76, of Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday,
Jan. 23, 2000 at Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1923 in Sandusky
to Russell and Helen M. (Bates) Dann. She married Harold W.
Steigerwalt on Dec. 9, 1945 in Toledo and he died May 2, 1989.
Surviving are a son, William of
Bloomdale; a daughter, Mrs. David (Maryann) Hamilton, Findlay;
10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two
sons, Richard and David.
Mrs. Steigerwalt was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at
11 a.m. Wednesday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria,
the Rev. Branson Hawkes officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest
Cemetery, formerly Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

for Lorena M. Sickmiller, 82, a resident of Independence House,
Fostoria, will be held at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.
Mrs. Sickmiller died Saturday,
Jan. 22, 2000 at the nursing home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1917 in Sandusky
County to Chester and Mary Bertha (Oberhaus) Trappe. She married
Donald Sickmiller on Aug. 18, 1953 in Angola, Ind. and he died
Aug. 12, 1979.
Surviving are two sons, Gordon
C. Lamb, Toledo; Dale W. Lamb, Columbus; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a
sister, Beatrice Saylor.
She was employed 20 years in the
stock room at Lamsons Department Store, Toledo.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran
Church, Gibsonburg.

He was born Oct. 15, 1942 in Bloomdale
to Charles and Rose Marie (Valenti) Sherlock. He married Jaclyn
A. Teets on Jan. 5, 1970 in Fostoria and she died Oct. 18, 1999.
Survivors include a stepson, Ed
Arnett Jr. of Arcadia; a brother, Robert of Fostoria; and two
sisters, Marilyn Hitchings and Mrs. Ronald (Sarah) Kraylek,
both of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by a stepson,
Ronnie Arnett.
Mr. Sherlock was a retired truck
driver for Hancor in Findlay.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical

FOSTORIA -- Mildred E. Hollenbaugh-Smothers,
101, formerly of 504 Glenview Drive, Fostoria, died at 11:55
a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home,
Fostoria.
She was born Nov. 22, 1898 in Fostoria
to Arthur and Bertha (Miller) Hollenbaugh. She married Floyd
C. Smothers on Aug. 11, 1923 in Fostoria, and he died Oct. 4,
1973.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.
Robert (Phyllis) Mathias, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; Suzanne
Hopkins, Fostoria; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Mary Miller, Bowling Green.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Ray and Arthur Byron Hollenbaugh; and four sisters,
Lois Morgenstern, Fern Good, Bessie Kesler and Gertrude Boyd.
Mrs. Hollenbaugh-Smothers retired
in 1957 after teaching in the Seneca County, Fostoria City,
West Millgrove and Risingsun school districts.
She was a 1917 graduate of Fostoria
High School and attended Ohio State University and Bowling Green
State University.
She was a member of Wesley United
Methodist Church in Fostoria, Westminster Circle of Kings Daughters,
the Ohio Forestry Association and Fostoria Women's Club. She
was a member and helped organize the Fostoria Ladies Garden
Club in 1971. She also helped organize the first Child Conservation
League in Fostoria in 1930. She was a former member of the Fostoria
Beautification Committee.
In 1980, Mrs. Hollenbaugh-Smothers
was awarded an honorary citation for outstanding work in horticulture
from the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.
Funeral services will be held at
a later date in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, the Rev. Branson
J. Hawkes officiating.

She is survived by two sons, Eric
and Philip Stetzel; three sisters, Patsy Kay Peyton, Brighton,
Mich., Brenda Dreisbach, Cincinnati, and Sue Kitchen, Fostoria;
and 10 grandchildren.

