lodge 698 in Findlay, Eagles Club in North Baltimore, and
VFW in Tiffin. His interests included his family, baseball,
Ohio State football, and NASCAR.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday
at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Roy
Girdler officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery
with military graveside rites to be conducted by the United
Veterans of Fostoria.

died at 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2001. He was born Dec.
6, 1919 to Louis and Veronica (Schroeder) Smith. On Sept.
6, 1947 he married Ruth A. Riepenhoff, and she survives.

J. Smith of Dayton, Louis J. Smith of Delta, Roger B. Smith
of Alvada, Mark H. and S. Gary Smith, both of Fostoria;
six daughters, Sister Bonnie Smith O.S.F., Tiffin Mrs. Barbara

KY, Mrs. Mary Lou Wambaugh of Cincinnati, Mrs. Ann E. Smallman
of Metamora and Lori A. Merz of Cincinnati; two sisters,
Rosemary Forton of Lima and Mary Beckman of Findlay, and
19 grandchildren.
Deceased include: four brothers, Ralph,
Carl, James, and Victor Smith; and a sister, Emily Kreitzer.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army Veteran serving
during WW II, he is a retired farmer and retired as a purchasing
agent for Durez in Kenton. His memberships included St.
Wendelin Catholic Church and New Riegel American Legion

Herbert Eldon Snyder, 79, of Fostoria, died
at 11:01 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001 at Fostoria Community
Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1922, in Alvada to Herbert
E. and Ida (Pockmire) Snyder. Both are deceased. He married
Helen Blanche Spiers Aug. 20, 1945. She died Jan. 31, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Dennis W. Snyder
of Houston, Texas; a brother, Donald Snyder of Port Charlotte,
Fla., and a sister, Ellene Myers of Fostoria.
Deceased include: four brothers, Jay, Willie,
Ralph, and Norman Snyder; and a sister Pearl Rodabaugh.
Mr. Snyder was a 1940 graduate of Fostoria
High School. He retired as a World War II Army veteran having
served in the 78 Infantry Division in Europe and was a recipient
of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a life member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Military Order of the
Cootie, Fostoria Amvets Post 69, Fosstoria Eagles Aerie
430, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1567. He was a licensed
private pilot and a member of Experiemental Aircraft Association.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday
in Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria. The Rev. Paul E. Myers
will be the officiant. Military graveside services will
be conducted by United Veterans of Fostoria in Biglick Cemetery
in Biglick Township, Hancock County.

Blanche Shultz, 89, of East Sixth Street,
Fostoria, died Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 2, 1911, in Weston to
Gordon and Rosa (Herringshaw) Heinsman. She married Alfred
Shultz June 21, 1939, in Toledo and he died May 25, 1964.
Survivors include: a son, Layton of Fostoria;
a brother, Ray Heinsman of Ocala, Fla.; and two sisters,
Julie Graves of Atlanta, Ga., and Loreen Hill of Kingston,
Tenn.
She was also preceded in death by: two sons,
Gary and Terry; and a daughter, Linda Shultz.
Mrs. Shultz was a 1929 graduate of Weston
High School and a homemaker.

Robert P. Sacksteder, 83, of 182 St. Francis
Ave., Tiffin, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001 in St. Francis
Home.
He was born April 9, 1918 in Tiffin to the
late Andrew and Katherine (Carringan) Sacksteder.
Survivors include: a brother, Thomas J.
Sacksteder of Fostoria; two sisters, Kathryn L. Sacksteder
and Mrs. Lawrence (Miriam S.) Fanshaw, both of Tiffin.
Two brothers, James L. and Richard G. preceded
him in death.
Mr. Sacksteder was a Calvert High School
graduate and a St. Joseph College graduate of Rensselaer,
Ind. He was a World War II Navy First Lieutenant, an accountant
and owner of Sacksteder and Associates. He was a member
of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin Elks Lodge 94, and
American Legion Post 169.
Services will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday
at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. James K. Say
officiating. The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Burial
will be in the parish cemetery.

8, 1948, in Burgoon, and she survives.

Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. David (Karen) Havens, Wagrum;
Mrs. Duane (Diana) Edinger, Risingsun; and Mrs. David (Teresa)
Moyer, Fostoria; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene;
and a sister, Joyce Beryl Klotz.
Mr. Soule retired in 1977 from Allied Signal
(now Honeywell) after 30 years.
He was a 1947 graduate of Jackson Liberty
High School.
He was a member of Girton Church of God,
where he was trustee and treasurer for 24 years.

R. Stahl on July 3, 1929, and he died in 1971.

a daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) Hitchings, Port Clinton;
seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers,
Frederick, Floyd and Robert Myers; and two sisters, Florence
Hagel and Lois Stewart.
Mrs. Stahl was a homemaker and had worked
at Harry's Restaurant, Fostoria, and Quaker Maid, Bloomdale,
for several years.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church,
Bloomdale; and was a former member of Arcadia Senior Citizens.

George S. "Big George" Tucker, Sr., 64,
of Fostoria, died at 2:24 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 at
his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Spartanburg,
N.C., to Floyd and Evelyn (Rice) Tucker and both are deceased.
He married Bernice LeGrant on June 2, 1958 in Winston Salem,
N. C. and she survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: five sons, Patrick
L. Tucker of Toledo, Ronnie J. Tucker , Michael S. Tucker,
Sr. and George S. Tucker, Jr. all of Fostoria, two daughters,
Lavonia J. Moses and Evelyn D. Tucker, both of Winsston
Salem, N.C., and sister, Edna L. Imes of Fostoria, 25 grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death include: two brothers,
Willie and Horace Tucker; and a sister, Margaret Taylor.
Mr. Tucker was a laborer at General Dynamics
in Lima for 27 years and retired in 1987. He was a member
of First Baptist Church in Fostoria.

She was born Jan. 8, 1909, in Carey to Lewis
and Lillian (Reynolds) Criger. She married Herbert E. Schubert
on June 19, 1937, in Carey, and he died Dec. 4, 1983.
Surviving are a son, Terry L. of Olmsted
Falls; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry
E.; two brothers, Earl and Alvie Criger; and a sister Ethyl
Baughman.
Mrs. Schubert retired in 1973 as an elementary
school teacher for Fostoria City Schools after 30 years.
She had also taught at Carey and Risingsun schools.
She was a graduate of Carey High School,
received a bachelor of science degree in education from
Ohio State University, and completed graduate studies at
Bowling Green State University.
She was a member of Grace United Church
of Christ, Fostoria, and was named Business Woman of the
Year in 1977 by Business and Professional Women's Club,
Fostoria.

RISINGSUN -- Marion Carl "Chuck" Shultz,
73, of Risingsun, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2001,
at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Risingsun
to Luella Mae Shultz. He married R. Jean Tyson on Nov. 7,
1949, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David L. of
Perrysburg; and Danny R. of Plano, Texas; six grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Ann Hattendorf,
Findlay.
Mr. Shultz retired as a wheelabraser operator
for Autolite Foundry/Chrysler after 30 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was a former member of Fostoria VFW and
Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, the Rev. Ivan Schwenn
officiating. Burial will be in Bradner Cemetery.

Funeral services for Kathryn Mary Stevens,

Mrs. Stevens died early Sunday morning,
Sept. 23, 2001, from injuries suffered in a fire at her
residence.
She was born June 2, 1964, in Bowling Green
to Richard L. and Karen (Grant) Chaffin. Her mother, now
Mrs. Don (Karen) Hummel, survives in Deshler. She married
Everette Stevens, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Brandon Joe
and Jacob Lynn, both at home; a stepson, Aaron Stevens,
Deshler; a brother, Scott Carnicom, North Baltimore; a stepbrother,
Gary Carnicom, in Indiana; three sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Lisa)
Orwick, Rudolph; Kyle Prenzlin and Mrs. Kenneth (Alicia)
Falk, both of Fostoria; and a stepsister, Katosha Delacerta,
McComb.
She was preceded in death by three brothers,
Mitchell and Daren Chaffin and Lonnie Carnicom.

She was a graduate of North Baltimore High
School and the cosmetology program at Penta County Vocational
Schools, Perrysburg.