Sylvester A. "Junior" Tiell, 75,
of 13357 CH 4, Carey, died at his residence at 1:20 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 29, 2000.
He was born in Tiffin, Nov. 19,
1924, to Sylvester A. and Lucy C. (Wagner) Tiell. His wife,
Arlene M. (Longanecker) Tiell, whom he married Oct. 11, 1947,
in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church,
Carey, survives.
Survivors also include: six daughters,
Mrs. Nicklaus (Ruth) Reier of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Donald (Donna)
Welly of Whispering Pines, N.C., Mrs. Wayne (Christine) Posey
of Fostoria, Mrs. Dennis (Janet) Zoeller of Upper Sandusky,
Mrs. Donald (Karen) Kimbler of Carey and Carol Tiell of Sandusky;
15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Walter M. Tiell of Toledo and Florian Tiell of
New Riegel; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Roth of Clyde.
Preceding him in death were: a
son, Ronald W. Tiell; a grandson, Jamie Tiell; a brother, Mark
A. Tiell; and a sister, Ethel Gase.
Mr. Tiell, a retired farmer and
lime and stock hauler, owned S.A. Tiell and Son Trucking. He
also worked at National Lime and Stone in Carey for 18 years,
retiring in 1975.
A Salem Township trustee for 12
years, he also was employed as a bus driver for Angeline School
in Wyandot County.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church, Salem Township, Upper Sandusky; American Legion Post
344, Carey; Wyandot County Sportsman Club and the Thursday Night
Men's Bowling League, Carey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will
be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Upper
Sandusky, with the Rev. Ernest Waechter as celebrant. Interment
will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites
will be conducted by the local American Legion.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday
in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, where a Christian
wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

She was born July 28, 1935 in Sebring
to Glenn C. and Ann L. (Hall) Raub. She married Irvin G. Sloat
on Oct. 28, 1950 in Sebring and he survives.

Mrs. Tim (Cindy) Fasig, McComb; and Mrs. Bob (Terri) Avery,
Fostoria; three sons, Jason of Mount Blanchard; Daniel in Texas;
and Irvin Jr. in Florida; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild;

Kenneth, Gary and Glenn Raub Jr., all of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by a

FOSTORIA -- Ralph Emerson Sackett
Sr., 95, of 733 N. Main St., Fostoria, died at 7:05 a.m. Friday,
Feb. 4, 2000 at Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 27, 1905 in Fostoria
to Emerson R. and Laura (Imber) Sackett. He married Lillian
Downey on Sept. 7, 1933 at United Brethren Church, Fostoria,
and she died July 2, 1976.
He is survived by a son, Ralph
E. Jr. of Fostoria.
He was preceded in death by two
sisters, Mable and Clara Sackett.
Mr. Sackett was the owner and operator
of Sackett's Greenhouse, Fostoria, and retired in 1969.
He was a 1924 graduate of Fostoria
High School, where he played the drums in the 1923 National
Championship Band.
He was director of the Ohio Savings
and Loan Association from 1947-79 and was vice president from
1955-79.
He was a 60-year member of Masonic
Lodge 288 F&AM and a 50-year member of Fostoria Shrine Club.
Mr. Sackett was a member of Fostoria
Commandery 62, Garfield Chapter 150, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo
and Fostoria Council 90. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Scottish
Rite Valley of Toledo.

at 1 p.m. Monday at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Saxton, 80, of U.S. 23 South, Fostoria, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 8, 2000 at his home.
He was born March 16, 1919 in West
Jefferson to James and Myrtle (Gatton) Saxton. He married Marilyn
M. Brombley on March 29, 1941 in Fostoria and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry
and James Michael, both of Defiance; a daughter, Mrs. Michael
(Judy) Thomas, Fostoria; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
a brother, Harold of Hamden; a sister, Evelyn Hartwell, Hamden.
He was preceded in death by two
sisters, Mickie Shoaf and Irene Saxton.
Mr. Saxton retired in 1981 from
Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, after 10 years. Prior to that he
had worked at Autolite, Fostoria, for 20 years.
He was a member of Enon Valley
Presbyterian Church near Findlay. He graduated in 1937 from
Fostoria High School and served in the U.S. Army during World
War II.

with Tom Everett and the Rev. Constance Cherry officiating.
Burial will be in Knollcrest Cemetery, formerly Memory Gardens,

John R. Sugrue, 82, of 25 Christopher
Drive, Fostoria, died at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000,
in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Point
Place, to Cornelius and Blanch (Black) Sugrue. His wife, Mabel
E. (Kistler) Sugrue, whom he married in 1961, died June 21,
1999.
Surviving are: two step-sons, Raymond
"Gene" Hamilton of Findlay and James Arnold of Chesterfield
Mich.; and two step-daughters, Rose Marie Kingery of Fostoria
and Mrs. Russell (Linda) Ernst of Findlay.
Three sisters, Florence Swope,
Teresa Sheeter and Blanch; and a brother, Patrick Sugrue, are
deceased.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War
II, Mr. Sugrue had worked at Dow Chemical and was a self-employed
barber, both in Findlay.

Gardens, near Arcadia, where military honors will be provided
at the graveside by the United Veterans of Fostoria..

for 32 years.

She was a member of Fostoria Baptist
Church and the church choir.

1944, to the late Harold W. and Marietta (Unverferth) Smith.
A brother, Douglas L. Smith of

Miss Smith, a licensed hairdresser
for more than 30 years at Marietta's Beauty Salon, also operated
the House of DuBre in Fostoria and worked at Sally's Beauty
Supplies Store in Findlay.
A 1962 St. Wendelin High School
graduate, she graduated in 1963 from beauty school in Cincinnati.

She was born Dec. 30, 1909, in
Seneca County, to Burton A. and Minnie Helen (Smith) Michaels.
On June 10, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she
married Clifford W. Sheeley, who survives in Tiffin.

Paul Sheeley of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Ruth) Schaffer
of Monroeville; a sister, Sister Mary Judith, OSU of Toledo;
three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

brothers, Raymond, Paul, Ralph and Vern Michaels; and a grandson,

A homemaker, Mrs.Sheeley was a

Leopoldt, Ind., to William E. and Ellen (Peters) Cassidy.
On April 29, 1944, she married Robert E. Steinmetz at St.
Wendelin Church.
Surviving are her husband; two
sons, Dale of Salt Lake City, Utah, John of Woodville; a daughter,
Carolyn Knepper of Woodville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
two brothers, Norbert Cassidy of Tiffin, James Cassidy of

Mabel (Amos) Bolen. On June 25, 1941, she married Ernest Sparks
in Fostoria and he died in 1972.
Surviving are: two sons, Ernest W. and Robert
J., both of Fostoria; two grandchildren; a brother, Edward
Garland of Toledo; and a sister, Bernice Houghtaling of Toledo.
She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Robert Doral and Harold Young; and two sisters, Marian Kimes

Mrs. Sparks retired in 1972 after 36 years
of service from the Ford Motor Co., now Honeywell. She was
a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Fostoria.

Jason F. and Geraldine (Heintz) Smith, who survive in Tiffin.
His wife, Linda F. (May) Smith, whom he married in 1975,

James and Emma (Mobley) Shank. On May 2, 1953, in Angola,
Ind., he married Iola E. Keckler, who survives in Fostoria.

FOSTORIA -- Daniel Joseph Scharf, 65, of
3474 Stuart Road, Fostoria, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April
18, 2000 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 12, 1934 in Tiffin to
Maurice and Helen (Fox) Scharf, and his mother survives
in Fostoria.
Other survivors include two sons, Army
Sgt. Maurice in Texas; and James of Virginia Beach, Va.;
a daughter, Danette Marie Scharf; and a grandchild.
Mr. Scharf retired in 1995 as a Chief
Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service.
He was a 1952 St. Wendelin High School
graduate. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting
from Tiffin University.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic
Church, Fostoria, the Life Fleet Reserve Association and
DAV.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30
a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish
cemetery, where graveside services will be conducted by
United Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. Thursday at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Also,