Anna M. Tolento, 68,formerly of Fostoria,
died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 in Berne, Ind. She was born
Aug. 16, 1933 to Rafael and Olivia (Rubio) Tolento. They

of Dearborn, Mich.; and five brothers, Ernest Tolento of

He was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Bloomdale
to Arthur W. and Beulah (Brubaker) Strauss. He married Doris
M. Everhard on May 6, 1948, and she died Dec. 13, 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Ronald G. of
Iowa City, Iowa; John W. of Hoover, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs.
William (Terry A.) Piper, Fostoria; 10 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; a brother, Leo of Hicksville; and a
sister, Elaine Wilson, Waldron, Mich.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce
Hilliard.
Mr. Strauss worked at Tri-County/Society
National Bank, now KeyBank, in Fostoria from 1955-83, where
he held various management positions and was elected vice
president in 1979.
He graduated from Waldron, Mich. High School.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist
Church, Chapter 150 RAM, Council 90 R&SM, Commandry 62 Knights
Templar, High Twelve Club, Vanguards, Shrine, Lions and
Hilltop clubs, Elks Lodge 935 and Toastmasters, and was
past master of F&AM Lodge 288, all of Fostoria. He was a
member of Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and Zenobia Shrine
Temple, Toledo.
Mr. Strauss was active in the Put-Han-Sen
Council of Boy Scouts of America, where he was past scoutmaster
of Troop 456. He was a district scout commissioner of Seneca
County, and received the Silver Beaver Award, the Boy Scouts'
highest adult honor. Former Mayor Ken Beier named June 30,
1983 as Earl E. Strauss Day in Fostoria.

J. Shick on Dec. 10, 1939, and she survives.

Ann Whitmeyer, El Mirage, Ariz.; Linda Kay Suber-Grubel,
Wharton; and Pamela Sue Suber-Shea, Kenton; six grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Garold of Fostoria;
and Donald of Carey.
Mr. Suber was a Wyandot County farmer, and
drove a bus for Wharton and Riverdale schools for 25 years.
He also was a trustee and road supervisor for Richland Township.
He was master of Lincoln and Salem Grange;
7th Degree member of Pomona, State and National Grange;
past noble grand master of Wharton Odd Fellows Lodge; and
served on Wharton-Richland Union Cemetery's board. He also
was a 4-H advisor for Wharton Livestock Club.

Ona Mae "Stubby" Stahl, 81, a resident of

She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Toledo to
Laura Davis. She married Frank Kraske Sr., and they divorced.
She then married William C. Jeakle, and he preceded her
in death. She married Harold Morgan, and he preceded her
in death. She then married George Stahl, and he preceded
her in death.
Surviving are a son, Frank A. Kraske Jr.,
Fostoria; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
six stepsons; two stepdaughters; two brothers, Bernard Dersch,
in Indiana; and Robert Dersch, in Virginia; and a sister,
Verna Momber, Rossford.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine
Hassen.
Mrs. Stahl was a homemaker.
She was a 1940 graduate of Elkhart (Ind.)
High School.
She was a former madam president Golden
Eagle of Eagles Auxiliary, and was a former member of American
Legion, VFW and Moose auxiliaries, all in Fostoria.

Jack Edward Saxton, 63, of Rome, GA, died
on Monday afternoon at a local hospital. He was born to
Hershel Bennett and Lucy (Cook) Saxton. He married Barbara
Jean, who is deceased.
Surviving include: two daughters, Mrs.
Judith Lamprey of Rome, GA, and Mrs. Jacquie Chancey of
Fostoria; four sons, Donald Nash of MN, Roger Nash of
Rome, GA, Jeff and Steve Saxton, both of Tiffin; a brother
Mannie Saxton of Marion; and grandchildren.
Mr. Saxton was a U.S. Veteran serving
in the Korean War.
SCHRODER, MARY E.
Mary E. Schroder, 70, of 2097 Falcon Drive,
Fairfield, Calif., died at 5:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29,
2001, at Kaiser Medical Center in Vallejo, Calif.
She was born July 30, 1931, in McComb,
Ohio to the late Clarence Lester and Dora Alice (Winkle)
Rader. She married Gerald Moyer in 1947 and they were
divorced. She later married Harry A. Schroder in 1964
and he died in 1974 Survivors include: three daughters,
Ruth Ann Moyer of Tiffin, Janice Raney of Fostoria, and
Tammy R. Garibay of Fairfield, Calif., three brothers,
Max and Raymond Rader of Fostoria, and John Rader of Rawson,
Ohio; two sisters, Helen Haney and Doris Barlekamp, both
of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death also include: two
sons, Gerald Moyer, Jr. and Anthony A. Schroder; a brother,
Donald Rader; and a sister, Margaret E. Wooten.
Mrs. Schroder had been employed at the
J.C. Penney Co. in Fairfield, Calif., and was a Domestic
Worker at the Base Hospital at Travis AFB, California.
She was a member of the Fairfield, Calif.
Church of the Nazarene.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday,
at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. The
Rev. Russell Gumm will be the officiant. Burial will be