Charles E. Straub, 87, of 4084 SR 100, died
at 12:53 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000, in Mercy Hospital
of Tiffin.
HE was born Nov. 18, 1912, in Tiffin to
Henry and Amelia Molly (Kingshirn) Straub.
He married Madelyn Perrine in Portland,
Ind., Sept. 4, 1937. She survives, along with five sons,
Edward Straub of Bettsville, Charles Simon-Straub of Toledo,
Daniel Straub of Traverse City, Mich., David Straub of Caledonia
and James Straub of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Julia)
Cahill of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild;
five brothers, Henry and Lloyd of Tiffin, Robert of Bettsville,
Albert of South Carolina, and Clarence of McCutchenville;
and six sisters, Florence Creeger of Port Clinton, Helen
Randall and Dorothy Lake of Tiffin, Marie Kizer of Bettsville,
Rosemary Huff of Fostoria, and Bernice Payne of California.
Preceding him in death were three brothers,
William, Paul and Donald.
Mr. Straub was a World War II veteran; a
retired carpenter; a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church,
Fraternal Order of Eagles, and United Brotherhood Carpenters
and Joiners Union.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in St.
Joseph's Catholic Church, with Monsignor Richard Dunn officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the United
Veterans Council will conduct a service at 2 p.m.

She was born in Monterville, W.Va., Sept.
23, 1943, to the late Charles E. and Pansy E. (Helmick)
Peters. On June 19, 1964, in Brady Gate, W.Va., she married
Ernest A. Smith, who survives.

She was born April 19, 1922, in Fostoria,
to Joseph W. and Myrtle (Roushe) Clary. Her husband, Scott
O. Tarris, whom she married June 15, 1947, in Fostoria, died
in 1980.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. David
(Beverly) Lang of Fostoria; and two grandchildren.
A son, Gerald W. Tarris; three brothers, Albert,
Eugene and Earl Clary; and two sisters, Ruth Clary and Vauda
Hunker, are deceased.
Mrs. Tarris, a homemaker, was a member of
High Street United Methodist Church, its United Methodist
Women and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, all of Fostoria.

She was born Aug. 30, 1918 to Leroy and Georgia Frankfather.
Her first marriage was to Donald Fouts and her second marriage
was to Lester Stewart; both preceded her in death.

N.C.; five daughters, Paula L. Hoffman of Bascom, Carol C.
Essex and Linda M. Stick of Fostoria, Judy A. Kauffman of
Alvada and Delthia I. Tyson of Fostoria; a brother, George

of Fostoria and Constance J. Shepard of Michigan.; 20 grandchildren;

He was born in Sandusky County, Jan. 16,
1928, to Erlin and Lavon (Kissling) Stahl. HIs wife, Carole
(Hammer) Stahl, whom he married Nov. 27, 1970, in Monroe,
Mich., survives in Risingsun.
Survivors also include: two sons, Ralph
E. Stahl II of Tucson, Ariz. and Joseph A. Stahl of Risingsun;
two grandchildren; two brothers, Paul E. Stahl of Fostoria
and Leighton Lee Stahl of Kansas; and a sister, Dorothy

A Maritime Seaman for more than 41 years,
Mr. Stahl also worked as a well driller for 10 years.

had been a patient for about a week.
She was born in Cleveland Oct. 24, 1914,
to Edwin C. and Gertrude Anna (Diamond) Wise. She married
Robert Morehart, and he is deceased. Her second husband,
Elza Scott, and third husband, Arden Schatzinger, also
are deceased.
Survivors include: three sons, Charles
Morehart of Bucyrus, Samuel Morehart of Findlay and Carl
Morehart of Sandusky; five daughters, Pearl Bare of Tiffin,

Elizabeth Charlotte Strawman, 87, of West Ridge Dr., Fostoria,
died at 11:20 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000 at Sterling
House in Bowling Green. She was born May 14, 1912 in Rising
Sun to Willard and Ada (Day) Dalton. On Oct. 14, 1939
she married Charles E. Strawman in Risingsun, he died
on July 12, 1987.
She is survived by: a son, Dr. John W. Strawman
of Bowling Green; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by: two sisters,
Velma Rees and Lois Dalton; and two brothers, Rolland
and Hubert Dalton.
Mrs. Strawman taught music at Bettsville
and Fremont City Schools and later at Lowell Jr. High
School in Fostoria for many years. A member of King's
Daughters and the Wesley United Methodist Church of Fostoria.

Deb Smith, 42, of 1004 N. Union St., Fostoria, died at
6:05 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2000 in her home. She was
born Oct. 22, 1957 to John A. and Elaine (Arheit) Ziegler,
both deceased. On Nov. 1, 1980 she married Greg G. Smith
in the 1st United Church of Christ, Sandusky, he survives
in Fostoria.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tyler
and Hudson Smith ;and a daughter, Mattie Smith of Fostoria;
a sister, Jody Eschenauer of Sandusky; four nieces; three
nephews; and many friends.
Mrs. Smith was a kindergarten teacher
for 20 years in the Fostoria Community Schools, teaching
at Lowell, Longfellow, and most recently at Riley Elementary.
She is a 1976 graduate of Perkins High School, Sandusky
and a June 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University.
She was the 1996-1997 School Certified Employee of the
Year in Fostoria Community Schools, she served on the
Strategic Planning Committee for St. Wendelin Schools
and member of the following: St. Wendelin Catholic Church;
Ohio Education Association; OSU Alumni Association; and
Disney Magic Kingdom Club.
The Celebration of Life Mass will be held
at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 16 at St. Wendelin Catholic
Church, Fostoria.
There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Seeley was a homemaker. She also was
an active auxiliary police officer in Fostoria, retiring in
1990, and had been the manager of an apartment complex in
Weston.
She was an active member of the SonLite Christian
Church, Weston, and had helped with the cleaning and maintenence

He was born March 16, 1927, in Springfield,
to Connie S. and Bertha Bernice (Young) Saunders. On Nov.
5, 1949, in Columbus, he married Dora M. Humbert, who survives
in Fostoria.

Saunders of Fostoria, William R. "Wilbur" Saunders of Great
Bend, Kan. and John C. Saunders of Westerville; a daughter,

A U.S. Army veteran, having served 1944-47
in the Philippines during World War II, he also was a member
of American Legion Post 73, VFW Post 421 and the United Sportsmen
Club, all of Fostoria.

E. and Janice (Waaland) Stahl, who survive in Fostoria.

Mr. Stahl was a 1983 graduate of Fostoria

Mr. Sharninghouse retired in 1988 from Cooper
Tire and Rubber Co., where he worked 39 years in truck tire
building, bladder curing and other areas.
He was a member of Central Church of Christ
and the AMVETS. He was a former officer and vice president
of United Rubber Workers Local 207. He was the first president
of the Millstream Area Credit Union.
He was a 1944 graduate of Liberty High School.

Hospital. She was born Jan. 9, 1922, to Russell Edward and
Lillian Anita (Williams) Placke. On March 26, 1976, she
married Donald Seem. He survives.

Campbell of Shadyhook, Ky.; three stepsons, Randy Seem of
Georgia, Donald Seem Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., and Tom Seem
of Forest; a daughter, Norma Jean Wick of Botkins; five

Mrs. Seem was a 1940 graduate of Bellefontaine
High School, attended Findlay College and was a member of
Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine. She worked as a therapist
in nursing homes.