he died March 14, 1996.

Greta B. Thompson, 94, of St. Francis
Home, formerly of 13 Miami St., Tiffin, died at 9:50 a.m.
Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001. She was born in Alluwee, OK on
Oct. 5, 1907 to Homer C. and Daisy (Montgomery) Stephens.
On July 20, 1929 she married J. Kimmell Thompson in Fostoria.
He died July 9, 1977.
Surviving include: two daughters, Mrs.
Thomas (Elaine) Feintuch of Bucyrus, and Mrs. James (Lois)
Berger of Tiffin; a half-brother, James C. Stephens of
Mentor-on-the-Lake; five grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
Preceded in death were: a granddaughter;
twin sister, Mrs. Carl (Violet) Reinbold, and Mrs. Robert
(Margaret) Ekleberry.
Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Osborne
High School Class of 1927. A secretary-bookkeeper for
25 years for Ohio Power in Fostoria, France Sales, National
Machinery, Superior Paint, and Industrial Coating. She
also managed an apartment building on Miami Street for
43 years. A member St. Paul's United Methodist Church,
and of the Eastern Star OES 94 of Fostoria since 1929.
She was a resident of Tiffin since 1936.
The Rev. Gail Angel will officiate the
10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 funeral service at the
Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fountain
Cemetery, Fostoria.

TYREE, HAROLD W.
Harold Wayne Tyree, 71, of 1072 E. CR
38, Tiffin, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at
his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Whitesburg,
Ky., to Alex and Mattie (Ison) Tyree. He married Glenna
Hickman, his wife of 46 years, on July 20, 1955, in California,
Ky., and she survives.
He is also survived by: four sons, Michael
W. (Martha), Mark W. (Connie), Marty R. (Ta-ah) and Mitch
R. (Kolenia) of Tiffin; and a daughter, Linda E. (Darrin)
Holman of Fostoria. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.
Deceased include his parents, a granddaughter,
four brothers and a sister.
Mr. Tyree retired Jan. 1, 1987, as a machinist
from Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, and also worked part-time
at Hanson Clutch in Tiffin.
He was a member of Tiffin Freewill Baptist
Church, UAW Local 1216 of Ford Motor Co., Union Grange
#1078, and was a lifetime member of Morrison Lake, Inc.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m.

Avenue with Brother Watson Combs officiating. Burial will
be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery on CR 38.

John A. "Thorpe" Schlosser, 53, of 728
W. O'Connor St., Lima, and formerly of Fostoria, died
at 7:52 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at St. Rita's Medical
Center, Lima.
He was born Aug. 7, 1948, in Fostoria
to Donald B. and Ruth L. (Jamison) Schlosser. His mother
survives in Fostoria. He married Melissa Diane Hartsook
on March 30, 1981, in Fostoria, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Joshua Lee of
Green Springs; a daughter, Nicole Beth Schlosser, Lima;
two brothers, Richard A. of Fostoria; and Wayne A. of
Fremont; and two sisters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Gale A.) Conine,
Orlando, Fla.; and Mrs. Charles (Joni L.) Whitta, Fostoria.
Mr. Schlosser was a weld inspector at
General Dynamics Army tank plant, Lima, for more than
29 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam
War.
He was a 1967 graduate of Fostoria High
School and attended Tiffin University.
Mr. Schlosser was a member of Grace United
Church of Christ, AMVETS and United Sportsmen, all in
Fostoria; American Legion and VFW in Lima; and Disabled
American Veterans, Findlay.

Richard L. Schumm, 71, of 3697 N. ST.
RT. 635, Fostoria, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20,
2001 at his home. He was born June 28, 1930 in Tiffin
to Herman and Kathryn (Dowdell) Schumm. On September 5,
1953 he married Coletta M. Scherger in St. Andrews Catholic
Church, and she survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Ronald
of Fostoria, Stephen, John and Gerald all of Tiffin; a
daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Lori) Tanner of Fostoria; two
sisters, Mrs. Margaret Deats of Tiffin, Ohio; Mrs. Gertrude
Perko of Cleveland, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and a great
grandchild.
Preceded in death were: a son, Michael
Schumm; twin daughters, Mary and Beverly Schumm; and a
sister, Frances Schumm.
Mr. Schumm was a Veteran serving in the
U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received the
Bronze Star and the Korean Medal. He attended Calvert
High School, a retired farmer and member of St. Andrew
Catholic Church. And member of the New Riegel American
Legion Post 354, a past volunteer fireman in Bascom and
former assistant fire chief.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m.

husband, Levi Warner, and her third husband, John Troxel.
Surviving are three sons, Curtis W. Johnson,
North Baltimore; Terry A. Johnson, Weston; and Thomas
E. Johnson, Rudolph; a daughter, Juanita Place, Bowling
Green; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister,
Pauline Baker Thomas, Fostoria; and a brother, Wayne Baker,
Fostoria.
She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy
D. Johnson; and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m.
Sunday at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home, Bowling Green, the
Rev. David Boswell officiating. Graveside services will
be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Jerry City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m.
Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Diabetes Foundation
or a charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Troxel worked
for the Bowling Green State University custodial department
for 30 years.
SMITH-RISNER,
NELLIE
Nellie Mae Smith-Risner, 87, of
37800 French Creek Drive, Avon, and formerly of
461 W. Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 4 a.m. Sunday,
Dec. 23, 2001, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, Avon.
She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in White
Bluff, Tenn. to John A. and Stella (Hatley) Warrington.
She married John C. Smith on June 15, 1936, and
he died June 1, 1966. She then married Osville Risner
on Aug. 6, 1970, and he died Dec. 15, 1989.
Surviving are two stepsons, Wyatt
Risner, Maumee; Herbert Risner, Harrod; a daughter,
Mrs. Nizar (Shelby) Fadel, Avon Lake; four stepdaughters,
Mrs. Robert (Louise) Del Castillo, Tucson, Ariz.;
Mrs. Wendell (Edith) Christy, Amanda; Mrs. Victor
(Wanda) Reynolds, Whitehouse; Mrs. Elmer (Jewel)
Wilkins, Grove, Okla.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild;
21 step-grandchildren; and 27 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three
brothers, Claude, John and Elmer Warrington.
Mrs. Risner was a homemaker and
gave piano lessons.
Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m. Wednesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria,
the Rev. Charles Jarvis officiating. Burial will
be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be held an hour
before services Wednesday at the funeral home.

STEVENSON,
THOMAS C.
Thomas C. Stevenson, 73, Fostoria,
died at 11:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at St.
Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Ada,
to James T. and Hazel Marie (Chalfin) Stevenson.
Both are deceased. He married Jean A. Wheeler on
February 27, 1949 in Tiffin and she survives in
Fostoria.
Survivors also include: a son, the
Rev. Gary T. Stevenson of Santa Monica, Calif.;
a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Susan) Gebauer of Fostoria;
two brothers, Eugene P. and William L. Stevenson,
both of Fostoria, four sisters, Barbara A. Conley,
Mary Lou Duvall and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Hirsch,
all of Fostoria, and Mrs. Eldon (Alice) Orick of
Lima; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The Rev. Larry W. Knigga will officiate
services at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Lutheran Church
in Fostoria, where the body will lie in state one
hour prior to services. Interment will be in Fountain
Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday
at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.