He was born May 13, 1935 in Dunkirk to Mervin
and Grace (Meek) Spearman, and his mother survives in Findlay.
He married Shirley (Chain) Butler, and they divorced. He
then married Barbara A. Hoying on Aug. 6, 1976, and she
survives.
Other survivors include a son, James M.
of Arlington; three daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Christina G.)
Schlachter and Beth A. Spearman, both of Findlay; Mrs. Gary
(Edie U.) Powers, Fostoria; five grandchildren; and a sister,
Barbara Huntington, Findlay.
Mr. Spearman worked at the Land O Lakes
plant in Arlington. He was a retired track driver for Signal
Delivery and United Trucking Service, both in Findlay.
He was a member of Findlay Lodge 227 F&AM;
Findlay Commandery 49, Knights Templar; Findlay Chapter
58, Royal Arch Masons; Findlay Council 50, Royal and Select
Masons; Hancock County Scottish & York Rite Association;
Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo; Findlay Chapter 23, Order
of the Eastern Star; Zenobia Temple, Toledo; Findlay Shrine
Club; and Findlay Masonic Temple Association.
He also was a state representative, and
former regional director, for Retreads International Motorcycle
Club. He was a retired member of Teamster Local 20, Toledo;
and a member of American Motorcyclist Association; and Postmaster
Auxiliary, Ohio Branch.
He was a 1953 Van Buren High School graduate.

William H. Fostoria resident
William Hogan Stokes, 81, of West Ridge
Drive, Fostoria, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2000,
in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Trenton, N.J.,
to William Hale and Ellen (Hogan) Stokes. He married Marie
C. Schmitt on May 8, 1943, at Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Trenton, N.J.
Survivors include: his wife of Fostoria;
two sons, William H. Stokes of Avon and Rick Stokes of Bowling
Green; four daughters, Marie Hama of North Olmsted, Mrs.
Dexter (Eileen) Wilson of Hilliard, Mrs. Donald (Carol)
Pahl of Carey; Mrs. Jerry (Joan) Nelson of Fostoria; 12
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters,
Mary Hornyak of Morrisville, Pa., and Eleanor Dunn of Hopewell,
N.J.
Preceding him in death were three brothers
and a sister.
Mr. Stokes was a 1937 graduate of Morrisville
High School, Pa; a 1956 graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia,
Pa. earning a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering;
a U.S. Army Air Corp.; a World War II veteran serving as
First Lieutenant in the European Theater; one of few in
Seneca County who received the Liberty Medal from the French
Ministry of Defense awarded on June 10, 1998; retired in
1968 as a mechanical engineer from US Steel, Cleveland;
employed by Seneca Wire and Manufacturing, Fostoria, until
his retirement in 1990; a member of the St. Wendelin Catholic
Church, Fostoria Rotary Club, Elks Lodge #935, Fostoria,
Wire Association International, Society of Manufacturing
Engineers, and a former member of Hilltop Club, Fostoria.
Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday
with the Mass of Christian burial following at St. Wendelin
Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery
where military graveside honors will be conferred by United
Veterans of Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday
in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with a Christian
wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Thomas R. Smith, 47, of 947 N. Susan Drive,
Fostoria, died at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2000, in St.
Catherines Care Center, Findlay.
He was born Oct. 17, 1952, in Fostoria to
Fred Darwin and Lucille Freda (Brose) Smith. They survive
in Fostoria. He married Nancy Cramer and they were divorced.
Other survivors include: two daughters,
Mrs. Chad (Amber M.) Haller, and Mrs. Jason (Alysha R.)
Clauss, both of Tiffin; two granddaughters; two brothers,
Frederick W. and Donald E., both of Fostoria; three sisters,
Paula L. Moehling and Mrs. Stephen (Christina M.) Zoeller
of New Riegel, and Mrs. Ronald (Jean I.) Tiell of Fostoria;
and paternal grandmother, Louisa B. Wyatt of Jacksonville,
Ill.
He was a 1971 graduate of St. Wendelin High
School; a U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam War; a "setup
man" for Continental Hose, Upper Sandusky; a member of St.
Wendelin Catholic Church and Seneca County Pheasants Forever.
The rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m.
today at the St. Wendelin Church followed by the Christian
burial Mass at 1 p.m. There will be military graveside honors
by United Veterans of Fostoria in St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today at
the church.

Darlene E. Tropical Haven co-owner
Darlene E. Shumaker, 59, of 4322 SR 67, Sycamore,
died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, in the Medical
College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
She was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Lucas County,
to the late Ralph and Mayme (Bartlett) Bordner. On Aug.
13, 1977, in Findlay, she married Gary L.Shumaker, who survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters,
Mrs. Doug (Barb) DeTray of Tiffin, Mrs. Terry (Brenda) Shuff
of Sycamore and Mrs. Charles (Betty) Feasel of Fostoria;
two sons, Donald Romig of Tiffin and David Romig of Upper
Sandusky; three brothers and a sister; 18 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Bonnie Romig, and four brothers
also are deceased.
Mrs. Shumaker, the co-owner/operator of Tropical
Haven in Tiffin, also worked as a bartender and bar manager
at Gaietto Tavern in Sycamore and as a nurse's aide. She
was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
The Rev. Kelly Brown will be the officiant
at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried
Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the
funeral home.

James F. Retired owner of J&F Swinehart Co.
James F. Swinehart, 65, of North Union St.,
Fostoria, died at 2:34 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at
Hospice of North West Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born Jan.
19, 1935, in Van Bureno to Thomas and Ruth (Brickel) Swinehart.
They are deceased. On Feb. 14, 1953, he married Sylvia A.
Sylvester. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters,
Mrs. Lori Huffman of Fostoria and Mrs. Jamie Northrup of
Gibsonburg, a brother, William of Lima; four grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: a son, Joel
Eric Swinehart; a grandchild, Amy Ellington; two brothers,
T. Harold and George Swinehart; and a sister, R. Maxine
Pressler.
Mr. Swinehart was a 1953 graduate of Fostoria
High School. He retired in 1995 as owner and operator of
J.F. Swinehart Co. in Fostoria. He had been employed at
Fostoria Industries and Chrysler Corp. He was a member of:
Grace United Church of Christ; Fostoria Eagles Club; Fostoria
United Sportsman's Club and Ducks Unlimited; and was a local
sprint car racing fan.
The Rev. Lucinda Hunter will officiate the
1 p.m. Saturday service at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral
Home in Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery in
Fostoria.
Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 tonight
at the funeral home.

Charlotte Rose Registered nurse
Charlotte Rose Seifert, 62, died at 9:45
p.m. Friday, July 28, 2000, at her home at 2800 W. CR 6.
She was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Seneca County,
to the late F.L. and Esther (Hohman) Amlin. On Oct. 3, 1959,
in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Robert
Seifert, who survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs.
Paul (Elizabeth Ann) Gibson of Columbus; two sons, Joseph
Robert Seifert of Carey and Daniel D. Seifert of Lima; five
brothers, Eugene Amlin of Municie, Ind., Wayne Amlin of
Tiffin, Robert Amlin of Fostoria, John Amlin of Sycamore,
James Amlin, address unknown and George Amlin of West Chester,
Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Seifert, a registered nurse, worked
in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin's Obstetrics Department for
34 years.
She helped develop and taught childbirth
classes for 15 years and was presently working in the Seneca/Wyandot
County Prenatal Clinics.
A 1956 graduate of Calvert High School and
a 1959 graduate of St. Rita's School of Nursing, Lima, she
also was a certified childbirth educator and lactating consultant.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic
Church, Frenchtown and the Professional Nurses Club.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday
in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with the Rev. Conrad Sutter
as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Monday in the
Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will
be at 8:45 p.m.

Violet M. Fostoria homemaker
Violet M. Sheibley, 92, of Kennedy Lane,
Fostoria, died at 9:44 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at
Toledo Hospital.
Mrs. Sheibley was born Aug. 15, 1908, in
Fostoria to Frederick and Alice (Miller) Stoudinger. She
married Gerald A. Sheibley June 30, 1934, in Fostoria and
he died Jan. 17, 1991.
Survivors include: a son, Dean Sheibley
of Sandusky; two daughters, Carol A. Sheibley of Gowanda,
N.Y., and Jeannine E. Sheibley of Fostoria; two grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a brother,
William Stoudinger, and a sister, Winifred Adler.
She was a 1926 graduate of Fostoria High
